Chapter 19
Jagger
W hen Jackie said there was a lady inside who confirmed Blur was there, I felt a fire ignite inside me. I didn’t want anything to happen to the woman, but if she was involved in any way, then she was going to suffer the same fate as him.
“How do we approach without them seeing us?” Animal asked.
“What if I go back and tell her I’m having car issues? You can approach from the sides, and if I see an opening, I can yank her out and you can attack,” Jackie suggested.
I didn’t like the thought of her getting caught in the crossfire, but it was the only way we were going to get to Blur.
“If anyone has any other idea, then let’s hear it. If not, we need to get her out of there,” Jackie demanded.
“I don’t like it, but it may be the only way,” Roughstock replied, and I saw the look he gave me.
No one wanted Jackie in the middle, and we would both be up shit creek if she got hurt. I was just about to warn her when the sound of a scream echoed around us. Jackie went to turn and run when I grabbed her and pulled her behind me. Phantom ran to the edge of the trees and looked around before he turned back to us.
He nodded to us, and I looked at Jackie. “Stay behind us and help the woman only if you’re not in danger.”
She exhaled and nodded before the five of us began to move toward the front of the trailers. When we were clear of the trees, the scene playing out in front of us was almost too much to witness. Blur, still wearing his Royal Bastards cut, was dragging the young woman by her hair. He was yelling something at her as he pulled her from the trailer and toward the wrecked cars.
“Blur,” Roughstock yelled, and the fucker turned to see us approaching fast. His eyes grew wide, and he tried to run, only for the woman to trip him with her foot.
When we were about fifteen feet from them, I saw Blur crawl to the woman and pull a knife out of his pocket. He placed it against her throat as he warned, “Don’t come any closer or I’ll slit this bitch’s throat.”
Tears streamed from her eyes as she looked at us to help her, but with Blur using her as a shield, I didn’t see how she would get out of this unscathed. Her eyes darted between all of us, and I felt Jackie place her hand onto my back before she stepped out, allowing Blur to see her.
“You,” he spat and pointed the knife at Jackie. “This is all your fault, you stupid cunt. If you hadn’t been so damn nosy, none of this would be happening.”
“Fuck you, asshole. This is all on you,” Jackie returned, and I saw a fire igniting in her that made my dick lurch. “You were the one who decided kidnapping women and selling them for money was the right thing to do, so anything that happens to you is your own fucking fault.”
“Careful, little warrior,” I whispered, not wanting her to piss him off to the point he’d hurt the woman.
“I want a way out of here, or I swear, I’ll kill her,” he threatened as he pushed to his knees, forcing the woman to shield him.
He stumbled to his feet as he pulled the woman against his front with the knife pressed to the side of her neck. He licked her cheek, and she shivered and cried more as he leered at Jackie.
“I should’ve taken you when I had the chance. I had a buyer all lined up for you, but fucking Nitro had to get nosy,” Blur spat as he shifted, trying to keep concealed behind the woman.
She was terrified as Blur kept shifting, trying to get closer to the wrecked cars. Something told me he was looking for a way out, but there was no way he was escaping his reckoning from us. He’d killed our former president, and he was going to pay.
“Let the girl go and we can talk about this,” Roughstock reasoned, and Blur laughed at him, causing me to see red.
“There’s no way I’m gonna trust you to not attack as soon as you have the girl. I know you, boy, and you’re no president. You don’t have the balls to come after me. Not with National watching my back,” Blur chided.
Roughstock turned around so Blur could see his cut before he turned back to face him. “I told Jamison and the Royal Bastards to go fuck themselves, so your threats and protection mean nothing here.”
“You’re lying. There’s no way you’d patch over and piss off the Bastards.”
I laughed and explained, “I don’t think you understand, you stupid fucker. We’re no longer the Royal Bastards. We patched over six months ago to the Sinners Revenge, after you decided to use your family to hide behind.”
“How . . . how do you know about that?” he asked, and I could tell reality was starting to hit him hard.
“All it took was a little digging to find out your bio mom was bailed out by Jamison’s father’s first cousin. I’m assuming he’s your father, or maybe another one of Jamison’s kin. Either way, you’re in North Dakota, motherfucker. New Orleans is a long way from here, and I don’t see any Bastards here to save your sorry ass,” Roughstock warned, and Blur began to deflate.
None of us made a move closer to him, but when his arm began to lower as the woman moved her head to the side, something flew past me and lodged in his shoulder.
“Fuck,” Blur yelled as he dropped the knife to hold his injury.
The woman ran straight to us, and Jackie caught her as we rushed to secure Blur. The knife Cheyenne gave to Jackie was sticking out of his shoulder, buried to the hilt, and when I looked up, Jackie was checking out the woman for injuries.
Roughstock and Phantom punched Blur a few times as Animal and I secured his arms with zip-ties. Hoisting him back to his feet, he began to bargain with us, knowing his life was going to end soon.
“I can tell you where the women are,” he tried to bargain, only for the woman to yell over at him.
“He’s a liar. Everyone he took is already dead, so don’t believe a thing he says to you.”
“Shut up, Laura,” Blur warned, and I punched him in the stomach, causing him to double over as Jackie led the woman away from us.
“You don’t have to kill me,” Blur pleaded.
Roughstock leaned closer to him and lowered his voice as he replied, “And you didn’t have to kill my father, but you did, so it’s time for justice.”
“I have information you want . . . about the Bastards,” he tried to say, only for Phantom to punch him in the mouth, causing blood to pour from his lips.
“Jagger,” Jackie said, and I turned and walked to her and Laura, “Laura said there are two women being held here.”
“Where are they?” I asked, and she pointed to the cars.
“There’s a hatch in the front of the green truck. It leads to an underground bunker, and that’s where he put them day before yesterday,” she said through tremors.
“I need to get her something to drink. Do you think it would be okay if I take her inside while you deal with everything out here?” Jackie asked.
“That should be fine,” I returned and watched them walk up to the dilapidated trailer and climb the wonky stairs before disappearing inside.
Blur was still running his mouth, trying to talk his way out of his imminent death when I returned. Grabbing the handle of the knife, I twisted it and said, “You have one chance to be honest. Where are the two women you took a few days ago?”
“What women?” he yelled, and I twisted the knife harder, feeling tendons and muscle tear under the sharp blade.
“Wrong answer, motherfucker,” Animal responded and kicked him between his legs, causing him to fall to his knees and vomit.
I motioned for Roughstock to follow me, and after locating the green truck, I began running my foot through the dirt and snow to find the entryway. I felt something hard under my foot and leaned over to grab the handle from the flat plate. Lifting with all my strength, Roughstock helped me, and as we opened the door and descended the stairs, we pulled out our guns, just in case we were ambushed.
The stairs led down to a small room, not much bigger than a tornado shelter, and sitting huddled together were two crying women. Using the flashlight on my phone, I illuminated the room beyond the single bulb hanging from the ceiling as Roughstock spoke to the women.
“My name is Trent, and this is my friend, Lincoln. We’re here to take you home.”
They seemed unsure, so I turned around and showed them the back of my cut before I turned back to them. “We’re not a part of anything that man who took you is, and if you’ll let us, we’d like to get you out of here. My wife is upstairs and is here to help.”
That was the second time I’d referred to Jackie as my wife, and I liked the way it sounded. Roughstock looked at me as we helped the girls up the stairs and into the light. They didn’t have shoes on, and the snow was piled up around the door, so I looked at them and asked, “Can I help?”
The younger girl nodded with tears in her eyes, so I carefully picked her up under her legs and back and carried her past the junk cars and into the clearing Blur wasn’t there, but I could hear Phantom and Animal with someone on the other side of the trailers, so I knew they had moved him away from the girls. Turning, I was prepared to get the other girl when Roughstock carried her out.
Jackie and Laura walked out, and instantly, Jackie ran up to the young girls and ushered them back to the trailer. The look in her eyes was murderous, but she was focused on getting the women taken care of.
And that left us with Blur. By the time we left this property, Blur would be a bad memory of an ex-brother who died. Nothing more.
And if Jamison had a problem with that, then he could drag his ass up here to the Dakotas and deal with us directly. But I didn’t expect to hear from the Bastards again after we killed Blur.
That didn’t mean I wasn’t going to mail them a little present.
