Chapter 4 The Tutor

He would stand up for me.

I stared at him in a daze.

No one had ever said such words to me. No one had ever been willing to stand up for me.

"What? Still don't dare?" Seeing that I remained silent, he looked somewhat disappointed. "If that's the case, then just endure it..."

Before he could finish, I reached out and grabbed his sleeve.

"Uncle-in-Law, how will you stand up for me?" The question slipped out before I could think. All I remembered was his disappointed look and the words about standing up for me.

How could he stand up for me? He was just a Prince Consort from a fallen marquis family.

But the man simply let out a soft snort. "I have my own ways."

Then he stopped paying attention to the two boys and took me straight to the Empress's palace.

That was how I learned how he stood up for me.

By telling on them.

Only the person he told on to was the ruler of the six palaces, the Empress.

So even adults told on others to adults.

I followed behind him, carefully watching the Empress seated at the head.

Uncle-in-Law had told me this trick was taught to him by my Aunt. The Empress responded better to softness than hardness.

Perhaps my eyes really did resemble my princess Aunt's. I saw the Empress pause for a moment, then look at the man with understanding.

"This child is quite lovable. Unfortunately, I manage the six palaces and have no time to teach him personally. If you like this child, why don't you become his tutor?"

And so, I gained another tutor.
