Chapter 24

CHAPTER TWENTY-FOUR

Gigi

Killian leaves Rush’s office, stopping at my desk. “Gigi.”

I stand, giving him a warm smile. “Emma loves the doll dresses, thank you so much.”

“You’re welcome,” he grunts, his hands coming to the top of my desk as he leans over it. He looks down at the top, silence stretching out, before his eyes lift to mine again. “I hope you remember my offer. If you and Emma need help, you can always come to me. You have my number still, yes?”

My lips part as I look back at him. I thought he was so frightening the first time I met him, but now… Killian has the kindest energy of any person I’ve ever met. “Yes, I have it. I really appreciate that, Killian.”

“You don’t have to appreciate me. I just want you to promise me that you’ll call if you need help.”

My jaw tightens as I try to speak. I search his gaze, looking for some indicator as to why we’re having this conversation. “I promise.”

“Good.”

He starts to walk away but I reach out my hand, softly calling, “Killian?”

He turns back to me, the mask he wears when he speaks to most people in place. “Yes?”

“Is something wrong?”

He pivots, walking back to me. “A storm is brewing here in New York. There is no telling who the path of devastation will touch. If it comes near you, call.” And then he turns, his coat flapping out behind him as he walks away.

I watch him go, my brows drawn together.

“Everything all right?” Rush asks.

I didn’t even hear him step out of his office. “I’m not sure. Killian…” I look at Rush. “Did the meeting go poorly?”

Rush leans close. “I’m glad you’re confused by Killian too. I thought it was me.”

That makes my shoulders relax. “Is he prone to odd moods?”

“Yes. Definitely.” Rush meets my gaze. “Now. I’d like to review the meeting I just had with you.”

I nod. “Conference room?”

“My office.” His hand comes to my back as he leads me toward the door.

It’s not that he doesn’t touch me in the office. He does. But this one, with his hand splayed out, feels more like how he touches me in my apartment.

I look over my shoulder to see Rachel staring with wide eyes.

But Rush doesn’t notice as he leads me into his office and then closes the door behind us.

Before I can ask, however, my back hits the door, his body pressing to mine.

“Rush,” I gasp. “What if someone hears?—”

His lips crash down on mine.

I know this is a bad idea, but the feel of his body makes me forget all reason as I wrap my arms around his neck.

His hands find the zipper in my skirt. He jerks it down and then tugs the fabric off so that it pools around my shoes.

His pants follow, getting as far as his thighs, before he’s wrapping one of my legs around his waist.

Pushing my panties to the side, he bends down far enough to angle his cock before he slams into me.

A small zing of pain hits me along with the pleasure. Not that I care. I’d hurt for him anytime.

“I want my cum dripping down your thighs for the rest of the day,” he grunts against my lips as he pumps into me again. “I want any man who goes near you to smell me.”

I’d call him out for the jealousy, but the pain is gone, replaced with a swell of pleasure that has a moan falling from my lips.

He swallows it with his mouth, though I’m past the point of caring who hears. He thrusts his hips up, hitting that spot that has my legs trembling as I try to hang on.

It’s fast and so good as he pushes inside me, my body climbing higher with every thrust.

“Cum for me, sweetheart,” he rumbles against my mouth. “I want to hear you. I want to feel you.”

I have no idea why he asks this, but my body heeds his demand, an orgasm ripping through me as he swallows my moans. He breaks too, his hips jerking as he cums.

He slumps against me, his forehead falling against mine as our panting breaths mingle.

Everyone is acting strangely today, and no one is explaining why. “Rush?”

“In twenty minutes, we’ve got a meeting with several of the city inspectors. Every man in that room will know who you belong to and where they should keep their eyes.”

Relief makes me smile up at him, my body sinking even deeper into his arms. “Is this about your visitor?” I’m only now realizing I never caught his name.

The way Rush rumbles tells me that I’m right. It is about the man with the snake tattoo.

I wrinkle my nose. Rush should not be worried about him. “I don’t mean to give away too much of my hand, but that man was not the least bit interesting.”

He cups my jaw, kissing my mouth as he slowly eases back. “Why is that?”

“He isn’t you.” I feel the heat climb up my cheeks, but Rush gives me a one-sided sexy smile that makes my toes curl in my stilettos.

He leans back in, stroking my face. “You are the woman for me, Gigi.”

My entire body flushes. I want that so much, it makes me ache.

He pulls out of me, leaving me empty, as I shift my underwear back over and grab my skirt to pull it back on.

I nip at my lip as I wonder how loud we just were and who in the office has realized that I’m sleeping with the boss.

I zip my skirt, only to realize that the hook and eye is now broken. I’ll have to fix it tonight. I’ve only got two skirts.

Rush straightens his clothes, and then grabs my chin, kissing me before his leans back, still holding my face. “You’ve gone quiet.”

I sigh, a small sound, as I look away. “Think everyone knows what we just did?”

“I hope so,” he answers, a brow cocking. “The rest of the office will cut you a wide path if they do.”

It has a certain logic, but I’m not sure how the other assistants are going to respond.

I’ll worry about that after tonight though…

I probably should have told him all of the truth before I allowed him to loudly screw me against his office door.

My ability to make a situation worse is miraculous.

I clear my throat, smoothing my blouse, before I step into his bathroom to check my hair.

This time, he follows.

I turn to look at him, my brows lifting.

“I told you me being in the bathroom with you was part of the deal, just like I told you I want my cum running down your thighs.”

My lips part, as my brows lift, but I don’t argue as I turn toward the mirror, fixing my hair. When I’m done, I meet his gaze in the mirror. “Am I allowed to go to the bathroom?”

He steps up behind me, his hands coming to my hips as his nose burrows into my neck. “If you must.”

That makes a small laugh fall from my lips. “That serious?”

He lifts his head again, his eyes holding mine. “I told you, I want you to smell like me.”

A whole bunch of my fears ease as I smile at him in the reflection.

A minute later, I’m back at my desk, Rachel giving me the longest look ever.

I clear my throat and bury my face in my computer.

But I’m not working long when the concierge service in the main lobby rings up. “The city inspectors have arrived.”

I stand, crossing to the elevator, my thighs sticking together as I go.

The elevator doors open, two men step out. I smile, nodding to them. “Welcome to Smith Brothers Real Estate.”

One of the men smiles back. But the other gives me the oddest stare.

Do I smell that distinct? I smile wider as Rush steps up next to me. “Gentlemen.”

We move to the conference room, the meeting runs smoothly, the inspectors agree to sign off on the permits.

As the meeting wraps up, Rush requests that I make the necessary copies of the signed documents. With a nod of goodbye, I get up to leave, both the inspectors rising as well.

The man who stared at me at the beginning watches me go, his eyes narrow.

It makes my stomach lurch the way he’s looking at me. I turn away, quickly retreating to the safety of the copy room.

But I can’t shake the fear.

Does that man know Vigo? Does he know me? The idea of it makes my head spin. As the copier runs, I pick up my cell phone and call Erika.

“Hey,” she answers the phone softly, likely trying to keep our call on the down low.

“Hey,” I gasp into the phone. “I think a city inspector might know who I am.”

“Shit,” she mumbles. “That’s bad.”

I’m safe in the building. But a new thought occurs to me. Is the guy telling Rush the truth right now?

Panic fills my chest.

I’ve got to tell him first. Otherwise…

It’s going to be so much worse.
