Chapter Six Zoe

Our airplane ride to Vegas leaves Finn a lot of time to explain the nature of his world to me.

Turns out that Light and Dark Fae, also known as Seelie and Unseelie, are a lot like angels and fallen angels.

I still don’t get why so many of them are here, but Finn tells me it’s because this world is gray.

Seelie, those with strands of Dark mixed in with all their Light, come here to either reform themselves under the harsh conditions or this world, or to help move this world further into the Light when it lists too far into Dark territory.

The unseelie come here when a streak of Light is found inside them.

The decision is made to give them a chance to better themselves, but their presence is heavily regulated because, yeah, they’re Dark.

I guess I know all about that, given what I went through with my employers. No wonder Mr. Parks made me feel so squirmy. He’s Dark Fae.

The highlight of the plane trip, though, is when Finn meets me in the restroom.

Sneaking in behind me, into a space so small that he’s the only one who can stand, he lifts me onto the edge of the sink and holds me tight by sheathing his dick inside me.

He’s so strong that I don’t fear he’ll drop me.

Right there, we orgasm hot and fast, together, our lips merged so that we swallow each other’s cry.

It’s only as I slide down the front of him, while he’s zipping up his jeans and I’m trying not to leak onto the floor from under my peasant skirt, which I wear without underwear, that I realize we’re not using any protection.

As if he understands what I’m thinking, Finn’s hand comes to rest across my middle. “Would it bother you?”

“No. You?”

He shakes his head. “I can’t tell you how much I want a baby with you, Zoe.

I’m sorry I didn’t think of protection. So much was going on.

I don’t carry diseases, and I can tell you that you aren’t at a fertile part of your cycle, if it helps.

Fae sense these things. Anyway, I don’t want to force you into... ”

“Stop.” I cover his mouth with my hand. “I’m a big girl. And honestly? If I get pregnant, I’m going to be really, really happy. And if I don’t, well, we could always officially start trying?”

He kisses me again, and by the time the flight attendant knocks on the door to tell me to take my seat for landing, hopefully not realizing that Finn is in the cabin with me, I’ve come two more times.

A girl could certainly get used to orgasms.

We rush from the airport to the Elvis chapel, which is just as cheesy as I thought it would be. I kind of love it.

“You’re sure,” he whispers, kissing the top of my head. “This isn’t what I envisioned.”

“Does it matter?” I look up to test his expression.

His nose wrinkles as he gazes around, but when he meets my eyes, he suddenly smiles. “Nothing matters but you. From the moment I met you, Zoe, you’ve been the only important thing in my world. I’m giving up my realm and my future for you—gladly.”

I turn in his arms and lay my head against his chest. He’s so solid, so secure.

And now I understand why he always seems to shed light.

“And that’s what you are to me, too. I spent a year missing you like you were my soul and I was nothing but an empty container, a void.

I’m so glad I survived so I could be filled by you again.

I can’t imagine going back to living without you. ”

“If I have anything to say about it, you’ll never be without me again.”

“Forest-Buckland? You’re up.” The nice woman in the flowered hat waves us up to an altar constructed of guitars. But it doesn’t matter. After this, we’ll check into a hotel and get back to what does matter: us.

“Nervous?” Finn whispers as we approach the “minister.” I’m sure the guy received his license by mail. He’s dressed as Elvis, which I guess makes sense. To someone. Us, apparently, since we’re here.

I squeeze his hand. “Not in the least.” And that’s true. No connection to him could ever worry me, only the lack of one.

He sighs, looking pleased. I don’t think he’s quite forgiven himself yet for his actions with Seraphina, but I have. I know the man I’m marrying by the guilt he carries, and I think I love him all the more for it.

The vows are simple. We look into each other’s eyes as we say them, and when he leans in to kiss me, it’s like the entire planet shifts under my feet.

“Forever,” he says.

And it’s only as we’re checking into the miraculous hotel that I wonder... is forever a term of art or something more real?

I’ve got a lot to learn about the Light Fae.

After. We have a year of lost love-making to make up for first. Best to get started.
