Chapter 5
CHAPTER FIVE
Veda
Caden worked a condom on before he positioned himself above me, dropping kisses along my skin.
“If I hadn’t known, I wouldn’t think you’re a day over twenty-five.”
I blushed and let out a nervous laugh.
“Twenty-five? No way.”
“It’s true.” He kissed my forehead, my eyelids, my nose.
“You’re so fucking beautiful.” He cupped my face with both his hands and kissed me over and over again.
He nudged my legs apart and settled himself between them.
“Every part of you is gorgeous.” He kissed me all over and worshipped every inch of my skin.
I’d never had a man make me feel as beautiful as Caden did.
He appreciated me and my body despite my age.
As desperate as I was for him to be inside me, I enjoyed him taking his time as he explored, kissed, touched, and caressed.
And when he finally slid his dick inside my aching pussy, we both moaned in pure pleasure, our bodies a perfect fit.
We fucked for hours that afternoon, the power cutting off at some point, plunging us into complete darkness as the storm raged outside.
When we finally came up for air, I fell back into the pillows, my body limp.
“Want a drink or some food? I’m starving,” Caden said as he sat up and swung his legs out of bed.
I enjoyed watching his sexy, naked body move around, and the delicious ache between my legs reminded me of all the naughty things we did.
“Yes, please,” I said and pulled the blankets up to below my chin.
“Need any help?”
He looked back at me and grinned.
Then he leaned down and planted a kiss on my lips.
“You stay right there, beautiful. In my bed. By the way, I was going to offer to sleep on the couch tonight. But no point now.” Caden winked.
I flushed.
“You knew what you were doing bringing me here with only one bed available.”
He winked again.
“Maybe so.” He kissed me again before slipping on a pair of boxers and walking out of the room.
Sir Barksalot was waiting at the door, and he jumped up as soon as Caden opened it.
“I know, buddy. You’re hungry. Let’s go.” He looked back at me.
“Be right back, gorgeous.” He blew me a kiss and left.
I stared at the ceiling and sighed.
I’d just had the best sex of my life.
I was about to have the same amazing sex all night long.
Yet the nagging part of my brain couldn’t stop reminding me that this could never be anything.
I didn’t live in Apple Falls, and Caden didn’t want an older woman like me when his handsome ass could have any woman he wanted.
Suddenly, I didn’t feel right lying in his bed.
I threw off the covers and got out of bed.
I grabbed the clothes Caden let me borrow from where they fell on the floor and quickly dressed.
One look out the window told me the storm was still going strong, and he wouldn’t let me leave.
But staying in bed and having sex with this man wasn’t a good idea either.
I avoided dating for this very reason.
Relationships didn’t seem to work out for me, as I gave so much and never got much in return.
I fell hard and fast, and that was exactly what would happen here.
A sinking realization hit me sideways.
It already happened.
What am I thinking?
I ran a hand through my long, wavy hair and walked out to the kitchen where Caden was fixing sandwiches.
He looked at me with surprise.
“Hey, you. You’re dressed. And out of bed.”
I wrung my hands together as I slid onto a barstool.
“Look, Caden, I?—”
He held his hand up.
“It’s fine, Veda, really. You don’t have to explain. We made a mistake, got caught up in the moment. I know the whole spiel.”
I sighed.
I could see the hurt and disappointment in his eyes.
“It would be silly to start anything. I live over an hour away. I’m only here until Sunday morning.”
Caden walked over to the bar with two plates and set one down in front of me and one across.
Then he set down two glasses of water and took a seat.
“I’m not looking to start anything.”
“So you just wanted a hookup?”
“Yeah, isn’t that what you wanted?”
I shrugged.
Inside, I hated it, hated that he only wanted me for sex when it felt like so much more.
But I couldn’t show him my hand; I needed to keep my cards close to my chest.
I forced a smile.
“Yes, perfect. Great, glad we worked that out.”
But nothing felt worked out.
Not one bit.
We spent the night in his bed, but hardly any sleep happened.
Between talking about everything from our childhood to our dreams and passions, and the rounds of sex, the hours passed by quickly.
Neither of us could keep our hands to ourselves, and Caden’s stamina was unmatched.
I could definitely get used to those perks of a younger man.
The storm continued well into the morning, and when we finally emerged after a little bit of sleep, Caden said he had to hurry and get me home to start on storm cleanup.
He seemed distracted when he ushered me into the car, and I wondered what had happened in the short time from when we fell asleep to now.
I figured he was stressed from the storm, and we rode in silence to the orchard, Sir Barksalot slobbering all over the back seat and my ear.
“Thanks again for everything,” I said as he pulled up next to my parked car.
“I’ll see you around.”
He nodded curtly, the warmth from before gone.
Was this how he treated the women he had one-night stands with?
A cold shoulder and a curt nod were all I got, with a nicer goodbye from his dog.
“See ya.”
I watched as he drove off and pulled into Cash’s driveway without a single glance back.
I shook my head, disappointment and anger filling me from head to toe.
When will I learn my damn lesson?
