Chapter Nineteen – Jenna’s Lie #3

The sadness I’d tried to lull earlier wasn’t there anymore.

Jenna was hot with attraction, arousal, and pursuit.

It was like heat coming from her body. I looked at the cup and back to the counter.

The tea I used was normal, so what the hell was causing this?

All I could think was that I needed to diffuse the situation and get her the hell up out my house!

“I think it’s time for you to leave, Jenna. I told you, I don’t think it would be smart for us to even try to be together again. And honestly, it’s not something I would do anyway. I don’t believe in going backwards.”

“But I'm right in front of you. I'm not behind you.” She spoke in a tight voice. “How can you look at me and say that? After everything we’ve been through, you’re just ready to discard me again?”

“You know what I mean.” I stood. “And we haven’t been through anything in a long time. You’re turning a near-accident into something so much bigger than it ever was. I think that’s something you need to think about. But again, I’m asking you to leave.”

“I think you just need a lot of convincing.” Jenna stood from her seat and rounded the table. I could tell what she was going to do. It was a move she’d used on me so many times in the past.

Her signature approach to any disagreement was to walk up to me and put my hands on her ass. It was always that ass that got me. But this time, I couldn’t be captured that way.

As she approached me, I tried to calm her down again.

I created the same blanket and wrapped it around her.

but it didn’t work. My magic, under my control just minutes before, went haywire.

The colors of the blanket shifted, turning gold, red, green, black, then red again.

And then, it fizzled around her and slowly burned away.

The next thing I knew, my flirty little ex went from trying to push up on me to trying to attack me! She screamed at the top of her lungs as she lunged forward and punched me square in the face. I stumbled back but was able to recover before the second hit.

I caught her hand and shoved her back.

“What the fuck was that?” I rubbed my jaw, keeping a close eye on her in case she tried to hit me again.

Jenna’s wide eyes lost all appeal as she searched the room. I knew she was looking for something she could hit me with and started pulling everything out of her reach. There was no way I was going to let her get another one over on me.

“It’s time for you to go, Jenna. I mean it. And please don’t think about hitting me again, because I will whoop your ass if you even try it.”

“You can’t do this!” she screamed. “As much as I’ve done for you! I moved across the country to be with you again.”

“And who the hell asked you to do that, Jenna? Not me! You made that decision on your own.” I rubbed my jaw, which ached where she had hit me.

“I mean, really, who the hell lies about their mother being sick just so they can try to get close to someone? Do you think that’s attractive?

You think you should be rewarded now because you told the truth?

I’m trying to be nice about all this, but I’m over it, and you need to leave. ”

“You don't want me. I'm not good enough for you. How dare you look me in the eye and tell me I'm nothing but the past? I put myself out there, and you reject me. Who do you think you are?”

“Look, I’m not going to keep repeating myself.

Get out of my house, Jenna.” When I pointed to the exit, Sire swooped into the room.

She landed on the ground between us, and I already knew what would happen if things went south.

That bird was ready for a burn! It wouldn’t be the first time she lit up trying to protect me.

“I'm not going anywhere.” She crossed her arms over her chest, pouting like a child, reminding me of yet another reason things had ended between us, because when she didn’t get her way, she acted like a baby.

Another thing she had been told was adorable far too many times by past girlfriends.

They set her ass up for failure with that.

“Okay, I’ll call the cops now. How about that?” I pulled my phone from my pocket. “You won’t leave on your own? I’ll have you physically removed.”

Jenna’s eyes snapped to my hand. I noticed what she saw just a second too late.

“You bitch!” She jumped at me again, this time kicking my hand to knock the phone away. “You really just played in my face. Got me out here chasing you, and you’re engaged? I’m not the same woman I used to be. You can’t just push me around!”

Before I could say anything, Sire flew at Jenna, and she went straight for her eye! Jenna moved just a moment before the talon reached her face, and instead of losing an eye, she walked away with a cut just above her left cheek.

Instead of directing any anger at Sire, she locked in on me, and the next thing I knew, we were brawling. Jenna was right about something: she wasn’t the same woman. The last time I saw Jenna fight, she was doing the windmill with open hands. This time, she punched—with force.

Even with her new skills, I managed to avoid any damaging blows. I still tried to keep from hurting her too much…until she bit me. That’s right, the little crazy bitch bit me! And that’s when I punched her in the face and followed up with a targeted kick to her chest, sending her back away from me.

Her neck whipped, her head slamming against the wall—a result of my excessive force—then, she went limp and fell to the floor.

For a moment, I thought I'd killed her. I held my breath as I approached her, waiting to see her chest rise and fall. Eventually, it did.

“Oh, shit.” I put my hand on my chest, inhaling deeply. Satisfied my ex was still alive, I pulled out my phone and dialed the first person I could think of.

“Can't get enough of me, huh?” My fiery friend answered on the first ring.

“Tay, get over here now,” I rushed out.

“Who's that?” a deep voice spoke in the background. It sounded vaguely familiar.

“Uh, no one. I'm on my way, girl. I'll see you in a minute.” She hurried and hung up the phone.
