Chapter Thirty-One

Jett

I’m standing outside of Everest’s new room, our new room, pacing as I wait for him to be done. I can’t believe we did it, that Everest did it. He got everything he asked for. Every. Single. Thing.

My body is still vibrating with adrenaline.

I woke up this morning, stuck somewhere between hoping I was enough for Everest to want to stay here, and feeling confident that the plan we made for his sister would work.

As long as she was taken care of, I was hopeful that he’d be comfortable staying here.

Axel agreed with me, but it was still a shot in the dark since he wouldn’t actually be with her.

In fact, he might’ve never seen her again if it wasn’t for the little vacation idea he pitched.

Fuck. He’s so freaking brilliant. I never would’ve thought of that. And… and… he got me a permanent job placement as his assistant. I seriously have no idea how he thought of all that shit.

Footsteps draw my attention, and when I look up, the most beautiful smile in the world greets me. He takes off running toward me, and I catch him in my arms. He wraps himself around me so tight that I can hardly catch my breath.

“I love you, I love you, I love you. I love you, Jett.”

I take his face in my hands and tilt my forehead against his. “I love you too, Everest.”

He leans forward to kiss me as tears trickle down his cheeks. It’s quick, too quick, as he tries his best to cling onto me tighter.

“I’ve got you, schon.” I assure him as I wipe the tears away.

“Tell me it’s not a dream, JP. Tell me.“ He begs as he nuzzles his face into my neck. I hold him as close to my chest as he can possibly get, knowing without a shred of doubt that I’ll never be letting him go ever again.

“It’s real, E. It’s real.”
