CHAPTER FORTY-FOUR
RAINA
Athena points at her phone.
I glance at Bella and she mouths ‘phone’ to me, so I get mine out, although I have no idea what they’re up to.
I notice a message in our group chat, so I open it.
Athena: Trust me, Luca is listening, he’s always listening.
Bella: He’s annoying like that.
Me: Okay. So what’s up?
Athena: How’s the sex?
Me: What?
Bella giggles beside me trying hard to be quiet.
Bella: Please don’t say you aren’t getting the ‘D’.
Oh my God.
Me: Yes?
Athena: Details, woman. Bella and I are in a disagreement over which Bonetti brother has the biggest dick.
She holds up her arm and then begins to type.
Athena: Bigger or smaller than my forearm?
Me: Is this a trick question?
Bella: Nope. Bigger or smaller?
Jesus, he’s not a goddamn elephant.
Me: Smaller.
Athena: Bigger or smaller than a coke can?
Me: Bigger?
Bella: Are we talking girth or length?
A growl, sounding like the voice of God, booms, and we all turn to find Bones narrowing his gaze at her.
“Butterfly.”
Of course the other brothers come out of the kitchen, curious what’s going on, and I am pretty sure I visibly shrink.
“Our women apparently want to know which of us has the bigger dick.”
Psycho laughs in a way that I think is rare for him.
“Definitely me. I’m happy to show and tell, ladies.”
Reaper, Kage, and Bones all turn toward him with matching scowls.
“Fuck off,” they say in unison, and it’s funny how alike those grumpy faces are. All three of them have a chiseled jawline that looks like the others’. Psycho, I couldn’t tell you, because I look at him as little as possible.
“So, Raina. Talk to any prosecutors lately?”
And that’s why.
Bones orders him to stop, and he does, for the most part. Still, he spends the majority of the evening watching me, like at any minute I’m going to destroy his entire world. I do understand why he’s worried. He doesn’t trust me, and I don’t think trust comes easily to any of these men.
“Mom is coming over tomorrow,” Kage says.
He had mentioned that she wanted to come for a visit, but I didn’t know it was a done deal.
Athena smiles at me.
“You’re going to love her.”
I turn to Lorenzo and ask the obvious question.
“Does she know my last name?”
He kisses me on the cheek and whispers in my ear, “She does, and I promise you, it won’t matter to her. My dad would’ve cared, but my mom does not.”
Bella rolls her eyes, cuddling up to Reaper when he sits beside her.
“As long as you’re a fan of her chocolate cake she’ll love you.”
Kage grins at me, because he knows how I feel about chocolate cake.
I wonder about his words. His mom will love me? What about him? He said he loved me before everything happened, but not since then. I can’t help but worry that he doesn’t feel the same, and is with me because of the baby.
“It has been a long day for Raina. We’re going to head out,” Kage announces, and I’m exhausted, so I’m kind of glad, but also sad to leave my new friends.
Sharing the sentiment, Bella and Athena jump up and hug me.
Athena says, “I’ll message you on the group chat.”
Bones stares at her with a smirk.
“There will be consequences.”
Athena smiles wide, and I can’t help but laugh as she says, “I’m getting spanked.”
“Butterfly,” Bones warns, but it only makes us laugh harder.
“Come on, Firecracker.”
Kage takes my hand and walks me out, leaving the loud voices behind.
