Evan
Evan
V ada opened the door, a wicked smile filling her face upon seeing me. I wanted to wrap my hands around her throat and throttle her, but instead, I managed to restrain myself.
“We need to talk.”
“Sure, we do, Evan... come on in,” Vada said breezily, opening the door wide enough so I could walk past her.
Her apartment smelt sickly sweet, too much perfume and air fresheners for my liking. The sofa was littered with laundry, and I daren’t guess if they were clean or dirty. I scanned the room before meeting her eyes as she folded her arms, a look of confusion on her face.
“I’ve missed you,” Vada whispered, moving closer to me as I stiffened, putting a hand up between us.
“I haven’t missed you. Frankly, I’m here about the email you sent me regarding Jain and me.”
Her eyes narrowed before she exhaled loudly, folding her arms defensively over her chest.
“Did you really think no one knew you were fucking her?” Vada spat, her anger beginning to show. I raised an eyebrow at her, making her even more furious.
“You aren’t holier than thou, Evan. You think you are, but you’re not. Once her mother knew about you and her—”
I stared at her, my mouth opening in disbelief.
“You told her mother?”
Vada sighed, walking away towards her bedroom, leaving me no option but to follow. She peeled off her dress, making me avert my eyes uncomfortably as she began to pull on her jogging bottoms.
“You’ve seen this all before, Evan, don’t act like you didn’t enjoy every inch of me.”
I continued to stare at the floor, turning to face the other way when she pushed past me, thankfully dressed.
“Yes, I told her mother. She was eighteen , Evan. She was your student. What you were doing was wrong,” she continued, dragging all the clothes from the sofa into a basket by her feet. “But then she left, and you were heartbroken. Luckily, I was there to distract you. Oh, and distract you, I did.” She threw her head back as she laughed, turning back to throw me a sultry look over her shoulder. “Remember your desk after the Christmas fayre—”
“I’d rather not,” I interrupted, making a face at the memory. She scowled before flopping down onto the sofa. She was an essentially attractive woman, but she was nothing compared to Jain. Whereas Vada was all tits and teeth, Jain was demure and classy.
“What are you aiming to get from this?” I asked bluntly, refusing her offer to sit.
“Get out of what? I’m just doing the right thing. She was eighteen, and your student—”
“I know. I was there.” I snapped, feeling my anger rising. “But she’s not now. Why are you doing this? Do you think that this will make me fall in love with you?”
Vada blinked before shaking her head in disbelief. “This isn’t about you, Evan. I’m not interested in you. I, too, have someone younger attending to my needs.” She examined her fingernails before looking back at me with boredom. “Except I waited until he left school to fuck him.”
“So, what’s it about then?” I pressed, ignoring her invitation to discuss her new beau.
“Julian wants to marry Jain. He loves her and knows you are just some sexual fantasy she needs to fuck out of her system,” Vada explained before the doorbell rang. Her eyes widened with excitement, and I watched her cross over to open the front door.
“Hey, baby.” I heard a deep voice growl as Vada began kissing the stranger at the door. I shook my head, aware I wasn’t going to get anything further from her now. I didn’t care to watch her fuck some random either, so I went to move past them.
“Oh, Mr Silver, long time no see.” I heard the young man say as I closed my eyes with annoyance.
“Arden,” I acknowledged him before going to move past him once again.
“How’s Jain?”
I stopped, turning around to see him grinning at me with that panty-dropping smile of his. He was older now but still as handsome as he had been years ago. The only difference now was the age in his eyes—I knew that he had experienced life in the fast lane a few times.
“Stop talking about Jain ,” Vada hissed as he began to focus his attention back on her.
“Vada, answer me one thing,” I muttered as Arden continued to kiss her throat. “Did you tell Julian that Jain was with me that night?”
Vada frowned before rolling her eyes.
“Fuck off, Evan. I’m busy.”
She moved her mouth to meet Arden’s, and I shook my head, wanting to get out of there as soon as possible. I let the door slam behind me before jogging back down to my car.
Vada had seemed disinterested when I asked her that—which I supposed could be an act. But something told me she wasn’t lying, and I needed to find out how Julian knew Jain’s whereabouts. Something in my stomach didn’t sit right, and I needed to know what it was.
One thing was for sure, though.
I wasn’t leaving Jain for shit.
