Chapter 8 Reborn Recognition
Discovering I had been reborn, my first reaction was shock, followed by wild joy.
I shook off the palace servants watching me and spotted the carriage marked with the Princess Manor ahead. I immediately climbed aboard.
I heard the servants chasing after me trying to grab me, only to be scolded by the Princess Manor guards who arrived.
"How dare you! Do you think you can act recklessly with the Sixth Princess's carriage?"
Sixth Princess. Song Jinshu. My aunt.
Hearing those words, I instinctively recalled the face I had only seen a few times in my previous life. Heaven might not have given me just one chance to start over.
Heaven had finally shown mercy to Uncle-in-Law as well, giving him a chance to begin again.
My aunt Song Jinshu was still alive.
I hid inside the carriage until the Princess Manor servants found me and brought me before the princess.
"You are... the Imperial Eldest Grandson?" My princess aunt looked at me, her expression different from everyone I had seen before.
She frowned at first, then seemed to remember something. A trace of pity appeared in her eyes.
I looked at the man beside her. My eyes lit up, and I ran straight toward them.
"What happened? Did some blind servant bully you?" She reached out to hold me, but when she saw I was hugging Uncle-in-Law instead, embarrassment flashed across her face.
I had no time to care. I threw myself into the man's arms and could not stop crying. "Uncle-in-Law!"
Damn it. Why could this child's body not stay in control?
I heard my princess aunt order the servants to prepare dinner and thoughtfully ask for pastries a child would like.
I kept crying in Uncle-in-Law's arms. Damn it. My reputation as emperor! This child's body simply would not obey.
After the servants left, my princess aunt watched us curiously and asked when Uncle-in-Law and I had met.
"No, I am being wronged here." Uncle-in-Law let go, his eyes innocent. "I am not familiar with this child. Truly."
"Uncle-in-Law?" I stared at him in shock.
Could I have been wrong? Could it be that only I had been reborn and he had not?
Yet when I met his gaze, I could not tell.
The man before me was too different from the Uncle-in-Law I had known in my previous life.
He suddenly seemed full of life as he looked at me and said evenly, "Why did you hug me and cry the moment you saw me, child?"
I was stunned. My heart sank. This person might really not be the Uncle-in-Law from before.
"I... I..."
"I?" His eyes sharpened.
I wanted to cry again.
"Oh, enough. If you do not know him, then you do not know him. Why scare the child?" My aunt stepped forward and held me gently. "There, there. Little crybaby, do not cry anymore."
Damn it! I was the emperor! I was not a crybaby!
"I am not a crybaby!"
"Fine, fine. Not a crybaby. A little stutterer, then."
"Waaah..." This woman was truly too much!
I cried until the sky went dark, pouring out every grievance from both lives.
When I finally noticed, I was already being held.
It was a familiar embrace, the same one from the mourning hall in my previous life.
"There, there. Uncle-in-Law is here." A familiar large hand patted my head gently.
I looked up at him through tears. "Uncle-in-Law... are you the Uncle-in-Law I know?"
He laughed. "How many uncles-in-law could you have?"
Then he turned to my princess aunt and said meaningfully, "Unless your aunt no longer wants me, I will always be your Uncle-in-Law."
I understood. This was the Uncle-in-Law from before.
I simply had not known that in front of my aunt, he could be this shameless.
