Chapter 47

Chapter

Forty-Seven

ENZO

Ihustle her into our hotel suite, hands on her ass, mouth on her neck, my dick leaking so much precum I’m sure my boxers look like they’ve been used to clean up a frosting explosion in a cupcake factory.

God, I fucking love her, and her sexy body drives me wild.

I kick the door closed behind us and herd her toward the bed. And she’s into it, clawing at my neck and kissing me back. Until she’s not. She jerks away from me.

I freeze. Take a half step back so I can get a proper look at her. Fuck, her skin is gray. “Rayne, what is it, baby?”

She closes her eyes, sways on her feet. “I feel really sick.”

Shit! “You want to go the bathroom or lie down?”

“Bathroom,” she groans.

I slide a steadying arm around her waist. “No, the bed. The room is spinning.”

“Okay, I’ve got you.” I scoop her into my arms.

“No!” She shakes her head. “Bathroom.” Then she claps her hand over her mouth.

I rush her to the bathroom and place her next to the toilet—just in time.

With her head in the toilet bowl, the sounds she makes are inhuman as she throws up what seems to be the entire contents of her stomach.

She’s rarely ever sick, even after an epic vodka session.

I sit on the tile floor beside her, holding her hair and rubbing her back.

“You should go,” she groans, resting her forehead on the porcelain. “I’m a mess.”

I rub circles over her back. “I’m not going anywhere, baby.”

She sniffs. “Thank you. I really didn’t want you to go.”

We spent another ten minutes on the bathroom floor, and Rayne wasn’t sick again, so I risked carrying her to bed and having her drink a little water. Then I helped her undress before wrapping in one of the hotel robes.

Now we’re lying on the bed, her snuggled against me and the TV on in the background.

“I’m sorry I ruined our night,” she says, sounding sad.

“Baby, how can lying here with you like this ruin anything? I’m having the time of my life here.”

She nudges me in the ribs. “Liar.”

“I am not lying.” I kiss the top of her head, ignore the faint smell of vomit because I really don’t care. “I love doing anything as long as it’s with you. Even holding back your hair while you puke.”

She hums. “I seem to remember you doing that once or twice before.”

“Yes. At your sixteenth birthday party, and then your seventeenth too.”

“Not my eighteenth though,” she purrs seductively.

“Nope. I do remember having your hair wrapped around my fist at one point though.” Fuck, the memory has my cock jerking to life again. Not that it was soft, but it wasn’t trying to burst out of my robe.

“That was quite the night,” she says with a contented sigh. “You ruined me for all other men, Enzo Medici.”

“As was my intention, baby.”

“Then mission accomplished, sir.”

I pull her a little closer. “How are you feeling?”

“You know I feel fine now. You think it was the burger?”

“You only ate it a little over an hour ago. Food poisoning doesn’t usually work that quickly.”

“Maybe I ate it too fast,” she groans like she’s recalling un-eating it even faster.

Fuck, she really needs to get herself a decent calendar or something, because the fact that another reason for her acute bout of vomiting hasn’t crossed her mind is both adorable and terrifying. “Do you remember the day we met again? At the Bertellis’ club?”

“Of course I do.”

“And you had your period?”

“Yeah?”

“That was over five weeks ago, baby.”

I wait a second for the penny to drop. She sits bolt upright, eyes wide with shock and possibly horror, which is unnerving. “But I’m on the pill.”

I shrug. “Then maybe it was the burger.”

She worries her lower lip. “Oh, Enzo, it wasn’t the damn burger, was it?”

“I mean, I sure as fuck hope not, but you never know. You’ve had a lot going on these past few weeks. Is it possible you missed a pill? Also, can’t stress fuck with your cycle?”

She blinks at me. “For one thing, what do you mean you hope not? And B, how do you know about cycles?”

“I’m not a neanderthal, Rayne. I know how periods work.”

She eyes me with suspicion. “And the other thing?”

“You mean do I hope that you just spewed your guts up in our fancy hotel bathroom because you’re carrying my baby?”

She nods, folding her arms across her chest and trying to look all serious and menacing. But her hair is all mussed up and she’s wearing a fluffy white robe and has mascara smudged beneath her left eye, and she looks nothing but goddamn adorable.

“Fuck yes I do.”

“What happened to baby steps?” she grumbles.

I can’t help laughing. “This is the definition of baby steps. We nailed baby steps.”

She nudges me again. “No, we suck ass at baby steps.”

“Want me to go find somewhere and pick up a test?”

“No.” She lies down again, burrowing her head into my chest. “I like you being right here.”

“I like me being right here too, cuore mio. I’ll always be right here, for you and our kids.”

She looks up at me, hazel eyes shining. “I know you will. It doesn’t scare you though? That we might be having a baby and you have so much other stuff going on in your life right now?”

I tuck her hair behind her ear and send up a quick prayer to whatever god there is that brought her back to me.

“The only thing I’m scared of is losing you.

I’d give it all up if you want me to because I don’t want any of it without you, Rayne.

We can even go live in your apartment in San Francisco if that’s where you truly want to be. ”

She snorts a giggle. “You would be like a giant in my apartment, Enzo. I’m not even sure you’d fit in the shower.”

I gently tip her chin up so she can see that I’m not joking about this. “I’m serious. I know our life in Las Vegas is what you wanted once, but if that’s changed… I will follow you wherever you want to go.”

She trails her fingertip across my cheek. “I love you for saying that, but that would mean leaving your brothers, leaving your family, and I could never ask you to do that. They need you now more than ever.”

“You’re my family, cuore mio. The only family I cannot bear to live without.

My life means nothing without you. Say the word and I’ll leave all of it behind.

We can go wherever you choose. Get back on my bike and disappear.

Just please say you’ll give me another chance. I promise I won’t fuck this one up.”

She stares at me, tears filling her hazel eyes, and it feels like the whole world stops turning while I wait for her answer.
