1. When life hands you lemons…
When life hands you lemons…
I fucking hate applying lipstick.
Makeup isn’t my thing most of the time, but I decided to fix my face tonight before I go out. I’m pretty sure the outfit I picked out is borderline skanky, but whatever. It still fits, and I’ll take that as a win considering I bought it a year or two ago and tried it on but never actually wore it.
I’m not one for tooting my own horn, but I look fucking amazing right now.
One last thing to do and it’s on. That is after I find those bright red wedge shoes I have hidden at the back of my closet. I really wish Tia was here already so she could help me find them. She regularly reorganizes my closet and if anyone knows where they are, its her.
Just seconds after the thought crosses my mind, my phone starts to ring. No surprise that it’s Tia.
“I could really use your fucking help right now, bitch. How close are you?” I answer, getting straight to the point as always when I’m talking to her.
“Girl…have you checked your messages yet? I sent you a link,” she replies.
“I’ve been getting ready. I haven’t checked my phone in a while.” I lower the phone and put it on speaker while I scroll to our message thread.
Clicking on the link, it brings me to a social media group page. I double glance when I see that the group’s name is “Are we dating the same guy-Wisconsin”. She’s sent me these links before and usually it’s something hilarious that feeds our daily drama fix.
At least, that’s usually the way it goes.
In front of me is a picture of my boyfriend.
“What the fuck is this?” I grit my teeth as I start to scan through the post.
“It looks legit to me, Millie.”
I stay dead silent as I continue down the post, tears falling from my eyes as I re-read one section in particular.
“I know your name is Millie, and I just want you to know that I’m not making this post to piss you off or to ruin you. I just think you need to know, and maybe we can ruin him together?”
“I-I don’t even know what to say right now,” I struggle to breathe out.
“Millie, I’m so sorry.”
“Can you do me a favor?”
“Anything for you. What do you need? Candy? Chocolate?”
“No,” I manage to lightly chuckle. “Can you drive me to his house?”
“Isn’t he away this weekend?” she asks, confused.
“Yeah. He is. That’s why I wanna stop by. We need some poster board and a permanent marker. Hell, maybe I should just buy some balloons and go all out.”
“I’m so confused right now,” Tia half laughs.
“I just wanna leave him a little welcome home message. I feel like his house could use a little re-arranging too.”
“You’re a badass bitch, you know that, right? A little unhinged… I’ll be there in five.”
“I love you. See you in a few minutes.”
I end the call and toss my phone onto the bed. I’m not even sure what I’ll end up doing when I get there and I’ll probably chicken out at the last minute, but right now, I feel like I’m handling it the way I’m supposed to.
A few minutes later, I hear Tia pull in and honk, so I grab my handbag and phone off the bed and make my way outside.
“You ready to do this shit? Don’t you fucking back out now,” Tia says as I hop into her car.
“I haven’t second guessed it yet. Let’s fucking get there.”
“That’s my girl! Fuck yeah, lets fucking go!” she shrieks and I roll my eyes at her.
In the matter of a few loud revenge songs sung at the top of our lungs, we finally pull into the parking lot at Jason’s apartment complex. I know where he keeps the spare key; it’s not out of the ordinary for me to let myself into his place.
“Wanna come in with me?” I ask.
“Should I? How crazy do you plan on going? Should I be concerned?”
“Just come with me. Jesus,” I sigh.
“Fine, but behave. I can’t go to jail.”
We both get out of the car and head up to the third floor, casually snatching the key from the fake rock on his balcony. “You ready?” I ask before unlocking the door and pushing it open.
“We forgot to grab the poster board and marker!” Tia hollers as I close the door behind us.
“He has printer paper. Pretty sure I can find a marker around here somewhere…” I say as I head into his office and grab a stack of printer paper, tape and a black marker.
As soon as I set the paper down on the desk, a creak in the floor stops me dead in my tracks and I hold my breath, waiting for the next noise.
“Is there someone here?” Tia whispers, standing just as still as me.
“Not that I know of. Fuck.” As soon as the words leave my lips, we hear heavy footsteps on the stairs just outside the room.
“Fuck. What do we do?” I whimper.
“Who the fuck is in here?” we hear a deep, masculine voice say before a familiar face appears in the doorway. It’s… Harley, Jason’s dad.
“Uh—hi. It’s just me. Sorry, I didn’t know anyone would be here.” I fake a laugh which comes out sounding like I’m guilty of something.
“Oh. You’re…Millie, right?” he asks, somehow believing my innocence.
“Yeah. Millie. That’s me. I’m just, uh—” I stop mid-sentence due to my inability to push any more lies out of my mouth.
“You look nervous. Are you nervous, Millie?” he asks, catching me off guard completely.
My heart starts to pound through my chest and I find myself holding my breath as my face goes flush. It’s like all of the blood in my body has rushed straight to my head and rendered me unable to function. “I’m not…nervous.”
“Yeah? Then why are you sweating?”
There’s no use in lying at this point. I’ll just come clean and add this to my revenge plot. I’m pretty sure the silver fox would appreciate knowing his son is a lying cheater. Either that, or I’ll soon find out how big of a piece of shit he is.
“Fine. I actually came here to leave a little message for your son. Did you know that he is a cheater?” I blurt out, watching his facial expression change in an instant.
“Is that so?” His tone changes too. “I need the details, Millie.”
God, does he always sound so fucking hot? I met him once briefly and I don’t remember him…like this. “I have a link,” I say as I take my phone out of my pocket.
I open the post, handing him my phone. As soon as he finishes looking it over, he stands there staring at it for a moment before slowly handing it back to me. “I didn’t raise him like this. I’ll call him.”
“No! Can I just finish what I was doing?” I drop my phone onto the desk and start spreading the papers out to write on them.
“I’d rather you didn’t. I have to stay here for the weekend. I really don’t want to stare at that the whole time,” he chuckles, leaning against the door frame.
“You’re really fucking with my plans, you know,” I laugh.
“Can I ask why you’re dressed like that?” He smirks, looking me up and down, sending chills down my spine in an instant.
I nervously spin the ring on my finger, biting down on my lower lip as I look down at my body. “We’re going out tonight.”
“Oh? Where to?” he asks.
“Uh—a club.”
“Does the club have a name?”
Why the fuck is my clit throbbing at every word this man says? What is wrong with me?
“XS!” Tia pipes up and says. I almost forgot she was standing right behind me.
“Really? Why there?”
“The drinks are cheap and the music is loud…why else would we want to go?” I snap, only realizing how bitchy it sounded after the fact.
“I don’t think you should go there.”
I scrunch my face in disbelief. Who does this man think he is?
“Well, lucky for me, that’s my decision. Thanks for the input though, sir,” I fire back with bite.
“Jason didn’t tell me how mouthy his girlfriend was. I just don’t think a club like that is safe for you two,” he says, crossing his arms over his chest.
Fuck me. He has massive arms. I need to get the fuck out of here.
“Look, I’m sorry that I disturbed you. I’ll just be on my way.” I start to walk toward the door, but he doesn’t budge.
“I’ll take you two, so you have someone looking out for you.”
“No fucking thank you. We don’t need a babysitter. What the hell, dude?” Tia scoffs, clearly getting as annoyed with the situation as I am.
“You can go. She’s not going anywhere,” he says. I don’t know whether he’s actually being protective or just creepily overbearing. Either way, my clit is throbbing again and all I can think about is having his hand wrapped around my throat.
“Are you fucking kidding me? What is your issue?” I holler, motioning for him to get out of our way.
Finally he steps aside, and I walk out of the room first, reaching back to snag the front of Tia’s sweater.
I avoid all eye contact with him and head straight for the door.
Once we get to Tia’s car and hop in, we both start laughing hysterically.
Partially because our nerves are shot now and because his cockiness was definitely laughable.
“Can you believe that guy?” Tia asks.
“Let’s get out of here before he decides to follow us or some shit.” As soon as the words leave her lips, I just so happen to look up and see Harley walking down the stairs toward the parking lot.
“Fuck. Looks like we might have company…” I sigh, rolling my eyes as we back out of the parking lot and speed down the road, taking a hard left and then a hard right to knock him off track.
“I think we’re good now,” I assure Tia, taking a glance at the road behind us in the mirror.
“Christ. He’s nuts.” She shakes her head.
“Should we go somewhere else so he can’t find us?” I ask, even though the chase is a little exciting. I won’t tell Tia that though, she already thinks I’m nuts.
“Already thought of it. I don’t have the patience for that drama tonight,” she laughs.
A few minutes later, we pull into a club parking lot and hop out of the car, both of us scanning the area just to be sure that he didn’t somehow find us.
“Shots first? We can just Uber home,” Tia asks as we walk toward the guys checking ID’s at the door.
“Doubles maybe?” I laugh, handing my ID to one of the guys.
He nods at us and allows us through and in no time, our bodies are vibrating from the loud bass thumping through the entire room. It’s almost too loud, but I honestly miss this.
We get to the bar and order two tequila shots, both choking them back while being reminded that it’s been a long time since either of us have consumed hard liquor.
“Holy shit. Maybe mixed drinks instead? That was a little much,” Tia snickers as she slams her empty shot glass down onto the counter.
“Agreed. Not a fan.” I nod, setting mine down beside hers.
One thing’s for sure…
I don’t miss the bitter taste of alcohol.
