Prologue
On Hollowcrest Isle, we didn’t fear the sea. We feared the moon.
The sea only drowned you once, while the moon waited. It watched and remembered.
And when it decided to take something, it never asked.
I didn’t believe in fate. I believed in iron, in rope, in surviving the winter.
That was until the night silver light spilled over our cliffs and something beneath my skin answered it.
Not loudly. Not gently. But enough to make my blood go still.
Far beyond our shores, beyond frost, fang and iron banners, something stirred in return.
I didn’t know his name then.
Only that something in the dark had finally seen me.
