GLOSSARY

Wildflower Ridge is a New Zealand based sheep and beef farm and as such, this book uses New Zealand spelling and language. I’ve included some Kiwi-isms and farming terms in this glossary to help you out.

Bench - a kitchen counter

Bush - native forest

Gumboots - wellington/rubber boots

Heifer - a female cow that hasn’t had a calf yet, or is having one for the first time

Hereford - a breed of beef cattle that is a reddish colour with white face and markings

Horse float - a horse trailer

Paddock - a fenced off field to keep stock in

Side-by-side - an all terrain farm vehicle

Spotlight - a version of hide and seek/tag, played at night. A Kiwi childhood classic

Ute - a ‘utility vehicle’, commonly referred to as a pick up truck in other parts of the world
