Letter Excerpt

Levette,

If you address me as Maggie one more time, I am going to chain you to the wall and drain the blood from you.

As for the bayou problem, I have sent two of my coven to deal with it. I believe you have met Frank and Lyssa before. Please let me know if they cannot handle the job; I will deal with it personally.

I have not been informed of when they will grant Ria life again, as though it is theirs to gift! But I have hope that it will be soon. I feel her in my soul, so I know it will not be long.

Warren is okay. I have not visited him, nor do I think that the Authority would allow me to.

We are all safer this way. But yes, I miss him, too.

He seems…more himself, albeit melancholy.

I do not believe the curse has yet lifted, though I will test the theory when I am next in New Orleans.

I can see if it lingers in your blood. I have business there soon—make sure your inventory is in order and the correct invoices are prepared.

I would not object if you were to accompany me to feed afterward.

I have forgiven him, Levette. He betrayed me in the worst way, but I do not hold hate towards him. There are always people watching me, preventing me from reaching out to him. Believe me when I say that his exile was designed to punish me more than him.

Do not contact him. He is, for the most part, surviving without a constant cloud of self-hatred hanging over him. If the spell is still on you both and you were to reach out to him, it could undo everything these past years have been for.

It may be something you care about; I honestly do not know, but he continues to wear the cross chain you gifted him.

I see it in the flashes of memories he has.

He told me once that it was the most meaningful present he had ever received—perhaps this is something you can take comfort in.

He still has a piece of you residing over his heart, alongside his beloved Christ.

I shall be in contact soon. And please, stop trying to put your walls up in that dark little mind of yours. I’ve been alive longer than you realize and can overpower you just by blinking; getting into your head is nothing.

I’ll write again soon. Or maybe I’ll just arrive on your doorstep to keep you on your toes.

Sincerely,

Lena
