Chapter 19
Chapter Nineteen
Kreed
Hudson was a little loopy on the painkillers he’d been given before leaving the hospital.
He’d slept the entire time while I waited for his medications to be filled at the pharmacy, and it took me and Corvus working together to get him into the house because walking was just a little difficult with the stab wound in his abdomen and the pain medication coursing through his system.
No one realizes how much abdominal muscles are needed when walking until they’re injured.
A low groan sounded from Hudson as I gently eased him onto my bed.
I’d never shared this bed with Bonnie. Fuck, her things had never even been put into this room.
She had another room in the house that was practically bare, since she had always kept an apartment in the city—an apartment I would no longer pay for once the divorce was finalized.
And I still fully intended to divorce her, even while she was behind bars.
“You good?” I softly asked as Corvus swung Hudson’s legs up on the bed. Grabbing the covers, I quickly tucked him in.
“Mhm,” Hudson mumbled, his eyes already shutting. “Stay.”
I barely made out the single-worded command, but it was just loud enough for me to know what he wanted.
I looked at Corvus. He was traumatized by what’d happened to Hudson.
I wasn’t all too sure about leaving him alone for long in the house where he’d witnessed his best friend—hell, his brother—almost get murdered.
“I’ll be fine,” Corvus assured me. “I’ll just use Hudson’s credit card to order takeout, and I’ll veg out in front of the TV for a few hours.”
I barked out a laugh. “Alright, kid. You know where I’ll be if you need me.”
He nodded and left the room, quietly shutting the door behind him.
I toed off my shoes then gingerly laid on the bed beside Hudson.
After draping my arm over his hip and scooting close, so my body was flush with his side, I closed my eyes, allowing myself to finally fall asleep, as well.
Fuck knew I needed it. I hadn’t slept in over twenty-four hours.
Not since I got that phone call that almost destroyed my entire world.
But he was home now. Alive and safe. And I’d never let anyone fucking touch him again. Not as long as I lived.
“Fuck,” Hudson hissed, jerking me out of my sleep. My eyes snapped open, and I pushed myself up onto one elbow just as he managed to roll into a sitting position. I scurried to the edge of the bed.
“Hudson, baby, wait. You’re going to hurt yourself.”
He shook his head. “I just need to piss, and you heard the doc. If I don’t force myself to walk, I’ll set back my recovery.
” He smirked up at me as I rounded the bed, but it didn’t reach his eyes, which were a little hazy with pain.
“I’m not going a second longer without sex with you than I have to. ”
Heaving an exasperated sigh, I shook my head. The boy had a one-track mind, I swore. “Just let me help—”
He pushed himself off the bed, hissing a breath through his teeth.
“We can still do things besides literal sex, Hudson.”
He took a step forward, and I huffed, glaring at him.
“You are so fucking stubborn, boy.”
He grunted, his jaw clenched tightly with pain. “You wouldn’t have me any other way.”
No, I wouldn’t, but that was beside the point.
I didn’t want him hurting himself more. I hovered closely as he slowly made his way to the en suite bathroom.
I flicked on the light for him, so he could hobble straight to the toilet.
“You need to rest. You were literally stabbed and had surgery less than forty-eight hours ago, baby.”
He sighed as he released his bladder. I leaned my shoulder on the wall, waiting to make sure he didn’t need assistance.
“I’m aware, Kreed.” His voice was bitter. “I was the one bleeding the fuck out, remember?”
I narrowed my eyes at him. “I know you’re in pain, but don’t take it out on me. I know I could’ve forced you to come to work with me, or—”
His shoulders slumped as he tucked his cock back into his sweats.
“Don’t,” he said quietly. “Don’t go over everything you could’ve done differently.
” He made his way to the counter and washed his hands.
“Bonnie is a fucking psycho, and you did your best to protect me with the very little facts you had about how terrible shit could get around her. No one is at fault but her and that fucking asshole she was banging.”
I wrapped my arms around his chest and rested my chin on his shoulder as he dried his hands. Our eyes met in the mirror. “I fucking hate that she did this to you again.” I pressed a kiss to his shoulder. “It makes me sick to my fucking stomach.”
Hudson shook his head and lifted his hands, curling them around my forearms. “Don’t.
She’s finally going to get what’s coming for her.
Not only will she lose access to the only thing that’s mattered to her—money—but she’ll also be stuck sharing showers with other women, wearing the same thing every single day, and she’ll no longer be able to pamper herself.
She’ll lose everything that’s ever mattered to her, and that is enough for me. ”
I grunted. “Simple man.”
It certainly wasn’t enough for me. I wanted her to suffer for everything she’d done to Hudson. But I wasn’t the one she’d wronged. Hudson was, so if that was all he wanted, then I’d settle.
So long as he was happy with the outcome.
“I just want you.” He slowly turned to face me, his lips twisted into a grimace until he could lean back on the counter.
His hands came to rest on my sides, and his thumbs stroked over my bare skin.
“You realize whether you caved or not, I planned to have you, even if it meant she did something even more outrageous than have me attacked?”
I sighed in exasperation. “You’re reckless, Hudson.”
He smirked. “Reckless for you.”
I laughed quietly and pressed a kiss to the tip of his nose. “Let’s get you back to bed, baby. You need more rest and some food.”
I moved back, giving him space to walk on his own. It took an agonizing amount of time, but he finally laid down on the bed. I pressed a kiss to the top of his head. “I’ll be back in a bit with some food. Try to sleep. I’ll wake you when I’m back.”
He hummed as his eyes closed. “I got you off in this spot.”
My lips quirked with an aborted smile, and I shook my head. “Sleep, Hudson.”
