Chapter 3

Chapter Three

Yelena

Lawson told me that her family knew some people who run casinos in Detroit.

I pointed my car in that direction and that’s where baby girl and I ended up.

Yes, I discovered that the tiny baby was indeed my sister’s, and her name is Samara and she is indeed only two and a half months old.

Or so the paperwork I took from my sister's apartment says.

What floored me in not a fucking good way is finding out that Sasha used my information when she got pregnant and according to the state of Nevada.

She used my social and my birthday. This means that according to everyone I am a mom to a daughter.

Don’t get me wrong, I wanted to one day be one.

In the future when I was settled with a man and you know all the things that little girls dream of.

Not this way and not with everything being a lie.

Laying in bed in the little run-down shithole hotel, I continue thinking about what I was going to do.

There are plenty of casinos for me to work at but I don’t know what to do about Samara.

Lawson paid for a one-day babysitter to come and watch her but I know I will never be able to continue to pay her. I don’t know how to fucking do this.

Samara starts to whimper from her place beside me on the bed.

Rolling over I look down at the sweet girl wondering for the millionth time if I was doing the right thing by keeping her and not sending her to a good home.

Lawson’s words break through that thought, “You are an amazing person. You’ll be an amazing mom and she is the last piece of your sister you have. ”

“Well, little one, it’s me and you. What in the world are we going to do now?” I ask Samara, not expecting an answer.

She just looks up at me with the biggest blue eyes I’d ever seen. My phone starts ringing causing her face to scrunch up in the saddest face. Reaching out I grab my phone answering it without looking.

“Hello?” I ask, rubbing Samara’s forehead.

“You know running out on me without a word is just fucking rude.”

Scoffing at Luca’s words, “Who me? I would never be that rude to someone.”

“Lena, you didn’t have to run. You know Yuri and I would’ve helped you with whatever Sasha had gotten herself into this time.”

Tears prick at his words.

“Luca, I don’t know what happened or what it was and I was not about to start something when we both know she was probably in the wrong and fucked it all up.

So I did what I do best. I packed up and hit the road.

Everything is going to be a-okay,” I tell him, trying to feel excited and believe what I’m saying .

“Lie to Lawson all you want but don’t lie to me. Where are you?” Luca asks, not believing me at all.

“Not lying. We’ve made it to Detroit. Lawson told me that you guys were friendly with the guys who run some of the casinos here. So that’s where I went and we’re going to figure this out.” I tell him, not believing it for a second.

“Yeah okay. Look, I have a friend in Detroit who is going to need an assistant very soon. I’ll send the information, dress nice and for fuck sake watch what you say to him. He doesn’t play as nicely as we do.” Luca laughs at me just as my phone dings with a new email.

“Thank you, Luca. Tell Lawson next time I see her I’m spanking her ass for ratting me out like this.”

“I’ll be in touch,” he says as he hangs up the phone.

Sighing I drop back on the bed knowing that this is going to be my best option. I just have to do what I do best and talk my way in. I’ve only ever been a waitress. I don't know if I can be an assistant to whoever Luca sent me but I’m damn sure going to try.

Samara starts to fuss beside me so I get up and make her a bottle. Once she is done and burped she passes out. Scrolling through the email that Luca sent. This job is truly way more than I’ve ever done before but I know I need this for us.

Thinking back to the day I met Aleksandr.

I get off the elevator and sitting at a very nice desk is a woman who is exactly what you would picture working at a very large, nice casino.

Long perfect blonde hair, slim build with a nice chest. As I approach her, I notice two large men on guard duty.

I had started to wonder how Luca would know about this job.

The pretty blonde looks up at me smiling wide, “Hi, welcome to the executive floor of the Gambit Casino and Hotel, how may I help you?”

“I have a meeting with Mr. Savas today.” I tell her not sure if that will get me through the door.

“I’m sorry, Miss, but Mr. Savas is unavailable and not taking meetings right now." She smiles wide.

Deciding that I wasn’t going to be leaving without at least speaking to this man I do the only thing I know to do, “Luca Volkov sent me to have this meeting. I won’t be leaving until I’ve had a moment of his time.”

The woman at the desk doesn’t say anything to start until one of the big guys standing at the door comes over.

“I’m sure there must be some confusion, Mr. Savas doesn’t show a meeting or anyone coming from Mr. Volkov. Would you like to follow me this way so I can verify some information?” he asks.

“That would be great. Thank you so much.” I follow the big guy into a very nice office and take a seat. He offers me a bottle of water and then leaves, closing the door behind himself.

I sit there for I don’t know how long, waiting on someone, when I hear the doors of an elevator.

I turn looking at the wall as it splits open, revealing the most magnificent man I’ve ever seen.

He is wide at the shoulders, narrow at the hips with some magnificent tattoos.

They are only broken up by the splatter of blood.

Well, now it all makes sense as to why the Volkov name means so much.

Standing from my chair I realize that with my heels I’m taller than this man.

“I’m not even going to ask you what happened. I know you have an attached bathroom so just point me in that direction and I’ll get you a rag to clean up,” I say, not at all missing the hard length that comes to life.

Making my way around him, his scent with a touch of iron ignites a fire that’s been extinguished for so long I never thought it could be ignited again.

Once in the bathroom I grab a washcloth and start running water over it.

In a blink, this man has my wrist twisted up behind my back and is leaning over me not at all hiding his erection from me.

“Let’s start with who the fuck you are and why your fucking here.”

Huffing in annoyance I look back at him, “My name is Yelena Agapov and I’m here for my interview as your new Assistant. If you would kindly let me go so that I can complete my current task of getting you a rag to clean the blood off before you get it on my clothes.”

“I’m not looking for an assistant,” he growls concerned.

“I got word from Luca Volkov. Said you would be looking for help shortly and I might wanna stop by.” I tell him, still not happy about the position I’m currently in. When I get out of here I’m going to beat the shit out of Luca for getting me in this predicament.

“Well, it looks like Luca was mistaken. I’m all good here. So do us both a favor and remove yourself from my building,” he demands.

Watching him I don’t say a word and when he smirks I know I’m not going to like what he has to say next. “Unless you want to take care of my raging dick.”

I can’t stop him from seeing my reaction to him. I want this man to do all the things his eyes are promising me. Then I remember that I’m here because my sister fucked up and I have a baby to take care of .

Shutting that shit down I say with as much ice as I can muster, “There’s nothing I can offer you, Mr. Savas. I will leave my resume on your desk and look forward to your call shortly.”

He steps back letting me go and I walk from his office.

My pants are soaked and I’m so frustrated I could scream.

I make it to the street without any more problems and sent a text to the babysitter Lawson sent me so I could come to this shit show.

Driving away from downtown I want to scream in frustration.

It’s been two fucking weeks since my meeting with Aleksandr Savas and I’m starting to run out of money.

I needed that job. I’ve applied for every job I could find and still haven’t heard from anyone about anything.

I’ve given up hope when my phone rings with a local number.

I answer it praying it’s something other than a fuckin dinner.

“Can I speak to Yelena, please?” the smooth voice questions.

“This is her. How may I help you?” I question.

“It turns out that I am in need of an assistant. Are you still available?” he says as if he is so important that he doesn’t have to give me his name.

I decide that I’m not going to make this easy on him. If he wants to be an asshole, well I’m going to return the favor, “I’m sorry and who might I be speaking with?”

The deep timbre of his chuckle floods my panties, “Excuse my rudeness and haste. This is Aleksandr Savas and I am calling to find out if you are still available for the assistant position here at the Gambit Casino and Hotel? ”

“Mr. Savas, it is so lovely to hear from you. As it turns out I am still available. When would you like for me to start?” I ask, trying not to sound too eager or excited.

“Would you be able to start tomorrow?” he asks.

Looking over at Samara I know I will need a few days to get her in somewhere, “It appears that I will not be able to start until Monday. Does that work for you?”

The squeak of an office chair leaning back makes me smile, “Monday would be perfect gives me time to clean out and set up your desk.”

“That sounds like a plan. I’ll see you on Monday.” I hang up and dance in excitement squealing for joy, scaring the living shit out of Samara who I pick up and hold close to my chest.

Looking down at her I smile, “We’re going to make it. Everything is going to be okay. We’ll have our own place soon and everything is going to be okay.”

Well, that’s what I thought but I should have known that life is never that easy for me.
