Chapter 11

Ihad all the windows down while I drove because it was a fairly warm day for it to be December.

My music was blasting loudly, so I was singing at the top of my lungs.

I was on my way to Tai’s house from the gym.

I had to go sweat off all the food Ketai was feeding me.

You couldn’t convince me that the man wasn’t trying to plump me up.

Every time I looked up, he had some food, and I was eating it.

I just needed to stop looking up at this point before my chin was too heavy to lift.

“Rolling down a lonely highway, asking God to please forgive me,” I sang like I was the one who wrote the lyrics. My R Miles had better be ready to crank that Eskimo up.

On cue, I saw our truck pulling up. “Miles is going to take you to the crib while I handle this. Cool?”

I gripped his shirt tighter. “Are you coming home after you’re done?”

He nodded. “Of course.”

I sighed and loosened my grip. “Okay, thank you. You the best man in the world, Stanley. I love you,” I whispered.

The brightest smile appeared on his face. He snatched me back into him before gripping my chin. He tilted my head up, and I could only see him. “I love you too, Shirley,” he teased me seconds before he kissed me. “Been in love with you.”

Every time I thought I couldn’t be more for this man, he proved otherwise. “Please hurry. I need you,” I admitted.

“Don’t have to tell me twice. I’ll be as quick as I can be.”

I nodded. “Alright.” He released me, and I walked toward the open door. Sliding on the back seat, I took a deep breath and sank into the buttery seat. I watched Ketai on his phone and could only feel gratitude for him. Nothing felt better than knowing he would come running whenever I called.
