6. Rikkart #3
“What?” Darius and Tav exclaimed, brows raised, eyes wide.
“Wait, this is the woman from the alley? Damn, now I’m even more pissed that I was passed out through the whole thing!” Koit said, leaning in to get a closer look.
I glanced over the information Darius had gathered and wasn’t surprised to see that she was a doctor.
An emergency doctor, at that—no wonder she’d seemed so in her element.
I kept reading till I got to her name—Vivianna Beck.
It fit her. She was soft, but I had seen the fire in her eyes when she got passionate.
I couldn’t let her father do this to her, and there was also no way in hell I was going to hand her over to Vadik.
“Back up and tell us the whole story,” Tav said, trying to connect the dots.
“I convinced Rik to go with me to the underground werewolf bar in London that you told me about, Darius. We kept getting a bad vibe from the place, and we both thought it was because of Rik, so he went back early. That’s when the Russian goon squad decided to make their move,” Koit said, frowning.
“I managed to kill one and hurt the other bad enough he’ll be limping for days.
The leader of the group stayed human, and they took off, leaving me to get blamed for the one left behind.
I ran and ended up in an alley where this lovely lady found me and saved my life.
Not that I remember a lick of it,” Koit shared.
“When I was on my way to find Koit, I wasn’t sure if I was going to get to him in time.
I could feel the life draining out of him.
Then suddenly, he started to bounce back.
That’s when I stumbled upon him—naked, on a blanket, and getting patched up by her,” I said, pointing at the picture.
“Guys, there is something different about her, even my wolf sensed it. I can’t explain it, but we can’t let her get taken to Russia. ”
“What do you mean?” Darius asked, leaning forward and placing his elbows on the desk.
“I tested her. She was so confident in working on Koit that I thought maybe she had a werewolf sibling or family member. When I pushed her the first time, she reacted like any other human. Then she got mad at Koit for not letting her take him to a hospital, and then me for not being there to have his back. She even started to boss me around, and the fear she had of me was gone. There was a presence in her… if she survives this, it could be a game changer,” I said, trying to make sure they understood what was at stake.
“Well, that changes everything,” Tav said, like we should all know what that means.
“Details, Tav, for those of us with a lower IQ,” Darius said, rolling his eyes.
“This is what we need to get the leadership to vote for rescuing her,” Tav explained, casually leaning a hip against Darius’s desk. “If we think that she’ll be a threat to us if she survives the shift, then we need to remove that possibility.”
“You sure it will be enough?” Koit asked, voicing what we were all thinking.
“Did you sense her having the potential of being a beta if she were to survive?” Tav asked, turning to me.
“Without a doubt. I even wondered if she couldn’t be an alpha,” I said, nodding my head.
Tav’s eyes widened as he sensed the truth of my words. I didn’t need to ask if he believed me—his senses did that for me.
“Fuck, now we really need to make sure she doesn’t get taken to Russia,” Darius said as he rapidly started typing on his computer.
“I’ll get all my contacts in the area to find out what they can and get eyes on her.
We need to have someone around in case he makes a move sooner than we think.
I’ll also make sure we know everything about her, even down to how many pee breaks she takes in a day.
There can’t be any surprises in this situation. ”
“That might be a little much. We just want to make sure she doesn’t disappear into a black van,” Tav said, shaking his head at the extremes that Darius tended to go to.
“Looks like her father tried to get her boss to fire her, but he rejected the offer.” Darius whistled after reading something.
“I like this guy—he brushed off fifty thousand pounds and a hospital wing named after him just to keep a good doc in his hospital. Still think knowing more about her is overkill? Who knows what other tricks her father has up his sleeve, let alone Vadik.”
“I agree it’s safe to say that her father is moving quickly,” I said, getting up from my seat. “You coming with us to tell leadership what’s happening?”
Darius looked up from the information pouring in on his screen. “Nope. You don’t need me to get this done—you have a living lie detector on your side.”
“Did you see that this chick has had a boxing gym membership for the past five years? Oh man, I can’t wait to meet her,” Koit said, looking over Darius’s shoulder.
Grinning, I followed Tav out and down to the leadership boardroom. Looks like the next few days were going to get interesting. Maybe I should come down out of the mountains more often.
