Chapter 16 #2

“You told me that drinking your blood was a sacred thing to you,” I said breathlessly, kissing along his shoulder. I loved the way he twitched, almost shivering, when my lips connected with his skin. “Bind us, Levy.”

Levette bit down on his lip hard, contemplating. But when he looked me in the eye and saw no hesitation there, I knew his decision was made. Levette had already claimed me; binding us would make no difference.

He held his wrist up to his mouth and bit down, tearing the skin.

Pressing it to my lips, he continued his slow thrusts as I opened my mouth and let his blood pour in.

At first, I could only taste the iron, but it changed into something sweet and addictive as I continued to drink.

I grabbed at his wrist and lapped up his blood like I needed it to survive.

Levette watched and groaned loudly as I slid my tongue along his wrist, drinking it down.

That was his undoing. Any restraint he had disappeared. He ripped his wrist away so that he could clamp down on my neck, taking my blood as he moved faster. I gripped onto him and opened my mouth on a silent scream as he hit further inside me at the same time as he sucked.

“Levette,” I moaned as my climax hit, Levette following soon after.

My head spun as Levette licked over my neck, pulling back to look at me with a satisfied grin on his face, my blood smeared across his mouth. My body was weak and sated, and I found myself grinning back, overcome with emotion.

Collapsing next to me, Levette let his head fall against the pillow as he panted, reaching for my hand to link our fingers. He tilted his head to look at me, his dark hair spread out around him like a crown of shadows. “Are you okay, mon cher? Was it…”

I smiled at his sudden shyness, the nervousness tainting his voice. “It was perfect.” I leaned over and kissed him softly, resting our clasped hands on his chest. “Thank you.”

Levette smoothed my hair, his eyes roaming over me like he was committing my face to memory. I covered my face with my hands, color rising to my cheeks. “Why are you staring at me like that?”

“You look like an angel,” he professed quietly, reverence in his voice. “An angel who just gifted me something I’ve always longed for.”

I slowly lowered my hands. “Not you. Levy, you look every bit the dangerous thing that you are. Since the moment we met, I knew you had violence and danger in you. I just happened to fall in love with you anyway, danger and all.”

Levette pulled me closer, my head tucked under his as I lay on his chest. “You make me feel like I am alive, Warren. Your love ignited something in me and I feel like I was born anew.”

I pressed a kiss to his chest, resting my hand over his heart. “Perhaps you were. We both were. Let us learn to be alive together.”

We lay together on my little bed, lazily kissing and running our hands over each other for hours.

It felt as though I had given myself the freedom to really be myself, to own the part of me that I was so ashamed of.

Levette was right: I deserved to be happy.

Everything else, I could figure out later.

As the sun began to rise, Levette cursed. “I have to leave. The light will not be blocked enough here. I am sorry to leave, mon amour. I wish I could stay.”

I pouted dramatically at him before laughing. “Do not apologize. I would rather you not burn to ash. I am rather fond of you now. Besides, I would like another chance to repeat what we did…”

Levette burst into laughter, the sound warming my ears. “You are full of surprises, Warren Hayes.”

“Hurry! Go before the sun rises.”

“I will see you tonight, oui?”

I rolled my eyes. “I will be right here. Come and get me when you rise.”

He rushed over to the bed, capturing my lips in a lingering kiss, before rushing to the door. “I love you.”

I moved onto my side, resting my head on my forearm so I could watch him, a sleepy smile on my face. “I love you, too, Levy.”

My eyes drifted closed as he left, and I fell into a restful sleep for the first time in a long time. My body had been spent, my muscles aching, and exhaustion claimed me.

The sound of my apartment door opening and closing roused me from sleep, and I cracked an eye open, expecting to see Levette, but the sun was shining brightly, and the realization that it wasn’t him dawned on me.

Assuming I must have dreamt it, I closed my eyes again and willed sleep to drag me under.

“Expecting someone else?”

I jumped at the sound of a voice in the room, and my eyes flashed open. I gasped at the sight of my brother in my apartment. He looked even worse than he had the last time I saw him—when he beat me almost to death—with wild eyes, his face gaunt and shadows darkening his pale skin.

“What are you doing here, Robert?” I asked, grabbing my bedsheet and pulling it up over my chest.

Robert laughed callously, waving his Bible in the air as he gestured to me.

“I’m here to give you a reckoning. I waited until your hellspawn left before I let myself in.

” He reached behind him, moving too quickly for me to see the club in his other hand as he swung, hitting me in the side of the head.

“It’s time you came to terms with your perdition, Warren. Allow me to help you.”
