37. Cali
CHAPTER THIRTY-SEVEN
CALI
“ I know you’re not in here spending my damn money on another nigga,” Draco's voice whispered low and dangerously close to my ear, causing my annoyance to flare up.
I turned around slowly, meeting his handsome face with a roll of my eyes, trying to mask the surprise and slight excitement his sudden presence had caused.
“Your money? Nigga, last I checked, the money you gave me became mine when you left my house, which means I can do what the fuck I want to do with my money. Although, who’s to say I’m spending the money you gave me in here?” I was, but I wasn’t going to have him know that.
“I see you’re still upset about last week. I meant what I said, though, Cali. When that’s my pussy, this will be your dick.” He closed the space between us and whispered, “On another note… I had you moaning a nigga’s name in less than one minute of being in that pussy, so watch how the fuck you talk to me, baby.”
I pulled away from him, chuckling.
“And I made you nut in two minutes, so you watch how you talk to me, Draco.”
“I didn’t nut; I pulled out. Stopped playing with me, Cali.” That was true; I just wanted to fuck with him.
“ Anyways, well, if you must know, I’m not buying shit for a nigga. As you can see, I’m in the women's section,” I said as I turned back to face the collection of shoes.
“I was just fuckin’ with you.”
Intrigued, I cocked my head and asked, “What are you doing here anyway, though? You wouldn't happen to be stalking me, now, would you?”
“I’ve never had to stalk you, beautiful. If I wanna see you, I’ll just pull up at your job or to your crib. You know that. So, I guess we’re here for the same reasons,” he replied. Smart aleck.
I eyed him dubiously. “Mm-hmm.”
“But nah, I came in here looking for some shoes to go with a fit I’m wearing tonight. I hate wearing the same shoes, so I’m in this bitch quite often. So, the question is, what are you doing in here, Ms. Cali?”
“You sound like a shoe fanatic like Jai; actually, I’m here for her. I’m trying to find a pair of shoes to gift her for her upcoming birthday.”
Draco’s brows rose with interest.
“Word? Well, which ones do you think she’ll go for?”
I smiled, drifting my eyes over the shoes.
“Again, she loves sneakers, so if it was up to her, she’d probably get all of these.”
I could picture Jai's excitement, her eyes lighting up with joy at the sight of new shoes.
“Well, get the ones you think she’ll like and grab you and the twins some, too. Everything is on me today.”
“Are you sure about that? Draco, I will have you buying this whole store fuckin’ with me.”
“If I couldn’t afford it, I wouldn’t have offered it,” he quipped with a shrug. “As a matter of fact… aye!” he yelled over to one of the employees who hurriedly came over to assist us.
“Hello! What can I help you guys with?” she asked, her tone friendly and eager to help.
“Yeah, get my girl whatever she wants.” Draco then glanced at me. “I’ll be over here if you need me, baby,” he informed me, then trekked over to the men's section.
This nigga, I thought, shaking my head. There I was, trying to escape the pull of his presence when suddenly, he reappeared in my life like a scene I couldn’t rewrite.
After selecting five pairs of shoes that I knew Jai would love, I went over to the kids’ section to do a little shopping for them. Draco messed up when he told me to get all of us some shoes. He needed to know I planned to take full advantage of that.
“Cali Love… long time no see, boo!” Even though I hadn't heard that voice in some time, I recognized it instantly.
I turned around and came face-to-face with Kimberlee. Once my closest friend, she then stood before me like a rival. I was sure my expression was cold and unwelcoming. The bond we once shared felt like a distant memory, and in that moment, all I could see was the stranger in front of me, a reminder of everything that had changed between us.
“Bitch, don’t call me your boo! You know we don’t rock like that anymore!” I shot back, my voice laced with anger.
“Cali, are you really still salty about that night?” she asked with a chuckle, her casual demeanor only fueling my irritation.
“You're damn right I am!” I snapped, the hurt still fresh in my mind.
“Can we… well, you, just let it go already and put the past behind us? It's been almost three years,” she replied, her tone shifting slightly as if she genuinely wanted to mend things.
I crossed my arms, staring her down. I wasn’t ready to forgive, and I’d damn sure never forget.
“I don't give a damn how long it's been! After that shit you pulled that night, you're dead to me, Kimberlee! Now, move out of my damn way!” I pushed past her, brushing my shoulder against hers, intent on reaching Draco at the counter where he was paying for the shoes I had already selected. However, Kimberlee's next words stopped me cold.
“I don’t understand why you’re still upset. From what I can see, you ended up with the father of the twins after all.”
I turned on my heels.
“Say what?!” came the incredulous reply, my eyes widening in confusion.
“Him.” She discreetly pointed at Draco. “He was one of the mystery guys you slept with that night. Surprise, boo!”
That was the night I got pregnant! What the fuck?!
