Epilogue – Isabella

The wind whips through my hair as we fly through the woods. We must be almost to Canada at this point.

We’re going too fast for my eyes to snag on anything long enough to truly see, but I can feel the dirt beneath Nick’s paws. Through his nose, I can scent the animals and leaves in the trees as we run through the forest.

Enjoying yourself up there, Mate? he taunts me telepathically.

We were delighted to find out that once we mated, we could communicate while Nick was in his werewolf form. Georgie and Dane were less thrilled. While they can’t hear me, they can hear Nick’s responses.

It means that we usually spend the full moon alone, but I’m not sure Georgie or Dane mind all that much anymore. Not with recent developments anyway.

Always, darling, I reply, digging my fingers deeper into his fur.

And I am. I got over my fear of falling off once I could feel everything Nick feels. I’ve never felt safer in my life than while on his back.

What are you thinking about? he asks, narrowly avoiding a terrified squirrel.

How you’re meeting my parents this weekend, but I would much rather stay in bed naked.

It took a while for my mother to even respond to my texts after our lunch, but despite all of that, she finally started responding.

And now they’ve come around enough that they’re willing to visit.

He barks a laugh. We still could. Your parents would probably get a little freaked out, though.

I roll my eyes and flick one of his ears, smiling all the same.

I’m nervous about them meeting, for sure. But I can handle it. I no longer need their approval or understanding—not when I have a family of my own. I have Nick, Georgie, Dane, their mates, and even some new friends I’ve gotten to know in the months I’ve lived here.

I love you, I finally tell him, just as we crest a small hill. Nick slows to a stop so we can absorb the cold forest at night—the promise of Winter.

I love you, too, Izzy.
