9. Vivianna #2
I must admit, this is kind of cool. At that thought, I reminded myself the situation that I was in right now. Focus. You’re locked in a cage underground, by a mad scientist, who apparently wanted you to get mauled by a crazy wolf.
Oh yeah, that crazy wolf is your supposed fiancé. In case you wanted to know. In my most humble opinion, I think we need to make better choices in the future about who we get married off to.
Oh, thank you so much for that. I hadn’t already come to that conclusion on my own. I’m so glad to have you rolling around in my brain for these wonderful insights.
Now who has the attitude?
My ears pricked at the sound of someone walking up to my cell, and I cracked an eye to see who it was.
Well, if it wasn’t dear old Dad come to lord over his daughter who was now mutated into a werewolf.
I waited for him to come closer to the cage and walk up next to where I was laying.
I could smell something on him; it had a metallic tang against my tongue.
It was unlike anything I had sensed before.
He’s scared of you. What you’re tasting is his fear. Smart man, if you ask me.
Why is he scared of me? Isn’t he a werewolf too?
Nope, he’s no wolf. He is totally human.
Wait, how does that work? Wouldn’t I have to have werewolf parents?
Once again, I’m you. Let’s think of me like your conjoined twin that no one can see. I know what you know and what a wolf instinctively knows. I’m not a magic genie.
Right, got it. So why do I have the sudden urge to bite him? Not that I’m opposed, since it would make him suffer. Actually, the more I think about it, the more it sounds like a great idea.
Oh, that’s your predatory instinct. I doubt he has the strength to live through the transition, so biting him would most likely kill him. I’m game for it if you are.
Look at us, already agreeing on things!
Just then, I felt my father reach out to touch me through the bars. Automatically I lashed out, but someone grabbed me by the scruff and dragged me away from him.
What the fuck, where did he come from?
Sorry, I was so focused on that bastard we call Father that I missed him. Damn fiancé is cramping our style. Let’s bite him instead.
Liking her train of thought, I twisted, latching onto the wrist holding me, and bit down hard.
I felt the flesh tear, the blood seep into my mouth, and bones beginning to crack.
I looked up at Vadik, meeting his eyes and letting him see my fury.
He never let his gaze waver even when I felt his wrist snap under my jaw.
The glee that I had from being able to inflict this pain washed through me.
I was powerful. I was a force to be reckoned with.
Then a searing pain shot through me, my ears registering the distinct sound of a taser. My body went stiff as the electric current took all control away from me. Vadik let me go, dropping me back to the dirt as I twitched from residual shocks.
“Dr. Faulk, I would say that your experiment was more than successful. I’ve never seen someone so harmonious with their wolf so soon after their first shift,” Vadik said, addressing the man behind him. He must’ve been the one who tasered me, the bastard.
He was next on my growing list of who to maul to death.
“I couldn’t agree more. Her transition, though, was one of the roughest we’ve seen. Thankfully the end result is beyond anything I’d hoped for,” Dr. Faulk said, sounding like a giddy child. “Are you pleased, Alpha?”
“She’s pure werewolf on top of being an alpha, just as you promised,” Vadik said, giving me what I now knew was a true wolfish smile. “Now, beating the dominance out of her will be the fun part.”
Oh god, please tell me he’s joking!
Vadik grabbed the taser from Dr. Faulk and started walking towards me.
Um, I don’t think so… time to see if five years of boxing is going to do us any good.
I tried to roll out of his way, but my body was still slow to respond from the pain it had just gone through. My ears registered the ticking sound of the taser before I felt the pain and my body locked up. I tried to get my body to do anything, but I was stuck as long as the taser was going.
“I’m going to need you to change back into your human skin, little wolf,” Vadik said from behind me, releasing me from the taser’s current.
I rolled my head over and glared at him. I tried to yell at him, but all that came out was a bark. Frustrated, I kept barking at him, scrabbling to my feet and feeling the fur on my back rise in anger.
“Little wolf, no is not an answer that I am going to take from you. If you’re not going to switch back of your own free will, then I’ll have to get your body to protect itself,” he explained before he kicked me in the side, lighting-fast, knocking me into the dirt-covered ground once again.
After being tasered more times than I could count, my body finally shifted back to human. I curled up into a little ball, trying to shield myself from the assault that Vadik was raining down on my body.
“Stop, Vadik. If you continue to damage her, she won’t be fit to carry anyone’s children, let alone yours,” Dr. Faulk said, coming to my rescue.
Vadik frowned and stormed out of the cell, yelling something to Dr. Faulk in Russian and disappearing down the hallway.
“Now, my child, I’m going to give you something that will help make you calmer. It isn’t wise to make Vadik so mad; I can’t keep you safe if you do that,” Dr. Faulk said, rubbing my back gently.
Before I could act, I felt the sting of a needle entering my arm and rush of liquid being pumped into my body.
“What did you give me?” I asked, looking up at him with pleading eyes.
“It’s my own creation; it’s meant to help speed up your healing process. I can’t have you too damaged if you’re going to be the mother of those that save us all,” Dr. Faulk said with a gentle smile.
I don’t know why he was being so kind to me, but he still freaked me the fuck out.
There was something about this doctor that I sensed was amiss.
When he left, I felt my eyes begin to close as a wave of exhaustion took over my body.
What worried me even more was that it had silenced the voice of my wolf as I called out for her.
I tried to fight it, but I wasn’t strong enough alone.
