Chapter Cassidy
CASSIDY
“Wanna make you smile every damn day, Little Demon.” He says it with emotion, and I feel the sincerity down to my toes and back up again. They’re laced in longing, in his guilt and his need for us to work.
“Good. I want you to,” I say, a little too quickly for my liking. His lip twitches, then he steps back, pulling me behind him. He takes us farther onto the dance floor as the music changes, and a song I’m vaguely familiar with comes on.
“All of You” by John Legend plays out, and Killa’s strong hands find my hips.
Listening to the lyrics of the song, it’s almost like it’s been written for us.
His blue eyes stare down into mine; each movement feels like we’re floating, like we’re the only two people in the world.
And in this moment, we are.
My past disappears, his betrayal erased, and all that remains is the love seeping from his eyes into mine.
A love growing that neither of us anticipated, but it’s like we can’t stop it from happening; we’re only along for the ride.
His lips nudge at mine, and when I open my mouth, his fingers flex on my hips and our tongues dance in time with the music, plunging into the depths of our desire and showing one another how we feel without the roughness that usually comes with sex.
When he draws back, his eyes search mine, and the words of the song fade into the truth reflected in his gaze. “You’re my end, Cass.”
And I finally understand what happiness is.
All the heartache and the turmoil have led me here. Brought me to him, and I’d endure it all again in a heartbeat to have him look at me the way he’s looking at me right now.
“I give you all of me,” he rasps in my ear, and a cry lodges in my chest.
He buries his nose into my hair and breathes me in, holding me closer than ever before, like he’s scared I’ll leave him, that I’ll run.
That I’ll destroy him.
Like he did me.
