She stiffened, trying to obey him.
“Good girl,” he repeated, patting her butt. “As I said earlier, it’s not normal for people to visit us so soon after our ceremony. It’s unheard of. But there is unrest, and it’s important that we pay attention to our surroundings and be kept up-to-date on what’s happening outside these walls.”
She flattened her palms on his chest, trying to remain still and focus on his words.
“We’re surrounded by Alphas and some of their mates. They’ll keep their distance so that we’ll have some privacy, but they will remain outside in shifts around the clock.”
“Because of that bear?” she asked, wondering how dangerous he might be.
“Yes, the bear, for one. But we’ve also recently become aware of another shifter species lurking around, and we’re uncertain of their abilities.”
She stared at him, not blinking. “Another animal? Not just the bears?” Until today, she hadn’t been aware of any other shifters besides the wolves. First bears. Now what?
“Lions.”
Amber gasped.
Daddy continued, “Our job as Alpha Protectors is to ensure the safety of everyone in the valley, and it would seem that the universe is calling on us to make some changes to our way of life.”
“What changes?” Amber asked, trembling.
He smiled and leaned forward to kiss her nose.
“Like I said before, many of our recent mates have powers and abilities never seen among our people. Powers that surpass anything the Alpha Protectors are capable of. Powers that involve the senses. I have no doubt your ability to see not just long distances but seemingly through things will become even more enhanced after we consummate our mating and you go through your first shift.”
Amber gripped her Daddy’s chest with her fingertips, straining to keep from rocking her pussy against him. “I don’t know how I could possibly see better than I do now.”

“New gifts are suddenly emerging. Another recent mate, Leah, woke up this morning describing a vivid dream she’d had about Drow escaping from confinement.”
“Drow is the bear on the loose?”
“Yes. The bear he killed was named Firat. Neither of them had good intentions, but Drow has gone completely rogue, wanting to attack our community.”
Amber bit her lip, listening closely, knowing all of this was important. Her Daddy’s brows were furrowed as he explained things. “Can he get to us?”
“No, Little one. He can’t. Not with all the information we have. Molly can hear him every time he grumbles. Rylee can scent him and pinpoint where he is and how far away. If he were to make a decision, Khloe would have a vision and alert the rest of us.”
“And I’ll be able to see him?”
“Apparently. For now, though, all of this needs to be put on the back burner. All that matters is the two of us getting to know each other.”
“And consummating our union,” she muttered, knowing that was key to everything.
“Yes, Little one. That is important. But it doesn’t mean I will ever rush you. We will take our time.”
“But everyone is outside, surrounding us, and the longer we go without uh… doing the, uh, sex, the longer they will be in danger, waiting.”
He smiled. No doubt her stumbling words amused him.
“Nothing will change. Not even after we have sex, Little one. We will still be guarded so that we don’t have to pay close attention to our surroundings.
It’s important for us to block them all out, pretend they’re not there, and spend this time together.
Even after we have sex, it will take hours for you to transition and go through your first shift.

“But Molly can also hear us. Can she hear what we’re saying even now?”
“Yes. But she’s good at focusing on what she needs to hear and blocking out the rest. She has a job to do out there. She’s listening in on the bears. Not just Drow but all the others who are tracking him.”
“Why can’t she just tell them where he is? And Rylee? You said she knows, too.”
“I’m sure he’s moving. I’m also certain the bears have him surrounded. Believe it or not, with the exception of the skills many of the recent mates have developed, the bears are more advanced than us. They’re capable of blocking their scent from us. Or they were. None of them can block Rylee.”
Amber chuckled. “Why am I not surprised? Of course my best friend would have some extraordinary ability to explain why she’s been so sensitive to smells all her life.”
“For that very reason, she suspected you would develop an uncanny ability to see.”
Amber drew in a deep breath. “So it’s decided. We have to ignore them. Pretend they aren’t out there. Have sex, get through my first shift, take a nap, and then join them and find out what I can do to help.”
Isaac’s smile was so broad it lit up the room. “My Little girl is so brave.”

He chuckled. “So brave.” He tapped her nose. “I will check your temperature often so that I’ll know when you’re ready.”
“Piece of cake,” she confirmed. It didn’t sound like such a big deal.
His grin accompanied him cocking his head to one side. He smoothed his hands down to her butt cheeks and parted them. “The thermometer goes inside your bottom, Little one.”
She gasped. “What?”
“You heard me. The only way to get an accurate reading is with a rectal thermometer. You will submit to me many times in the coming hours so I can keep tabs on your temperature.” He slid his fingers closer to her tight hole, spreading her open farther.
