Chapter 42 #2
He threw back his head and roared the words, then centred his focus back on me. “Is that public enough?”
He loved me. The trembling extended throughout me, overwhelming emotion taking the wheel. I pressed my fingertips to my mouth.
Kane wasn’t done. “Give me the thirty days we get from the game to prove I want it all with ye. To find all the words I need to say. The last few days have been hell. I did that to us. It’s my fault, and I owe you for everything I’ve put you through. I want ye back. I need it. Let me fix this.”
“Promise me one thing.”
“Anything.”
I held his gaze, lost in those beautiful grey eyes. “I have to know what you’re thinking. Don’t hide your emotions from me. I can’t bear it.”
The couple closest to us groaned with the satisfaction of contact, the man grinding down, others close to them complaining about their loss. Somewhere further away, a masculine cry gave up couple number three.
Two men stalked closer. Still on his knees, Kane didn’t look away.
“Desperate for ye. Fucking horny. So out of my mind in love that if I can’t have ye now, I’ll murder every man in this basement.”
The stalkers paused then pivoted away.
I’d asked for emotion and I was getting it. Even if it was tinged with violence, that was Kane. And I was done resisting.
With a sob, I threw myself at him. He growled with desperate possession and enclosed me in his huge arms, the tight hold giving way to the rearranging of clothes. Kane put me on my back on the concrete with his hand under my head and his big body between my thighs.
I didn’t care that there were people watching us. The cameras blinking. Lone men around the basement. Everything disappeared but him.
His thrust into me obliterated every sense that wasn’t Kane-shaped.
I moaned when he moved in my body, the thick weight of him an experience I never thought I’d have again. I was so ready for him, the fit so perfect. He filled me again and again, pleasure spilling through me, and the aching void he’d left replaced by happiness.
“Tell me you mean it,” I begged.
Kane kissed me, his tongue sliding over mine so his takeover of my body was complete. He drove me to the point where I felt I was about to break, then dropped his mouth to my ear. “I’m. In love. With ye.”
“Swear you’re mine.”
“Only yours. I only ever have been. All yours.”
My climax smashed me senseless. Kane groaned as he joined me, thickening inside me with each pulse of his orgasm. I clamped my limbs around him to keep him with me.
Mine. My man.
Another scream of pleasure gave up couple number five. All of us women were claimed, and a second buzzer sounded, earning howls of grievance from the remaining men.
Those left standing anyway.
Kane lifted off me, careful to tug my dress back down before he tucked himself away. Then he collected me in his arms, bride style. I swapped smiles with Wendy in her lover’s arms, my eyes widening at the litter of bodies left behind.
“You did that.”
Kane’s wolfish grin set my heart racing all over again.
At the exit to the warehouse, a cheer went up when the first couple emerged, the woman with wavy black hair naked and sobbing into her man’s shoulder. A sleek limo was waiting for them, and they ducked inside, the driver slamming the door after them.
The second couple was still going at it against the warehouse’s wall when their car cruised to a halt.
Kane pressed a kiss to my cheek. “I have no home to take ye to. I don’t even have a job anymore.”
“I have a whole house for us to hide away in. Can we go to mine?”
His slow, cautious nod hurt my fragile heart.
Then a thought made it through the haze of lust and need. “There’s something I have to do first.”
I looked around for the skeleton crew. Near the exit, Convict and Shade monitored the crowd.
I raised an eyebrow at Convict. “Did our trap work?”
He had the good grace to show his guilt but inclined his head. “Like a charm.”
Kane’s forehead furrowed with deep lines. “Trap?”
“I wasn’t in there to be claimed. I was supposed to get out before the game started. But no one came for me.”
Convict poked his tongue into his cheek and nudged Shade. “Seems to me that Kane did exactly that.”
The enforcer uttered a dark laugh. “We have your man locked in a room. Leave him there and go home. He’ll keep.”
“Is it who we expected?”
“Bang on the money. Funny how no raid happened after all.”
Kane held me tighter. “I need to know what’s going on.”
“We set a trap for Lyle, and he walked straight into it.” The man couldn’t resist an opportunity to police me. I switched my attention back to Convict. “Did he get to see us?”
“We let him watch the start then cut him off when Kane was done proposing.”
I guessed it had looked like a proposal, with him being on his knees and me falling into a tearful hug. If that didn’t kill off any lingering romance on Lyle’s side, nothing would.
Kane squeezed me. “When I beg for your hand, it won’t be in front of a room full of strangers fighting to fuck ye.”
I buried my face in his neck and breathed. He’d said when. I was in love with that word. “Take me home?”
“I thought you’d never ask.” He twisted back to Shade. “Will I be welcome here tomorrow?”
Shade shrugged. “Talk when you’ve come up for air.”
Outside in the night, Kane carried me to his car, buckled me in, then wheel-spun out of the car park, leaving the raucous crowd behind us.
I’d gone into the game to catch a stalker. Somehow, I’d left it with a boyfriend.
