Chapter 37
Babymoon – an excuse for a vacation
Aurora
J ett shakes my shoulder to wake me and I growl. “Touch me again and I’m removing your finger.”
“I guess you won’t get your surprise then.”
I roll away from him. “I’ll get it when I wake up.”
“Too bad. The plane will be gone by then.”
I open one eye and glance at him over my shoulder. “Plane?”
He bounces on his toes. “Who’s ready for a babymoon?”
I groan and cover my face with a pillow. “I don’t have time for a babymoon. I have two new bands to manage. And a little baby who doesn’t sleep.”
Jett snatches the pillow. “Leia is perfectly capable of holding down the fort for a week. And I bet Star will sleep better after a full day of…”
I narrow my eyes on him. “A full day of what?”
He zips his lips. “Can’t tell you. It’s a surprise.”
I moan. Jett loves to give me surprises. Anything from breakfast in bed to a brand new office.
“You don’t have to spend money on me all the time. I love you, drummer boy, not your money.”
“But it’s fun.”
I shouldn’t complain. At least he doesn’t feel the need to jump out of perfectly good airplanes anymore.
I throw my feet over the side of the bed. “Okay. How many days’ worth of clothes should I pack? And what will the weather be like?”
“Nah-ah.” He wags his finger at me. “No clues for you.”
I fist my hands on my hips. “I need to know what to pack.”
He tweaks my nose. “Good thing you’re already packed.”
“Please tell me you didn’t pack for me. I’d like to have something besides sexy lingerie to wear.”
Buying lingerie is one of Jett’s favorite surprises for me. The surprise is really for him but I’m fine with it since I never end up unsatisfied. He knows how to take care of me.
He chuckles. “Leia packed your bags.”
“Phew.”
“Chop. Chop.” He claps his hands. “We’ve got a plane waiting for us.”
We land several hours later.
“Where are we?” I ask since the pilot didn’t announce our location.
“It’s a surprise,” Jett sings as he gathers Star into his arms.
I sigh. There is nothing sexier than a rockstar covered in tattoos cradling a tiny baby girl to his chest. I’ll give him a dozen children, if he lets me. Only to witness the soft look on his face as he trails his finger down Star’s nose.
My stomach growls. “Fine. But this surprise better include food. I’m starving.”
“Don’t you worry. I’ve got you covered.”
The baggage is loaded in an SUV and we’re off. We drive an hour before we cross a bridge onto a small island.
“Smuggler’s Hideaway,” I read as we drive onto the island. “I’ve never heard of this place before.”
“The island is known for hiding smugglers during prohibition. And now it’s a vacation destination.”
My stomach rumbles again. “As long as these smugglers have a restaurant, I’m happy.”
We arrive in a small town. It’s nearly as cute as Winter Falls with all the Mom and Pop stores lining the street. Except most of these stores are touristy. I spot a restaurant and point to it.
“There! Smuggler’s Cove. They’re really leaning into the smuggling angle.”
Jett parks on the street in front of the restaurant, and I jump out. Shouting on the sidewalk stops me before I have a chance to get Star out of the backseat.
“What is your problem?” A woman screeches. “Why won’t you leave me alone?”
A man steps closer to her. But she doesn’t back up. She holds her ground.
“I don’t have a problem. I want you.”
She throws her arms in the air. “Tell it to someone who will believe it.” She whirls around and marches away. The man can’t drag his eyes away from her.
Jett comes to stand next to me. I smile up at him. “I changed my mind. This is going to be fun.”
He wraps his arm around my shoulders. “Of course, it is. I’m here.”
“You’re annoying.”
“You love me.”
“I’m obviously crazy.”
“Crazy about me.”
I’m not arguing with him. I push up on my toes to reach his lips. The second his lips touch mine, I forget all about the couple arguing in the middle of the street and a baby who doesn’t want to sleep and work that never ends.
All I can think about is Jett and how good it feels to be in his arms, surrounded by his scent and his warmth. I never want to leave.
It took me a while, but I finally caught my rockstar.
