Chapter Seven

S prite slid the plate into the dishwasher, listening to the voices from the front room. She and Roam were getting married tomorrow. Although she loved the idea of Santa’s Slay MC, they’d opted to stay home because Liam had only flown in for five days. Christmas Day was his day three, and then in a couple more, he’d be gone. She was ecstatic he was walking her down the aisle and spending time with Blake, but she wasn’t missing any time with him.

The last months had flown since she’d come to Bluff Creek. They were finally in a rhythm with the kids but only because everyone helped. Six kids, with all but one under the age of five, made for a busy time.

Roam had made it a point of them having a date night at least once a month. They took turns planning, and it was one of the things she adored about him. He was all-in on them growing closer. That and the man was the best dad she could have asked for her kids.

A tug on her jeans had her drying her hands and picking up Georgia. Although she was close to all the kids, Georgia was one who needed a little extra cuddling sometimes. Sprite wondered if it was because her waste-of-space mother hadn’t been very demonstrative. There were many nights that Georgia, she, and Oakley cuddled on the couch and watched a movie or read books. Grant, Blake, and Casper sometimes joined them, but most times the boys were on the go until they dropped to sleep at night. Their littlest one, Matthew, usually was in her arms or Roam’s, depending on who was running after the other kids. Add in all the animals they had and sometimes Sprite wondered if she was part of a family or a zoo. But she wouldn’t change a thing. She adored her life.

Liam and Blake walked in. Blake kissed Liam on the cheek and then kissed Sprite. “I’m heading up to read and then go to sleep. I want to be perfect for the wedding,” Blake said.

Blake loved dressing up and was looking forward to her outfit tomorrow. Roam had even bought the girls the sweetest necklaces for the wedding. Sprite had bought the boys watches with compasses on them. They’d opened them, but she wouldn’t let the boys wear them until tomorrow. She didn’t trust them not to destroy them before the wedding.

“Night, Blake,” Liam said.

“So, does our menagerie have you ready to head for the hills yet?” Sprite asked. Liam had been with them twenty-four seven since he’d arrived.

Liam grinned. “Nope, but I probably will take a walk tonight. It’s dark and quiet. It’s been a long time since I’ve been able to walk without a flak jacket on and without having to stay alert for everything.”

Roam chuckled as he walked in. “You need to be a little alert, depending on which way you walk. There’s a couple of skunks on the property that I’ve seen that you don’t want to run into.”

Roam slid his arm around her and dropped a kiss on her forehead. This is what she’d been looking forward to—her man and brother getting to know each other and making it official with Roam.

“I think I can handle a skunk if needed. I’ll just run. Blake seems happy here. I don’t think I can ever thank you enough for giving her a home. I just know I’m where I’m supposed to be. I’ll serve until I no longer am able to.”

Sprite handed Georgia to Roam. She needed Liam to hear this. She grasped his hand and laid her other hand against his cheek.

“Blake is a part of our family, and I love her so much. There are no thanks needed. We owe you a thank you. You stand between us and those who would do us harm, all so that our babies can sleep safe in their beds each night. I would never ask you to give up your calling. Protecting people and fighting for our country is in your DNA. It’s such a part of you that I would never ask you to do that. You and those who serve are owed the greatest debt that we can never pay. Your service is a gift. Liam, you’re the hero who keeps us all safe,” Sprite said, staring into his eyes.

Liam nodded, then pulled Sprite in for a hug. He stepped back from her and sniffed.

“I’m heading for a walk. Thank you, Sprite. I love you, sis,” Liam said and walked out.

Sprite turned to Roam. “Do you think he understood how it’s not a sacrifice at all for us? In fact, our family wouldn’t be complete without her.”

Roam pulled her into his arm, and Sprite laid her head against his chest. Georgia had wiggled until Roam let her down. “I think he might, but I also think transitioning for a short five days to a non-combat situation is hard. Hopefully, the walk will do him good. It wouldn’t surprise me if he stays out all night to get a little time apart from our craziness,” Roam said, grinning at her.

“I love our craziness, and I can’t wait to make it official tomorrow,” Sprite said, leaning up to kiss his lips.

“Dad, Casper and Georgia won’t get out of in front of the TV,” Grant yelled.

Roam smiled against her lips, “Our craziness is needing our attention. How about you go have a relaxing bath, and I’ll get our brood rounded up and give them baths? Enjoy that new book you downloaded because once you’re mine officially and my parents have the kids for the night, you won’t be reading or sleeping. You’ll be writhing and moaning as I kiss, nip, and suck every single inch of you, from your lips to your sweet pussy. I’ll be making sure you can’t even remember your name. I plan on fucking you on every available surface until you can’t walk straight and you feel me inside you for days afterward. You’ll be coming so hard, you’ll see stars.”

A shiver went through Sprite. Her man could dirty talk with the best of them, painting a picture for her. “I’ll look forward to you making good on your promise.”
