Chapter Seven
“Aurora, your mate is being mean to me. He didn’t let me have any fun. He took all of them out. And, now look at that.” Scepter pointed at the cleanliness of the kills. “He did it with the utmost care.”
“I am very thankful for his consideration. Next time, I’ll ask him to share his.
..kills with you.” Aurora snorted. “If my parents had continued to live, they’d have loved you both.
Oh Goddess, how the hell am I supposed to explain about my love life?
Like, hello, I’m dating the Mafia Vampire King. How do we even make that work?”
“Sssh, Vita Mea, we will make everything work together.”
“I think I should let the two of you have some privacy.” Scepter coughed into his hand.
He brushed her hair back from her face. “I love you. Everything will be fine. I need to finish with these males before I show you just how much.” He bent, caging her body in between his arms and the chair.
Scepter rolled his eyes and met the stare of the males still alive.
After a couple of minutes, Savage stood. “I’ll always think of you and your comfort, my love.”
“Want me to off these males, Scepter?” he asked.
A few rumbles met his words, but the shifters weren’t stupid enough to say anything.
“I promised a crazy Fey Queen I’d handle them with care, as she’s claimed shifters as her people.
I agreed, with the caveat that I’d ensure the ones I set free weren’t a danger to my people.
I believe you three are salvageable. Magnus and Sterling.
Because you two were good to my female’s little sister, you have been given a second chance.
Sadly, neither of you is fit to be the alpha.
Quinn, you’re a turned wolf with the aura of an alpha.
I don’t believe you want to be the leader of a pack, but you do appreciate the benefits of being a part of one.
Two packs have agreed to let the three of you join theirs on a trial basis.
Both are affiliated with Jenna, so you understand she will have the power to delete you with the snap of her tiny fingers.
” Savage snapped his fingers to show them how easy it would be to eliminate them.
Quinn raised his hand. “Are there humans among them? Are we expected to work or—”
“I don’t know what will happen once you become part of their pack.
The Mystic Wolves are in South Dakota, and the Iron Wolves.
..I’m not quite sure where they are. They’re both powerful packs with alphas I respect.
Um, I will warn you, so you don’t go in thinking shit will be easy with the Iron Wolves.
Once you are part of the pack, you’ll be associating with dragons and other shifter species.
The Mystic Wolves do as well, but I’m not as familiar with how much they are incorporated with other realms. So, choose,” he said. ”
Aurora stumbled to her feet. “Are you being for real right now?” she asked Savage, touching his arm.
“What do you mean?” Savage asked, looking down at the spot on his arm where she had touched.
Scepter could see the wheels turning in her head. Poor female, she’d been living on Earth, thinking only humans, shifters, and Fey were real.
“You said dragons and others? Have you seen a real freaking dragon?”
“I haven’t seen one myself, but when I spoke with the Fey, I caught a glimpse of a pink one in her mind when she threatened me. She’s the one who offered the two packs for these males I deemed worthy to live and said I needed to prepare them, so they didn’t shit themselves.”
“Oh my Goddess. My sister has seen dragons and more. I need to sit down.” Aurora fell back into Savage’s chair with a thunk.
“Is Starla okay?” Savage asked. His fingers wiped her cheeks like he’d done it a thousand times before.
“Yeah, she’s good.” Aurora sniffed.
Scepter cleared his throat. “I’ll let you handle this unless you need me to take them to their pack?”
A knock stopped his retreat. As if they’d summoned the crazy female, Jenna entered the office with a grin Scepter didn’t trust.
“Yoohoo, your fairy godmother is here. I know the head vamp guy gave you your choices. Also, congrats, you're still alive. So what’s it to be, my wolfies? Mystic or Iron? Choose quickly, I ain’t got all day.
I have two mates I needs to be home fucking and sucking.
It truly is a lot on a female’s plate, you know.
” Jenna tapped her wrist as if she had a watch.
“Female, don’t you think you’ve given a little TMI?” Savage shook his head.
“Oh, is Vita Mea like a sexually transmitted thing? I thought vampires couldn’t get them? No, I’m sure they can’t. I’m mated to two of them, silly vamp. Anyhoo, what’s it gonna be?” she asked, turning to look at the three shifters who were staring at her with equal parts fear and hope.
Scepter wanted to escape, but he also wanted to ask if Starla was okay, only because she was his Boss’s mate’s sister.
Aurora buried her face against Savage. Her shoulders shook as if she were trying to hide her laughter. Scepter rolled his eyes, unwilling to show the female he found her amusing.
“You two are cute together. Your sister will be very pleased.” Jenna raised her hands, miming the action of a camera taking a picture.
“What the fuck are you doing, female?” Savage asked, his voice a deep rumble.
Bright purple eyes widened. “I just took a mental snapshot for Starla. You’re lucky I didn’t make pew, pew signs.” Jenna winked.
“We’ve decided which pack we want to go to,” Quinn broke into the conversation.
Jenna clapped her hands. “That’s good to hear.
Which shall it be? I should let you know our Goddess isn’t intimidated by your messes.
She specializes in it. You know the addiction the three of you have fallen into with your old crew?
The one where you follow without thought?
Your new pack is nothing of the sort. Kellen Stiles is the alpha of the Iron Wolves.
He's an amazing bestie and an even more awesome alpha. He just doesn’t stand for idiots.
Niall is the alpha of the Mystic Wolves.
He’s lived through the loss of his first mate but was gifted a second mate who, in my opinion, is fantabulous.
While he might appear laidback, I assure you, he’ll whoop your wolf ass without blinking an eye, and then his beta, who happens to be his brother, will do it again because he will feel the need to remind you not to try him.
So, with that being said, which will it be?
Quinn looked over at Magnus and Sterling, then at Jenna. “The Iron Wolves, if they’ll have us.”
Aurora blinked back tears. Scepter liked the softness in her heart. Savage deserved a female who could soften his edges.
“Kellen and the others are prepared to welcome you. I’d say with open arms, but it’s not their way. I don’t think any of you would trust them if they did. They’re not sitting around polishin’ their halos, though. I mean, nobody could ever say my wolfies are angels, but they’re good beings.”
Quinn and the other two males nodded in agreement.
“When will I get to see my sister?” Aurora asked—a tremble in her voice.
“You can come with me if you’d like?”
Savage growled. His arm slid around her hips. “When will you return, Starla?” he asked.
“She’s only been gone a few minutes. I think I can handle a couple of days' separation.” Aurora swallowed.
“You’re not empty. You have me,” Savage said.
“You’re in my head,” Aurora breathed.
“Always.” Savage kissed her forehead.
“I’ll leave you two to settle yourselves to mating. Just remember, I’m only a thought away.” Jenna tapped her head. “All you need to do is give me a holler, and I’ll hear you. It might take me a wee bit to get to you, but I’ll do my best to do so in a timely fashion.”
“How do you recognize when one of your Fey is thinking or needing you? Do you just know, or is it by happenstance you hear them?” Savage asked.
“Luck has nothing to do with it, my friend. The Goddess has blessed us all with the ability to know certain things. For me, it’s as if I’ve left a door open, as I’ve currently done for Aurora.
That way, it’s easy for her to reach me.
I don’t leave it open forever or both ways.
Meaning, you can’t pop into my head, so don’t get any ideas. ” The Fey wagged her finger at Savage.
Her male lifted his hands. “Trust me, I have no wish to be inside your mind.”
“Rude, but it is all good. I gotta go. My mates are going a bit crazy, wondering where I’ve run off to.
We definitely don’t need two wild wolpires popping in here on a rampage because they’re horny.
Toodaloo,” Jenna said in a cheery tone, then she flashed away, before popping back to touch the three shifters. “Forgot these guys. My bad.”
Aurora laughed once, and then she couldn’t stop. She wrapped her arms around her middle and continued laughing until tears streamed down her cheeks. Savage’s hand patted her back as he chuckled with her.
“I don’t know if I like her, love her, fear her, or what,” she gasped.
“Probably a mix of all those things. She’s a bit unhinged, I think. I can see why it takes two males to handle all her...crazy.” Savage ran his hand down her back, stopping to cup her ass.
“She’s gorgeous. No, that is an understatement.” Aurora stood up, turning to face him.
He grunted. “She’s pretty, but I think you’re the most stunning creature I’ve ever laid eyes on.”
Aurora stepped closer to him. “I think you’re the crazy one.”
“Hmm, I disagree. So, would you like to go down to the club or—”
Aurora shook her head. “Where do you live?”
Savage blinked. “You mean when I’m not here?”
She nodded.
“I have a home not far from here. Many of my clan members also live on the property. Would you like to see it? If you don’t like something, you can change it, or we can buy new, rebuild it, or do whatever you’d like. As long as you’re with me.”
“I need my sister with us, too.”
Scepter clenched his teeth, knowing he’d have to get his own place when Starla returned.
“Of course. I would never ask you to leave her or go anywhere without her. Well, except on our honeymoon. I would think she’d be okay with us if we took a few days away to get acquainted.” Savage touched his female with so much longing.
“I think we can arrange it.”
“Scepter, you got this?” Savage looked over Aurora’s head.
“Get the fuck out of here, Boss. Your office already smells like the two of you. I suggest you go and make the rest of your property do the same,” Scepter said, trying to make his voice hold a cheerful tone.
Aurora smiled at Scepter. “What a fantastic suggestion.”
“Never underestimate the intuition of a woman. It’s their greatest weapon, my friend.” Savage and Scepter locked arms. A look passed between them, a result of years of experience.
“I love you. I care for my clan. There’s a difference, anima mea.”
Seeing the love and devotion their bond had already formed made his cold, dead heart ache. He’d never have that. Not with his bonded mate. She’d find someone else. A male her age, one like her. A shifter who could give her children—and a life.
He walked away from his best friend, turning to smoke instead of mist like the rest of his clan. The sulfuric aftermath of his departure was gone before anyone could realize he’d left.
