Selectman Rollins, accompanied by Bonnie Pratchett, visited the Harlow Homestead to offer assistance on August 4 and 5 but was not allowed inside. Family succumbed not long after.

Harmony Milton, 15, claims to have met up with Mercy Harlow on August 1, shortly after sunrise, to gather flowers and gossip. She left Mercy by a well at the center of the woods near the Harlow Homestead.

This is the last time Mercy Harlow is seen until August 2, when Peter Milton claims to have spied her lumbering across the fields toward her house “like a horse with a broken leg.”
