Chapter Seventeen
Roxanne got held up at a dinner meeting. She should’ve known Melody’s invitation to discuss the final details of the wedding at a fancy restaurant would be a four-hour event. It only ended because the staff respectfully informed them the place was closing. So embarrassing.
She’d texted Jonah that she’d be late. It was after ten when she finally arrived. Two days without seeing him was too long. She understood his reasoning. Between his construction project and his special order, he was pressed for time.
Jonah insisted she park in the driveway, but she noticed the lights on Cord’s car when she attempted to pull in. She switched directions, parked on the street, and walked up the driveway. She rounded the house just as Holden and Cord came out the back door.
“Hey, Rox.” Holden waved.
“Hi, guys.” She glanced back at Cord’s car, realizing for the first time that it was running but no one was inside. “You two going out?”
“Mid-terms,” Cord grumbled.
Mid-terms at ten o’clock at night? She was missing something.
“Yeah, how cool is it that we have them at the same time.”
“Real fucking cool, Hold.” Cord’s voice was laced in sarcasm as he rolled his eyes.
“Wait.” Roxanne watched them walk to the car and spin around. “If you have midterms, shouldn’t you be studying?”
“Yeah, but not without snacks,” Holden said.
She pointed to the house. “You don’t have snacks at home?”
The brothers shared a look, amused by her question.
“Not tacos. But don’t worry, Mom. We cleared it with Dad, and he said it’s okay.” Cord shook his head.
Roxanne narrowed her gaze and slowly drew up her hand and lifted her middle finger.
Holden burst out laughing as he got in the passenger seat, and she noticed a small smile from Cord.
Questioning the boys, who by all accounts were adults, not to mention not her responsibility, came off a little parental.
Though, neither one seemed to mind. They found it entertaining, giving her the same reaction she’d given her own father plenty of times since she became an adult.
They started to reverse, and Cord rolled down his window.
“The door’s unlocked and Jonah’s upstairs.” Cord smirked. “We’ll only be gone thirty minutes, so use your time wisely.”
That little shit! Before she could give him a scathing remark, his window was up and he was halfway down the driveway.
Roxanne walked inside, hooking her pocketbook on the back of the kitchen chair and taking off her jacket. Aside from the small lamp in the corner of the living room, it was dark throughout the house. She grasped the banister and made her way upstairs.
She walked to the end of the hall, passing the boys' rooms. Their doors were open, the lights were on and computers set up at their desks. It was an obvious sign they hadn’t been bullshitting about the exams. She walked to the end of the hall and stopped in the doorway of Jonah’s room.
He was at his dresser with his back to her, dressed in only a towel.
Perfect timing.
Just seeing him gave her an adrenaline rush. Her gaze traveled over his shoulders and down his back. His muscles were defined and pronounced. It was strange. Since they’d been together, he'd never mentioned working out or going to the gym. Whatever he was doing? It’s working.
“Surprise!”
Jonah didn’t flinch, and he slowly turned. “No, it’s not. I heard you coming up the stairs.”
She sauntered into the room, eyeing his bed. “Well, you can’t deny it’s perfect timing. According to your brothers, they’ll be back in thirty minutes.”
Jonah’s gaze darkened, watching her as she lifted her dress off and tossed it across the room. “Can you make that work?”
“Yeah,” he growled and stalked forward, grabbing her waist and pulling her against his chest.
She wrapped her hands around his shoulders, his skin still moist from his shower. She would retract her statement about perfect timing. It hadn’t been. She would’ve loved to have shown up while he was still in the shower and joined him under the hot water. She made a mental note for the future.
His warm breath filtered past her lips as he stroked her tongue. The man could kiss. Roxanne was almost addicted. His hand spread over her back, and within seconds, the straps of her bra fell down her arms, and she wiggled out of it. Jonah wasn’t wasting any time.
“I missed you,” he whispered against her lips, sending a tremble over her skin.
The feeling was mutual. It was on the tip of her tongue to remind him that going two days without seeing each other was his idea, not hers. But they were pressed for time. She’d save it for later.
Roxanne slid her hands down his chest, unraveling the cotton towel from his waist, dropping it onto the floor.
She caressed her palm over his cock, getting the reaction she wanted.
Jonah drove his hand into her hair, tugging sharply and released a guttural groan.
Time was of the essence, but that didn’t mean she couldn’t tease.
She wrapped her hand over his length, stroking slowly.
His chest rumbled, vibrating against her bare breasts. His hand lay flat on her stomach, slowly dipping under her panties. Roxanne deepened the kiss, lowering her free hand to his ass. This man’s body was a work of art and utter perfection.
She gasped against his mouth when he slid his finger inside her while his thumb strummed her clit. She dropped her face to his chest, gasping for breath. Her nails dug into his ass without an ounce of control. Her body was a live wire about to combust.
“Fuck me,” she whispered.
His hand slipped from her pussy, and she moaned.
Jonah looped his arm around her waist, lifting her until they reached the edge of the bed, and lowered her down.
His body came over hers, and he stretched out his arm, reaching for his nightstand drawer.
Condoms. They’d been careful, using one every time.
Though there were a few times they’d become lost in the moment and it’d come close.
All credit went to Jonah for stopping before he went raw.
Roxanne had been on birth control for years, but they hadn’t had a formal conversation yet.
It seemed they were both on the same page. Kids were great, but not now.
Jonah rolled onto his back. He ripped the corner of the wrapper with his mouth and slid on the condom.
He arched his back and turned slightly, but she had other ideas.
They’d tried nearly every position, but she wanted a repeat of her favorite.
Roxanne slid her hands over his chest, forcing him down on the mattress.
The corner of his mouth curled. Obviously, he enjoyed this one too.
She climbed onto his lap, straddling him.
His hands spread out over her thighs, sliding up her stomach to her breasts. The pads of his fingers moved over her nipples as she sat down over his cock. Even with a time crunch, she would not rush it. She pressed her hands to his chest and rode him, feeling Jonah everywhere.
Sex with him was on the next level. Maybe it was their chemistry and attraction. But Roxanne felt something deeper with him. A true connection. Their relationship was still new by most standards, but she couldn’t deny what she felt.
I love him.
His hand caressed over her collarbone, and around her neck. He pulled her closer for a kiss. His tongue slipped past her lips, tangling with hers. She moaned and swiveled her hips. She thought she was in charge being on top, but he’d taken over, pounding inside her.
Her heavy pants echoed through the room, intensifying with her need to come. She was so close.
“Jonah, please.”
He tightened his hold, slamming harder inside her. The pads of his fingers dug into her skin and he deepened their kiss. It was frantic, uncontrolled, lacking the usual finesse.
It was fucking amazing.
She rocked her hips against his until she ripped her mouth away and collapsed against his chest courtesy of her orgasm.
They lay locked together until the call of nature set in, and he slowly rolled her onto her back.
She snuggled into the blankets and pillow, watching Jonah get up and leave for the bathroom.
He’d better hurry if he didn’t want to get caught naked in the hallway.
It’d leave nothing to Holden’s imagination if he got sight of that.
Roxanne covered her yawn and felt her lids get heavy. As much as she would’ve liked to stay up, exhaustion was setting in, and she closed her eyes. The mattress shifted, and she felt his hand wrap over her stomach.
Jonah tugged at her waist, and she turned on her side. His chest brushed against her back as they settled in for the night.
Perfect!
****
Jonah stretched his back, feeling the weight on his chest. Her warmth was a dead giveaway.
Roxanne was sprawled over his body. Just where I want her.
He was usually a side sleeper unless she was in his bed, which had been most nights recently.
He wove his fingers through her hair, brushing the dark strands away from her face.
She hadn’t even moved. They’d both been exhausted when they passed out hours ago.
He’d felt off when she'd shown up. Jonah had purposely taken a few days away from her to roll everything over in his mind. Knowing she’d gone to her brothers about Rueben Pryor had set him on edge.
Of course, being without her for two days only solidified how hard it would be to lose her.
He had no intention of bringing up the past again.
He hoped that if he ignored it, she might let it go.
And at least for the night, Roxanne did.
