Chapter Two
Praxis sped down the freshly paved roads, heading to the psychiatric hospital where his little sister was being held. He had tried to convince his eldest brother to get her after her sentence was completed, but he was adamant that she needed to be there longer.
He wasn't even allowed to see her. She had to have thought they had all forgotten about her.
However, it wasn't like they had paid her attention when she was growing up.
She would always try to get their attention and seek the affection that they never gave to her.
The little girl had eventually accepted that she would never get the love she craved and needed.
Praxis regretted it greatly. Verena had not done anything to deserve the treatment. The Velton brothers were just bitter that their mother had cheated on their father with his enemy, and she was the result of it.
As far as they were aware, the Nicoletti family had no idea of her existence except for her real father, Vince Nicoletti.
Vince paid no mind to Verena's existence, knowing she was only born as a form of rebellion against her father.
Verena was only just a tool and never looked at as a little girl who deserved love and attention.
Praxis wanted to make it right with her somehow. He knew he didn't deserve forgiveness, but he was going to try. The first step was getting her out of the psychiatric hospital.
He had no clue of the condition she was in. He had no updates on what her progress was or how she was doing. She was completely cut off from him. He hoped that she was okay.
Praxis tried calling the hospital but was hung up on when the staff realized who he was. This only made him more anxious about getting Verena. He felt that something wasn't right with the hospital, to begin with, and getting hung up on did not make him feel any better.
Praxis tapped his fingers on the steering wheel with impatience.
He was anxious to get to his little sister to see her state.
To beg her for a fresh start. To promise her that he would be better and be the older brother she deserved.
He knew he didn't deserve forgiveness, but he was going to, at the very least, try.
Praxis pulled up to a gate that has a long road that was covered with trees behind hit.
He looked at the touch screen in his car that told him he was at the location he typed in.
He had snatched the information of the location to the hospital by sneaking into Davian's office and was able to find a sticky note with the address on it.
Davian would most likely kill him for that, but he was the one ignoring their sister's existence and keeping her in a sketchy psychiatric ward.
Praxis put the car in park and opened the door to be hit by the frigid breeze of the winter air. He saw a buzzer next to the gate and went over to see of the thing even worked.
Praxis slammed his hand on the buzzer and waited or an answer. After a minute passed, he tried again. Nothing. He felt his impatience turn into anger and began to aggressively hit the button nonstop. Finally, a static voice came through the speaker.
"Who's there?" the static voice answered. The speaker was so bad he could hardly understand what was being said.
"I'm getting my sister. Verena Velton." He shouted.
"Velton?" the speaker responded in what sounded like a tone of fear.
Suddenly, the sound of a car racing towards him caught his attention. He whipped around to see what was coming up behind him, and then he saw the familiar car of his oldest brother speeding towards him. When he was just about to think the car would hit him, it screeched to a stop.
Davian practically leaped out of the car and charged Praxis with an enraged expression. "What in the actual fuck are you doing?" he yelled.
"Getting my sister before you tried to hit me with your ugly Tesla." Praxis snapped at him. He would usually back down from his eldest brother that was as intimidating as a growling bear he was determined to hold his ground this time.
"Maybe I should have hit you! How dare you break into my office?" Davian yelled as the wind blew through his dirty blonde hair.
"You would never tell me the secret location of where Verena was. She should have been home a long time ago. In fact, she should have never been sent away in the first place." Praxis defended.
"That's what the judge sentenced," Davian yelled as he threw up his hands in the air in frustration.
Praxis rolled his eyes, "Oh please, you could have easily threatened your way out of that."
"It was to keep her safe." Davian gritted through his teeth.
Praxis snorted. "You just wanted her out of our lives. None of you ever cared about her. You all just saw her as a burden."
The cold wind cut through the air, creating a frigid chill. The tension between the brothers was colder.
"Don't pretend you were any better." Davian shot back.
The voice went quiet, and then the gate opened. "And I regret it deeply. I am going to do everything I can to make it up to her and give her the love she deserves. Give her the love she should have." Praxis sighed pinching the middle of his nose.
Davian sighed. "Well, let's go get her then."
Praxis raised his eyebrows in surprise. He never expected Davian to actually have her discharged from the psychiatric hospital. He should have done it a long time ago, but it was something that he was willing to get her after Praxis called him out. He normally didn't tolerate that.
Davian looked towards the worn intercom. He pressed the buzzer and when he didn't get an answer he frowned in annoyance. "Hey!" he shouted.
"Hello?" a static voice once again asked through the intercom that was holding on for dear life.
"Davian Velton. I'm getting my sister Verena Velton." He said loudly.
"Um you can't do that at the moment sir." The voice said nervously.
"You will let me through unless you want me to drive through the goddamn gate and damage my car. You don't want me to damage my car." He warned.
"Sir please. We really can't let you in at the moment." The person pleaded.
Davian's face began to morph into anger. "You will let me in right now unless you want me to force my way in and fucking shoot you. Let. Me. In."
The gates slowly creaked open and the brothers went to their cars and drove through the gates towards the old building.
