T he gunshot echoes through the collapsing facility.
Then silence.
Kade’s body hits the floor hard beside the shattered terminal.
And somehow—
That feels too small for a man who destroyed so many lives.
No dramatic final speech.
No victory.
Just blood spreading across broken concrete while the empire he built dies around him.
Good.
The facility lurches violently sideways.
WARNING: CORE COLLAPSE IMMINENT
The reactor alarms scream through the compound.
Sienna gasps sharply beside me.
The glow beneath her skin flickers violently.
“Sienna—”
“I’m okay,” she lies instantly.
Blood runs down the side of her face.
Her knees buckle.
I catch her before she hits the floor.
Definitely not okay.
The speakers crackle softly.
Lily’s frightened voice shakes through the static.
“It’s getting dark…”
Sienna immediately looks toward the monitors despite barely being conscious.
“Lily,” she whispers. “Stay with me.”
The little girl appears on-screen again.
Crying openly now.
The servers behind her failing one by one.
Lights dying across the chamber.
Noah stands beside her now.
Holding her hand.
Oh thank God.
Aaron must’ve reached them.
“We found her,” Aaron says through comms, breathing hard. “She’s alive.”
Relief hits Sienna so hard tears spill instantly down her cheeks.
“Okay,” she whispers shakily. “Okay…”
Then the entire building shakes again.
A massive explosion tears through the lower levels.
Concrete rains from the ceiling.
Elizabeth screams.
“VALE!”
The comms erupt with static.
Then Vale’s voice comes through calmly.
Too calmly.
“I’m at the core.”
Elizabeth breaks instantly.
“No—please—”
Lance catches her before she collapses.
“You don’t have to do this!” she sobs.
Vale is quiet for one long second.
And when he finally speaks—
His voice sounds human for the first time since we met him.
“Yes,” he whispers. “I do.”
The room stills.
The reactor warning spikes.
CRITICAL FAILURE IN 90 SECONDS
Vale continues softly through the comms.
“I kept telling myself survival justified everything.”
Elizabeth cries harder.
“I know.”
“But every day…” His voice roughens slightly. “Every day I watched children suffer because I was too afraid to stop him.”
The building groans around us.
The walls literally beginning to split apart.
And still nobody moves.
Because this matters.
“You deserved better than all of this,” Vale whispers.
Elizabeth shakes violently in Lance’s arms.
“Please come back…”
Silence.
Then—
“I’m sorry.”
The comm cuts.
Gone.
Elizabeth screams his name.
Because in her mind, he protected her.
And somewhere deep below us—
The reactor core detonates.
The explosion rips through the compound like the wrath of God.
The floor caves inward.
Flames roar through the lower levels.
And every monitor in the facility suddenly lights white.
Not red.
White.
Oracle’s voice echoes softly through the building one final time.
Not cold.
Not mechanical.
Peaceful.
“Goodbye, Lily.”
The lights die instantly after.
The neural glow vanishes from Sienna’s eyes.
Her body goes limp in my arms.
My heart stops.
“Sienna?”
No response.
No no no—
I grab her face desperately.
“Sienna!”
A weak breath escapes her lips.
Thank God.
Outside the collapsing hallway—
Ronan appears through smoke and debris carrying Noah while Aaron has Lily wrapped tightly in his arms. The other children follow.
The little blonde girl sees Sienna instantly.
“SIENNA!”
Aaron barely gets her down before she runs toward us.
I scoop Sienna into my arms immediately.
“We’re leaving. NOW.”
Cal and Lance start moving fast.
Lance grabs Elizabeth.
Aaron secures Lily against his side again as the child clings desperately to Sienna’s unconscious hand.
The facility is collapsing around us now.
Entire sections imploding.
Fire roaring through the corridors.
The nightmare finally dying.
We run.
Through smoke.
Through falling concrete.
Through screaming alarms and collapsing steel.
And just before we reach the final exit—
The entire Oracle facility explodes behind us.
