FOURTEEN | JAMAR

“Look, you lucky I agreed to meet with yo monkey ass at all.” I focused my eyes on my baby mama’s cousin for a second.

“Nigga! I swear I can’t stand yo mouthy ass.” She rolled her eyes as she pulled on my door handle.

“Fuck is you doing? You ain’t getting in my car, you said you needed to talk, lets go.” I nodded towards her.

“Jamar,” She stopped her feet and scowled at me. “Just open the door, I need to tell you something and?—”

“Nah, I’m cool, I got a girl, I ain’t fucking you.” I lit my blunt.

“Nigga! I don’t want yo little dick, I ain’t Eb. This conversation is about your brother.”

“Man don’t start with no fake pregnancy shit. Are you the reason they ain’t been cool lately?” I narrowed my eyes as I looked at her.

“What? I hadn’t even spoken to Kyrie until a few days ago, when we met up at a hotel.” She folded her arms.

“So, what’s up? What you wanted to tell me?”

“I told you we would talk in the car!”

“I went through his phone and his little girlfriend was asking him about some diamonds and apologizing for killing?—”

“Quasia, mind your business.” I cut her off.

“Mind my business? I am minding my fucking business. He called me, talking shit, drunk off his ass.” She scoffed.

“Going through my brother’s phone ain’t none of yo got damn business. It’s somebody for everybody, don’t fuck around and lose yo life chasing behind a nigga that don’t give a fuck about you.” I hoped in my car and pulled away from where she stood on the street.

“Hey, I was just about to call you.” Ebony smiled as she opened the door.

I noticed she was wearing a robe and the bonnet she normally rocked had been replaced with box braids twisted into a bun at the top of her head.

“What’s up?”

“So, I’m going out with my girls for a few hours, you mind staying with Gabriella?” Her eyes bounced over to me as she fanned the lash she was holding in her hand.

“Yea, that’s cool. Actually, I need to talk to you for a minute. I know I don’t have to tell you, but I wanted to give you the respect to know first. Fallen is pregnant.”

She stopped messing with the lash in her hand and her eyes bulged out of her head.

“What?”

“It wasn’t planned, but she’s pregnant and she’s going to be staying with me more so, she’ll be around our daughter. If you want to get to know her or whatever?—”

“No.” she shook her head quickly and went back to putting on her makeup.

“No what?”

“I don’t want to get to know her, I don’t want to be her friend or none of that. I’m good. I can’t keep sitting back waiting for you to see me. I’m ready to move on with my life, just don’t neglect my baby for hers.” She shrugged.

“Don’t do that shit man. I love my daughter and she is always gon’ be a big part of my life.”

“Whatever, I don’t even care no more, it’s like you’re constantly pushing me to accept this girl being in my daughter’s life. You don’t care how I feel?—”

“To be honest you’re right. I haven’t thought much about how you feel, you just had a baby and we ain’t always been on the best terms and shit. I’m sorry for that.” I told her.

She nodded slowly, “So, are y’all...together now or something?” “Yea, that’s my girl.”

“So, she’s having your baby and she’s your girl, but not me. You made it clear that having a baby with me was out of the question, but—you know what? I don’t give a fuck. I hope y’all have a big happy family.” She shooed me out of her way to get out of the bathroom.

I went to my daughter’s room and started packing her up to take her back to my house.

“What are you doing?” Ebony’s heels clacked against the floor as she walked into the room with me.

“Taking her with me to the crib, I ain’t about to sit around here while you partying.”

“You do it any other time, but whatever, give me my key back. You can start calling before you bring yo ass over here.” She rolled her eyes.

I took her key off my key ring and left it on Gabriella’s dresser when I left out the room with her in her car seat.

When I made it home I saw Kyrie’s car in the driveway.

“What the fuck you doing here?” I asked as I walked into the living room where he was stretched out.

“I live here nigga.” “Since when?” I laughed.

“Gimmie my niece.” He took her out my arms and sat back down.

The last conversation I had with Kyrie hadn’t been the best, but this was how shit went with us.

One minute we would be talking shit and the next we would be ready to go to war behind each other.

It didn’t matter that we didn’t share the same blood, he was my brother and I’d go to hell behind him.

I sat on the couch and watched him play with my daughter while she laughed and cooed with him.

“You and Blaine?—”

“I fucked up.” He cut me off.

“You fucked up how?” I frowned.

“I got fucked up?—”

“You fucked Quasia simple ass.” I cut him off.

“Fallen told you?” he frowned.

“Nah, Quasia told me, she called herself telling on you and Blaine.” I laughed.

“Big mouth ass hoe.” He mumbled as he adjusted Gabriella in his arms.

“What was you thinking? You know that girl want you and she gon’ tell anybody with ears that you want her too.”

“You right, but damn, man. Blaine called me while I was at the room and this goofy bitch answered the facetime. I knew I should have killed that hoe.”

“So just like that you done with Blaine?” I raised an eyebrow.

“What? Hell nah. I just...I don’t know.” He sighed.

“What? Little ass Blaine got yo big ass scared and running.” I laughed.

“You laughing and shit at me, but you need to be getting this little girl a damn bottle. I know you hear her little ass crying.” He frowned as he attempted to adjust her to silence her loud cries.

“Daddy coming baby girl. You need some experience any damn way it’s finna be a damn daycare round this motherfucka.” I shook my head.

“You knocked Fallen up? Cause that’s the only way...” his laughter stopped for a second as he looked at me. “Yo slick ass was gon’ get her by any means. Damn, congrats.” He laughed again.

“Yea, I might have to tie her ass down for the next nine months, but yea she a month late and shit.”

“What? She might not even be pregnant.”

“Shitting me, I never use condoms with Fallen.” I admitted.

“Damn no wonder shorty cranky, she about to have a sibling.” He looked down at my daughter for a second. “B gave me the diamonds Tank tried to steal. They in the safe.”

“Bet.” I nodded as I finished shaking my daughter’s bottle.

Our heads turned when we heard the front door open and close. I stood, grabbing my gun off the table before I headed towards the kitchen.

“Really?” Fallen rolled her eyes as she approached me.

“Hell yea, why you ain’t call before you came over here?”

“Oh, now I gotta call?” Her eyes turned to slits as she focused on me. “We beefing right now, shit I might be laid up?—”

“Laid up?” Her face scrunched up. “Yea right, you got a baby bottle in one hand and yo gun in the other. Yo daughter better be the only female you laid up with.” She attempted to walk around me, but I stopped her.

“Fallen—”

“Let me say something first, I love you and it scares the fuck out of me. I’m pregnant, got a test to prove it.”, She pulled a test from her back pocket and waved it in my face. “You have a brand-new baby and now, here I am with another one. Our shit is new and?—”

“And you scared. I heard you, but you ain’t got shit to be scared of. I’m here and I got you, I got us.” I pulled her towards me.

“Nigga, you got her damn bottle, I know you hear her hollering’ and shit.” Kyrie stomped into the kitchen holding Gabriella.

“Gimmie my baby.” I reached for her and he moved her out my grasp. “Nah, nigga give me her bottle, we chilling. What’s up Fallen.” He nodded.

“You know you need yo ass beat.” She shook her head at Kyrie.

“She at the crib?”

“Nope, she been working every night, she thinking about moving?—”

“Moving where? She ain’t going no fucking where and you can tell her I said that shit too.” He cut her off as he pushed the bottle into Gabriella’s mouth.

“You tell her.”

“I would if she would answer the fucking phone.”

“Well, whose fault is that?” she tossed back just before he made it out the kitchen. “You love a nigga?” I bit my bottom lip as I pulled her towards me.

“Don’t hurt me?—”

“Fallen, baby listen to me. I love you aight? And I’m not just saying that shit cause you said it first. I really love yo ass and I have the purest intentions for us.

You, my daughter and our baby, y’all my family, it’s us.

I’ma get on yo nerves and I’ma fuck up, but I ain’t gon’ put yo heart in jeopardy, you can trust me.

” I thumbed the tears running down her face.

“Okay.” She smiled.

“Just okay? Come on, shit I need to take advantage of this moment.” I laughed pulling her towards the stairs.

“Wait, what about Gabriella?”

“Kyrie got her, he good. We just upstairs, he’ll let me know if he needs me.” I insisted as I pulled her towards my bedroom.
