Epilogue

The next royal wedding at the palace in Basilia was for a cook and a driver, and it was attended by everyone who loved them.

Including, of course, the king and queen.

And their children.

Onyx and Birdie’s oldest was walking now, and was a charming terror who lived to give his father daily anxiety. He was a brave boy who was often pretending to be a fearsome dragon, and threatening to eat anyone who was hapless enough to cross him in the halls.

Their daughter was still brand-new.

As a family, during the reception, they all got up to dance. Onyx held his little boy’s hand, and cradled his daughter in his other arm, his wife standing across from him, laughing.

They danced every chance they got. They smiled every day.

He had learned to live in each and every moment he had with Birdie. She’d taught him that.

King Onyx of Basilia was no stranger to the joys of life. That it was beautiful and often vibrant and full of love.

As long as one chose to embrace it.
