Epilogue Two Heather
EPILOGUE TWO: HEATHER
“ H appy birthday to you! Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday dear Cassie! Happy birthday to you!”
My oldest daughter grins at me, her dark eyes the spitting image of her gorgeous daddy.
“Is Daddy gonna come out of the bedroom now? I know he’s been hiding in there all day with my present.”
This girl! She’s too damn smart for her own good. I grin and holler, “Come on out, honey! She knows!”
He pouts coming out of the bedroom but her squeal makes him laugh as she jumps up and down, clapping. “I love her! She’s so pretty!”
He bends down and hands the little bundle of fluff to our daughter who holds her gently. The tiny kitten mewls and my heart melts as Cassie cuddles her to her face, rubbing her gently with her chin. “I’m gonna call her Aphrodite.”
“That’s a big mouthful for a little kitty,” I laugh.
But the kitty’s bright blue eyes open wide and she yawns delicately, curling up against Cassie’s chin.
Little Mikey and Tracy both smile and try to pet the little fluffy thing. Jude comes up behind me and leans down, his arm on my shoulder, kissing my cheek. “How are you feeling, Red?”
“I feel good.” I’m about six months along with our next one and Jude is a mess. I’m in a geriatric pregnancy this time since I’m over thirty and he’s driving me crazy.
But it’s because he loves me and I can live with that. Even if I want to kill him sometimes.
“I can’t wait until they all go to sleep tonight. I got you something,” I whisper.
His dark brow lifts and he eyes me closely. “What would that be?”
“I bought a new outfit.”
“Really?”
“Let’s just say, what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas,” I laugh.
“Almost all of it,” he chuckles.
That’s true. Our lives here in Wildwood are going great. Jude opened a new office here in town and one of our wedding presents when we got married was a meeting with the company I wanted to write for. They loved my stuff so much they made me a permanent offer. I’ve been writing for them for years now.
And it’s all because of my husband. And Vegas.
