Chapter 18

CHAPTER EIGHTEEN

LILITH

I smile at the prospect, whose name I now know is Logan, but he told me that I can just call him Prospect until he serves his time and hopefully becomes a full patched member like Jack and the other guys.

The prospect is helping me clean up the store after a very busy day. I sent home my staff, because only the cleaning was left to do, except for the candies that are cooling in the back. Once they are cool enough, I will powder them up and bag them for tomorrow.

I like to leave my store clean and ready for the next day. It has always made me anxious walking into an untidy store.

“We need to stop at the grocery store on the way to the clubhouse; there are some things I need to pick up so I can help Dominic with some snacks he wants to make,” I inform him, but he is already shaking his head at me.

“Jack has given strict instructions that we are to take you straight to the clubhouse after we finish here,” is his reply.

“But the both of you will be guarding me. I am sure it will be safe, just in and out,” I plead.

“No can do, sorry, Lil.”

“I will be quick, and you will be right by my side.” I pout, making him chuckle and smile.

Let me tell you what a smile it is. It lights up his handsome face, making his bright blue eyes shine. His dirty blond hair is in the style of what we call ‘hero hair’ and he has matching stubble. He is a man who the women swoon over when he smiles at them, but when he winks, I am sure there is not a dry pair of panties in the house.

“Sorry, but my patch is on the line, babe. I am sure that Risky or Farrah will have plenty of stuff at the club. Use that.”

“Stop being so freaking loyal, Logan,” I say in a teasing tone; he winks at me and continues sweeping.

He will make a great addition to the club when he gets patched in.

I wave to the other prospect, who has been outside all day keeping watch, then go into the back to finish up.

“I am going in the back to finish up the dreaded pots and pans.” He laughs as I walk away from him, leaving him to go do the jobs that he does not have to do.

I have noticed throughout today that Logan is shy, but it is clear he has a way with the women. He has a soft side to him and is more than happy to help anyone who needs it, but he can’t take a compliment. He blushes and it adds to his cuteness, not that I would say anything to Jack.

“Give me a shout if you need anything,” he calls to me.

When I enter the kitchen, I pick up my phone and select some music to play to help pass the time.

Filling the sink up with hot water, I soak the larger pan that I used for a big cake today, then I add some pans to the dishwasher, before I clean the surfaces. Everything needs to be cleaned because if you leave sticky melted sugar on anything for a long period of time, it is a nightmare to get off.

Once most of the cleaning is done, I check that the candies have cooled enough to be bagged up, ready to be sold tomorrow, making sure to take some bags with me, one each for the prospects and some for Dominic.

He asked for a specific flavor: strawberries and cream. He is a sucker for it.

I have been staying at the clubhouse for three days now, and so far, we have not had any incidents. I have had no phone calls, and no dead fish have popped up. There has been no word on Christopher. Maverick has been keeping an eye on him. He has been doing his same typical routine that he did with me: go to work, hit the gym, go home, and visit the many girlfriends that he has on the side.

I would say that I am sorry that he is doing this to Vanessa, but she knew what he was like when she slept with him while he was with me. Once a cheater, always a cheater.

A part of me is telling me to inform her of what he is doing, but another part of me is saying that karma is doing her work, and I also believe that Vanessa will just use this to attack me and say that I am jealous of their marriage.

Believe me I am not; I am glad that I have moved on with my life. To think about who else he would have been sleeping with if I had stayed all of this time… it also occurred to me that he may have children running around with the amount of women he has been sleeping with.

Walking over to the storage unit that houses all of my candy bags, I start bagging up the singular bags with candies. It doesn’t take me too long, as I am used to doing this. Setting the mini bags to one side ready for tomorrow, I sing along to the song on the radio and collect the trash from the three trash cans that I have in the kitchen.

Tying the bags closed, I lift them up, only taking two at a time as they are heavy. I know that I should call Logan to help me, but he is busy out front. Jack will not be happy with me not letting his guys know that I am leaving the store, even if it is only for a few short minutes.

I mean, what is the worst that can happen?

Struggling with the trash bags, I manage to open the door, and walk down the short alley to the large dumpsters that are collected each day. It is refreshing to see that the people in the area want to keep the place looking clean and tidy, especially since we are in a high tourist area.

Putting one bag on the ground, I push open the larger dumpster and heave up the bags one at a time. I make sure to close it, to make sure that no little animals get drawn to it or can get inside and eat what is in there.

I hear a scuffle behind me, and it gets my immediate attention, but before I can turn around to see what it is, a hand is placed over my mouth, silencing my call for help.

Well done, Lilith, now look what has happened.

Jack is going to be so mad at me for putting myself in this position.

“Quiet, bitch.” My eyes flash open at the familiar voice.

I stare into the muddy brown eyes of my ex, Christopher.

“You thought that fucking scumbag biker would stop me from getting to you? Wrong, sweetheart, you belong to me. I will always get to you.”

I struggle against his hold, but my back is slamming into the wall, and I cry out a muffled sound thanks to the firm grip he has on my face. I can feel the textured wall digging into my skin, and I pray that it doesn’t break the skin.

The look in Christopher’s eyes is cold and distant, a look that I have never seen before. Cocky, cunning, and slimy yes, but never cold and cruel like he is now. He has aways known what to say at the right time to make things better or worse, and I was stupid to fall for it for so long.

Seeing him like this makes my heart hurt that I wasted so much time on him.

I shake my head to dislodge his hand and when he eventually pulls his hand back, I ask him what I want to know.

“Why are you doing this, Christopher?” I cry, tears flowing down my face; there is no way I can stop them.

He smirks and, for once, I see the cruel man behind it, not the handsome man I once thought he was.

“You do not get to leave me, sweetheart. Only I say when it is over.” He leans in, dragging his nose up my neck and jawline, making me shiver in disgust.

My stomach swirls, ready to puke all over him.

“I have been watching you, baby. I learned that you have been letting that dirty piece of shit stick his dick in what belongs to me.”

“Belongs to you? You cheated on me, repeatedly; you married my cousin, for fuck’s sake.” Anger builds at his words but also a vile feeling fills my veins thinking of the other women he slept with.

“You never wanted me, Christopher. You liked the idea of having a doll on your arm who is obedient, and fucks like a dead fish— your words, remember?”

“Watch your mouth. You never spoke such vile words when you were with me. He is poisoning you.”

I laugh, my eyes narrowing while I look at him.

He is freaking out of his mind if he thinks that Jack is ruining me. Well, he is, but in a good way; he is making sure that I do not leave him because he owns my heart and body.

Christopher is all about ego and power, so I know what to say that will piss him off. I know that I should not taunt him, but I am tired of him and others thinking they can walk all over me. I pull my shoulders back, then look him right in the eyes.

I pull in as much fake bravado as I can, then I speak my mind.

“No. He is making me feel things that you never could. When Jack fucks me he makes me scream his name in pure ecstasy. You are an afterthought, buddy. Now go back to your wife, I am sure that she is wondering where you are.”

He snarls at me, the one side of his lip curls at my words but I hold firm. I cannot let him see that he is getting to me anymore, he thrives on it.

“My wife is not your concern, but who you fuck is, or should I say shacking up with. I see that boy.” My body freezes at the mention of Dominic. “He is a cute kid. I bet that with the right threats and pressure he will roll over on the club, even his daddy. It is always the young ones who you can get to bend and shape into little tattletales.” He grins like he is proud of himself for using young kids to do his dirty work.

“You leave him alone,” I whimper, my bravado, even as fake as it was, slips down the drain close by.

Christopher chuckles darkly, making my stomach twist tightly.

“Nah, sweetheart, I don’t think I will, unless you leave that biker and take my cock again.”

“You have a wife,” I whisper. “Leave me alone. Please,” I plead with him.

My back is pressing against the wall even though he is no longer holding me to it. I still feel trapped by him.

“Fucking my wife is sticking my cock into an overused dry piece of piping. Unlike you, baby.” He brings his hand up cupping my cheek, and I flinch away but his fingers tighten. “You took my cock so well, and you were always so tight for me. Fuck, I need that again, or these pouty lips wrapped around my dick. I wonder what your boyfriend would say about that.” He hums, moving his head closer.

Before he makes contact, someone calls my name.

“Out here,” I call out, praying that Logan comes to help me.

Christopher steps back; he looks to the door then back to me, and his grin widens.

“I will be seeing you and that boy soon, sweetheart.” He gently slaps my cheek twice before darting down the alley and out of sight. The door swings open and my body sags seeing Logan.

“Lil, what happened, are you okay?” He rushes to me, as he scans the area.

“I need Jack now.”

With a nod, his arm slips around my shoulders and he leads me back inside, still checking for any danger.

“What happened?”

“My ex,” is all I say.

He mutters a curse, and leads me through the shop, collecting my purse as we go. He digs through my purse for the keys to lock up, the other prospect meeting us at the door with a frown on his face.

“Why does she look freaked out?” he asks, stepping close to guard me.

“Her fucking ex turned up. Cornered her out back,” Logan states.

“How? I have been patrolling front and back, I never saw anyone.” He looks pissed that Christopher got past him.

“No clue, man, but we need to get her to Jack now,” Logan informs him.

He replies with a nod and they both guide me to the truck and help me inside.

On the drive to the clubhouse, I try to calm my rapidly beating heart, but I fail.

Dominic’s face flashes through my mind. The sweet innocent boy being used by a man like my ex makes my stomach turn queasy. He is a vile human being for what he is doing. How can a person who swore to serve and protect the people turn around and use them for his own gain?

It makes me sick to my stomach thinking that I was planning on marrying this man, having children with him. I cannot fathom what he would have been like as a father to our children. I shiver in disgust at the thought.

The idea of him using Dominic hurts my heart. I know that he would never say anything against his father or his family. The club is his life, even at a young age, Dominic Masters lives and breathes the Rugged Skulls.

What I have been saying since the start is that I am bringing this drama to the club, to Jack and his family. I can’t let that happen, and leaving is the best option to keep them all safe. Knowing Christopher is like a dog with a bone, he will not give up until he wins.

With my mind made up about leaving, I settle back into the seat and think about whether I am going to tell Jack, or if it would be better to just leave, then let him know that I am safe for now and I will come back to town when Christopher has moved on from his stupid ideology that I am his.

To keep Jack, Dominic, and the club safe, I need to leave. It is that simple.
