Epilogue

Good Morning, Des Moines

Transcript

Maria: Viewers may remember our next guests from their sweet viral videos last year. A lost winning lottery ticket, a donut shop, and a love story we all fell for. Welcome back, Sybil and Kieran.

Sybil: Thank you for having us on the show again.

Maria: Now, it’s been quite a year for you two. What’s changed since then?

SYBIL & Kieran: [ chuckle ]

Kieran: Is “everything” a fair answer?

Sybil: He’s not wrong. We’re still in Des Moines, but yes, a lot has changed!

Maria: Sybil, you’ve started a nonprofit to help local families. Can you tell us about it?

Sybil: The Rosie Foundation is named for Kieran’s grandmother. It’s dedicated to supporting housing and food insecurity for metro families. Kieran and I have seen the impact support can have, and right now, we’re working with the Pennsylvania Street Shelter to raise funds for their expansion. So far, we’ve raised two point six million dollars, and you can join us this weekend in getting to our goal of three and a half million.

Maria: See the event information on the bottom of the screen. What a wonderful initiative. And so important. And, Kieran, when you’re not supporting Sybil’s philanthropy work, you’ve been busy as well?

Kieran: Yes, I will begin a graduate program in biomedical science in a couple months.

Sybil: He’s going to be an incredible medical researcher, answering the big questions.

Maria: Wow! You’re one busy couple. And what about Joe’s Donuts?

Kieran: We sold the shop—it was time for someone else to take over.

Sybil: It’s called the M-Shop now. There’s no better lunch spot in town.

Kieran: My granddad always wants to eat there, which is high praise for Marcus, the chef and owner.

Maria: I notice a little sparkle on your hand, Sybil. Anything else you want to share?

Sybil: Oh, yes. We got engaged last night, actually.

Maria: Wow! Congratulations! Want to tell us about the proposal?

Sybil: Well…

Kieran: You know…

Sybil: So much of our relationship was public, I think we’d rather keep that story just for us.

Maria: Totally understand. Well, we’re glad you could join us again in the studio, and viewers can stop by the M-Shop for lunch and consider supporting the Rosie Foundation.

Up next, our news team has information about a local education company that is under new leadership and a wave of people adopting hedgehogs from the West Coast to keep as pets, plus more fun things to do as we move into spring. Stay tuned.

Crew: We’re clear.

Maria: Thanks again for coming back. Sybil, you’re almost a regular guest now, and we got so many calls after the interview we did with you and others about seeking an ADHD diagnosis as an adult. I read the book you mentioned that your friend gave you, the one you said helped some pieces fall into place, and women viewers especially responded so strongly to you saying what it meant to have another lens to understand yourself.

Sybil: That segment was great. I still talk to the other three women. Jasmine and I have actually discovered a shared love of go-kart racing. We’re going later this weekend.

Kieran: [ laughs ] She’s a natural speed demon. Everyone knows to watch out.

Sybil: Hey, now. Don’t be salty just because you’re too scared to compete with me.

Kieran: You’re right. I couldn’t keep up. Happy to cheer from the sidelines.

Maria: [ laughs ] You’re a good match.

Kieran: We’re lucky to have found each other.

Sybil: Very lucky.
