Chapter 45 #2
Pulling my phone, I start through the texts there.
The first one isn’t a surprise. Oliver and his sister are gone, it turns out the woman Butcher brought along was the one Oliver was searching for and in the madness after the fight they have disappeared.
I hesitate, should I ask them to search for them?
However, when I glance back at Bexley, I decide to let them go to live their lives, just like we are hoping to do.
Neo
“Where’s my sister?” comes a yell, and then the door bursts open. Taylor pushes me out of the way, ordering, “Move, asshole.” When she reaches Bexley’s side, a choked sob leaves her throat. “Bex,” she whispers, “what did they do to you?”
I have no idea how she got through the mob, but judging by the furious look in her frantic eyes, they probably simply got out of her way. Like Bexley, Taylor can be terrifying when she wants to be, and there’s nothing scarier than a woman when it comes to her family.
“She’s going to be okay,” I say as softly as I can. I check my texts to find that Dodge sent some guards with her, and Lauren is with him at the house. I breathe out a sigh of relief. They are Bexley’s family, and right now, we have to protect them, even if she turns those furious eyes to us.
“This is all your fault!” Taylor shouts, and we let her.
Poking my chest, she backs me toward the wall.
I look down at the pint-sized woman and raise a brow.
“She never should have gotten involved with you. She was fine, and now look at her!” Some of her bravado fails when she glances back at Bexley, but she shakes it off and turns her angry gaze back to me.
I let her because I see her fear and grief, and she’s taking it out on anyone she can.
“Yeah, back away, pretty boy. I’ll fucking end you.”
“Your sister is scarier,” I respond truthfully.
Her scream of anger is impressive, and her fist swings up. She has control and power, but she lacks speed.
Catching her hand before she touches my face and hurts herself, I gently squeeze it before I let it go. “Bex will have my head if you hurt yourself trying to hit me.”
“She taught me how to fight,” Taylor hisses.
“No doubt,” I reply. “But if you have a single scratch on you, she will cut me to pieces, so please, let’s not go there. If you still want to scream at me, maybe we can go outside so we don’t disturb her rest.”
“Don’t you try to control me, you oversized, walking, talking penis!
” she yells, throwing her hands up as she sweeps her gaze across the room to encompass us all.
“You’re supposed to be so scary and powerful, but look at her!
You didn’t protect her!” Her chest heaves, and none of us deny her accusations.
She’s right. We failed her. It won’t happen again.
Tears bloom in her eyes. “She sent me away to protect me, and she could have died.” Taylor wraps her arms around herself for a moment, and I look at Zayn for help.
The only crazy woman I know how to deal with is Bexley.
I don’t think what I do to her to calm her down would help Taylor.
She wouldn’t enjoy fighting me or sparring it out.
“Taylor,” Zayn begins, holding up his hands like he’s talking to a wild animal, “she is going to be okay. Be mad at us, that’s fine—”
“Don’t you tell me what I can and can’t do. All men like you are good for is what’s between your legs.”
“Your sister agrees, though she quite likes my mouth too,” I add, and her glare turns to me as I grin.
“Not helping.” Zayn sighs, being surprisingly serious while I’m being more like him.
“Taylor.” Her attention refocuses on him.
“Would you like me to hit my brother for you? He’s right.
If you do it and Bexley finds out you hurt yourself on his stupid face, she’ll kill us.
While we enjoy the special brand of torture our baby gives us, she’s in no shape for it at the moment. ”
“Our baby?” Her eyes narrow. “Our baby? Did you touch my sister?”
“Many times,” he answers truthfully. “We love her.”
Taylor freezes, her eyes blowing wide.
“It’s true,” I admit. “We’re in love with her.
Look at him.” I jerk my head at Kane, and she follows my gaze.
“You’ve undoubtedly seen him before on the news.
Look at how broken he is. We know we failed Bexley, but we won’t ever again.
We love her for who she is and everything that means.
We couldn’t stand in the way of her choices, nor would we ever do that, but we should have protected her back better, and we will from now on.
You can hate us, but please don’t try to push us away from her.
You won’t like what happens if you try to take the woman we love from us. ”
Her eyes narrow at the very clear threat in my voice. “Bexley doesn’t do love,” she snaps. “She does sex. That’s it.”
“Maybe, but it doesn’t stop us from loving her.” I need to change my approach. It’s obvious Taylor’s opinion will be important. If we can win her over, then Bexley won’t stand a chance, so I try to force a smile, but it must come across as terrifying because she steps back before turning away.
“Of course she’d get three mad dogs to follow her home,” she mutters, then she seems to remember her anger and collects herself.
“You’re missing the point. This is your fault,” she hisses, turning her finger toward us as she seems to amp herself back up.
“She was safe, she was okay, but then you got her involved in all of this—”
They say sisters are alike. I know Taylor and Bexley aren’t biologically related, but her rant would suggest otherwise.
Oh yes, Taylor is certainly someone we need to win over.
