Chapter 11

Chapter Eleven

Hawk woke to Lucky mumbling in her sleep, her body twitching. It took him a second to realize what she was saying.

“Don’t Desiree. No, no, no.”

She kicked him in the leg and pushed at his chest, her nails biting into his skin.

The nightmare made her restless. Nearly panicked.

“Des, stop.”

He wondered what her best friend was doing or saying in the dream.

The two had a long history. They’d grown up together.

They seemed close in real life, though their personalities were like night and day.

They probably bickered often, their opinions clashing.

Still, the friendship lasted this long. They were probably used to each other and knew that any dispute would blow over with time.

He imagined Lucky needed a friend so badly growing up with her sadistic father always tormenting her that anyone who was halfway decent would seem like a saint compared to him.

Maybe Desiree’s brash personality didn’t really matter to Lucky, because her friend had always been there for her in the best way she knew how.

Lucky mumbled and moaned in her sleep, then yelped, like she wanted to scream but couldn’t get it out, her arms flailing again.

Her whole body twitched and moved.

Hawk couldn’t take it anymore. He needed to wake her, but didn’t want to startle her out of whatever nightmare plagued her.

“Desiree!”

Why was she calling out her best friend’s name in distress?

Desiree was at the bar with her that night, but it was her ex’s face she kept remembering.

He wished he knew what really happened that night.

He’d keep fishing for answers, but right now he needed to bring Lucky out of her nightmare and into the dream of what he wanted their life to be together.

The sheet slowly slid down her body. Then the shirt Hawk had put her in last night inched up.

With every new patch of skin uncovered, Lucky felt Hawk’s warm lips laying a trail up her belly to her nipple.

He took it into his mouth and sucked it to a peak, making her back arch off the bed and offer her breasts up for him to feast.

“Mm.” She sank her fingers into his soft light brown hair and held him to her. “Morning.” Light was barely making its way through the crack in the drapes. It had to be early.

Hawk licked a circle around her other nipple, then sucked it into his mouth.

“You taste so good.” He raised his head and met her gaze, sliding his hand into hers, silently reminding her that moving that arm would hurt her shoulder.

Always taking care of her. “I love that smile. Waking up beside you this morning…nothing better.” He nuzzled his nose against the underside of her breast. “I left you hanging last night after our shower.”

“I fell asleep before you even got in the bed. I’m sorry.”

He swept his hands up her sides and over her breasts. “I wanted to taste you so bad, but I knew you needed your sleep. Time to recover. So let me do all the work this morning before I have to head into the office for a few hours.”

She didn’t want him to go. She loved spending time with him. It felt like every moment she had with him drew them a little bit closer together. “I’ll miss you,” she confessed. When had she ever missed anyone?

Well, except her little brother.

But this was different. This was Hawk, and he was here, trying so hard to make her feel better, safe, and connected to him.

His gaze turned possessive. “I’ll miss you, too. And if I could blow off the meeting, I would.”

She brushed her fingers through his hair because she could.

He wanted her touch. And that was so amazing.

“I don’t want you to put work off for me.

You’ve done so much already, staying with me at the hospital all that time.

I know how important working with your brothers is to you.

You told me how they keep you grounded and sane in your letters.

Gunn Brothers and Search and Rescue gives you a purpose. Everyone needs that.”

“What if I want to make you part of my purpose? You feel more important than anything.” He kissed her chest, right over her heart.

“I can be that for you while you take care of business. I’ll be here, waiting for you.”

He growled and nipped her bottom lip. “You have no idea how good that sounds to me.”

“Probably as good as it feels to know you’re coming back to me later.” Tears welled in her eyes. “As good as it felt every time I opened my eyes in the hospital and you were still there. I can’t believe you didn’t leave me there.” A tear spilled over her lashes and down her cheek.

Hawk pressed a kiss to her skin, soaking it up. “I couldn’t leave you. Not when you needed me.”

“I didn’t know how much I needed you. So much that I’m afraid it’s too much and you’ll pull away and I won’t ever feel like this again. The way only you make me feel.”

“What do you feel?”

“I think this is what it feels like to be happy. It’s been so long, I hardly remember ever feeling this way. Waking up to you wanting me…I can’t even explain it.” Her heart felt too full.

“You don’t need to. I know exactly how you feel, because I feel it, too. Now let me make you feel even better.” He trailed kisses back to her nipple, continuing where he left off, making her skin burn and her body writhe.

He went from one breast to the other, giving each equal attention as he slid down her body, kissing her belly, licking her belly button, then placing his mouth over her clit and licking her again, waking up her body even more.

He looked up at her. “You okay?”

“Don’t stop.”

He didn’t. He ramped things up, tracing her slit with his finger, spreading her juices over her skin, then sinking his finger deep inside her.

“You’re so tight.” He pumped his finger in once, twice, then again before adding a second finger, stretching her.

His tongue played with her clit, amping up her arousal and need.

He made her feel so much, like her body was filled with sparks bursting, ready to be set free.

He replaced his fingers with his tongue and circled her clit with his wet fingers.

God, that tongue.

He fucked her with it until she was holding his head to her pussy, grinding on his mouth and tongue.

She went off like a rocket and he kept pumping his fingers into her, helping her ride out the orgasm, prolonging it until the ultimate finish.

As she came down, her heart racing, lungs panting out heavy breaths, Hawk kissed her inner thighs from knee to hip, up both sides. “That’s my girl.” He wiped the back of his hand over his mouth and grinned up at her. “Good morning, sweetheart.”

“It is now.” She giggled. When was the last time she did that?

She pressed her hand to her sore shoulder. Breathing heavy set off shockwaves of pain.

He kissed the back of her hand over her wound. “Sorry about that.”

“I’m not. Not even a little bit.”

Worry still clouded his eyes. “Did you sleep well?”

“Next to you…yes.”

“You were talking in your sleep. Dreaming. Do you remember about what?”

She tried to bring it into focus. “Not really.” It seemed fuzzy. Like she remembered dreaming but couldn’t bring it back to mind. “What did I say?”

“You were saying Desiree’s name a lot.”

“Huh. It kind of makes sense. She’s my best friend. We talk all the time. She’s the one I call anytime I need someone to talk to, or I need help with something.”

“Do you trust her?”

She raised a brow. “Most of the time. Why?”

Hawk’s gaze narrowed. “Do you think she had anything to do with what happened to you?”

“Do I think my best friend tried to kill me? No. Why would she do that? We were out having fun. She took me home. She brought me clothes to the hospital. Why would she hurt me?”

“I don’t know. You seemed upset in your dream. Scared. I didn’t like it. And if she upsets you, I want to know why.”

Unsettled, Lucky tried to explain her complicated relationship with Desiree. “We’ve always had a lopsided relationship, mostly because our personalities clash. She wants to be in charge. She wants the focus on her. When it’s not, she gets upset and says things she doesn’t really mean.”

“And you take it because she’s your friend and you don’t want to make things worse.”

She loved that he understood. “Yes. After my family was murdered by someone so close to me, it was hard to trust anyone. Desiree has always been by my side. She’s always been consistently true.

I know what to expect from her and there’s comfort in that.

” She wanted to lighten things up. “Do you really want to talk about my friend while we’re in bed together? Naked.

“I like where your mind is going, but…stay here. I’ll be right back.” He hopped out of bed wearing just a pair of black boxer briefs, his impressive hard-on pressed against his belly.

“I can help you with that.” She held her hand out to him, hoping he’d come back to bed.

She’d gone so long without someone’s touch, now she wanted to explore all the things she’d missed over the past several years.

And because it was Hawk, she wanted to show him how much she appreciated and needed him.

Hawk stroked himself once, like he was trying to ease the ache she saw on his face. “Can’t. No time. Just stay right there. I have something for you.” He rushed out of the room.

She laid back and enjoyed the post orgasm bliss, wondering how she ended up here. In Hawk’s bed. In his house. And his heart.

I’m his girlfriend. That seemed so wild.

Hawk walked in carrying a mug and plate. “Breakfast in bed.” He waited for her to sit up, then handed her the coffee with milk, just the way she liked it, and a cheese, green onion, and bacon omelet. “How did you remember how I like my coffee?”

“I think it was the third time you cleaned for me, you left me a bag of the coffee you like best and said that if I was going to drink coffee at all hours of the day and night, I should at least drink good coffee. You said you liked yours with a dollop of milk. I still don’t know how you knew I drank it at all hours. ”
