Epilogue
Alex
When we head back to campus a week later, I can officially confirm that Margot and I are one hundred percent together. Everyone knows it. Everyone is getting used to it. I get to hold my girl’s hand on campus and not worry about how people are going to treat her. Even her roommates have warmed back up to me.
We decide to continue doing Ask Alex episodes because…why not? It was the most fun I’ve had and it made sure we spent time together every week, especially since we had no classes together during the spring semester. There was only one change I requested when we brought the new podcast to air, which of course met with reluctance but eventual acceptance. We even got a banner to put behind us during the taping. One displaying the new title: Ask Alex AND Margot (yes, the ‘and’ is capitalized).
Margot is full of confidence after that internship. Ready to take on the world with me and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Just one more thing first…
“What’s going on? Why aren’t you guys having a party? It’s Friday night,” Margot asks as she looks around our empty living room. No kegs, no red solo cups, no DJ blasting music far too loudly. She looks over at me, perplexed.
“Decided no more parties for the rest of the year,” I replied, shrugging my shoulders nonchalantly. When she turns back around, I wink at Devon over her head, giving him the signal.
He nods his head and whistles. Margot whips her head in his direction but the damage is already done. The confetti pours from the ceiling fan and falls all over us. Margot looks up in astonishment.
“Get pranked, sunshine,” I say through my laughter. Margot chuckles as the confetti falls on her head and mine.
Her smile is wide when she says, “Grow up, frat boy.” Then she kisses me. Her coconut scent, her soft lips on mine, the confetti falling around us. It all makes me feel like I’ve finally won the future I deserve.
