Chapter 6
CHAPTER SIX
At first I thought I was stepping foot into the largest greenhouse ever, but quickly realized this was some sort of habitat.
“Oh my god, you do have alligators.”
He chuckled and stepped beside me. “No.”
“This is…how many square feet is this?”
“Well, the entire apartment is upwards of twenty thousand square feet so—”
“Holy shit!”
Landry snorted. “Most of this floor is for all you see here.”
“But why?” I faced him “This is like a habitat, right?”
Landry’s smile started small and grew. “You’re a smart man, Jay.” He shoved his hands in his pockets. “I’d like to tell you a story if you’d allow.”
I shrugged. “If it explains all of this then I’d be very happy to know it.”
“It will.” He gestured forward. “Walk with me.”
The air was thick and sweat began dripping down my back and beaded across my forehead, but I followed Landry, all the while taking in the remarkable lush vegetation.
“This story starts over one hundred and fifty-seven million years ago.”
“Wow.” I chuckled nervously, watching as Landry began unbuttoning his shirt.
“Yes, wow. Some would later refer to it as the Jurassic period.”
“Like dinosaurs?”
He nodded. “Exactly.” He stopped by a small boulder and sat. “Dinosaurs were the rulers of Earth, not for money or anything that Earth stands for now.”
“Yeah, then an asteroid hit and boom, right?”
He huffed and appeared relaxed. “Something like that. But you know what no one ever knew?”
“What?”
“Not all dinosaurs died that day. What if I told you the stories scientists, teachers, people in general told you about dinosaurs wasn’t all true?”
“Landry, what kind of story is this and why are you stripping?”
He held up a finger. “Not for the reasons you think. What I’m going to tell you and show you won’t be for the faint of heart and very well might make you decide you never want to see me again.”
“Then why have me here?” The need to run was growing by the minute but curiosity kept me planted to my spot by a small stream. Seriously, how’d he do this in a penthouse?
“Because you’re my mate.”
“Your…what?” A laugh bubbled out of me.
His shirt slid from his shoulders.
“I could give you an entire scientific explanation that will mean very little to you, and, no insult to your intelligence but it wouldn’t make sense to you. Or I can tell you that dinosaurs never left, we evolved. We discovered, in crisis, that we had a second skin.” He motioned to his body.
“We?”
“Oh good, you caught that.” He stood, undid his pants and they fell to the floor. I wanted to enjoy the gorgeous man in front of me but he was freaking me out.
“Landry, why am I here, what is going on? Just fucking say it because it’s what you’re not saying that’s scaring me.”
“I’ll show you but, Jay, I promise I won’t hurt you. You have to believe me.”
I narrowed my eyes and stared into his. Fear trembled through his body but something else was there too. I believed Landry.
“Ok, Landry. I’ll trust you.”
“Step back, Jay.”
I did as asked until my back hit a tree…a fucking tree. Then Landry divested himself of his final piece of clothing...his briefs. His cock was impressive and lay flaccid. So this wasn’t about sex. I quirked a brow and got a smile in return.
“Hopefully in time, Jay. Now take a deep breath and please don’t run.”
I opened my mouth to speak but was rendered speechless as a slight shimmer ran over Landry’s body and his skin began to change in color.
“Holy shit.”
Later, if someone asked me to explain what I saw I wouldn’t be able to find the words. One minute a sexy as sin man stood in front of me and the next he morphed, if that would be the right word, into an honest to god fucking dinosaur!
He still stood on two feet…claws? His arms, if that’s what you’d call them, were shorter.
His coloring was green, brown, and a golden underside.
He had to be about twenty feet long and both sleek and scaley…
maybe. When he cocked his long head at me, eyes the same majestic kaleidoscope of colors stared.
His teeth…fuck, they were like white razors and there was no doubt in my mind that if I ran, he’d be on me in a second tearing through me like tissue paper.
He took a step forward and I instinctively moved back. “I won’t run,” I whispered. And even I couldn’t understand why I wasn’t. Fear, amazement, and a lot of other words were coursing through my mind. I was considering the fact I hadn’t pissed myself a win.
“You’re a dinosaur…how?”
This time when he came toward me I didn’t move. I kept my arms to my side and the closer he came the more I tried not to actually look him in the eyes. I wasn’t going to challenge a dinosaur for dominance. He can be the alpha, I just didn’t want him to eat me.
When he was an inch from my face I closed my eyes, silently praying. A smooth cool feeling brushed across my cheek. A whisper of air danced through my hair. He was close, touching…oh please don’t eat me.
I took a deep breath, I could smell earth, the water, and Landry.
“Open your eyes, Jason.”
When I did he was slipping on his briefs. I whipped my head around. There was no sign of the dinosaur but as I stopped and watched Landry redress, I realized the dinosaur was still there.
“I’m sure you have a hundred questions about—”
“More, more than a hundred.”
He smirked. “You’re taking this really well.”
I shook my head. “I’m not sure if maybe my brain is protecting my fragile psyche right now or maybe it’s a dream?”
“It’s not a dream.”
Looking over my shoulder I saw the doors, the ones leading me out of this habitat and maybe to forgetting any of this happened. Did I want to forget?
When I glanced back over at Landry, who was now fully dressed and watching me, I realized this wasn’t something he had done lightly. No, I couldn’t run. I had to understand not only how the hell this was possible, but why me, and why he thought I was his mate.
“I could do with a strong drink right about now.”
Landry visibly relaxed and smiled. “Let’s go downstairs and I’ll get that for you.”
Once again, I found myself following the man.
