Chapter 38
Chapter
Thirty-Eight
One week later
BELLAMY
I’m crawling up the fucking walls, and so is Winter. I hate hospitals. The doctor keeps extending our stay, and I’ve only been able to see Cassidy through the tiny screen of a phone.
I’m irritable and an angry omega.
“You look and feel like you’re going to explode,” Abbott says, his hands in his pockets as he observes Winter and I.
“I want to see Cassidy,” Winter says. “Actually see her!”
Abbott was already opening his mouth to offer another video chat and his teeth click together as he shuts his mouth. That’s probably for the best before Winter unleashes her frustration at him.
A rap on the door by the doctor has us all looking in his direction. Shiloh dragged Ansel home to shower and change, while Abbott has been going between both hospital rooms to check on us.
While I want to tell him to go home to sleep, I don’t really want to be left alone with Winter, either. Unfortunately, I’m finding myself very dependent on my alphas.
“I was hoping to give you two some good news,” Dr. Marsden says slowly. “Should I come back?”
Ha, he acts as if we’re fighting. No, this is just how we talk. It’s taken some time, but Winter and I are comfortable around our alphas now. If we’re unhappy with something, we’ll say it.
Especially since they can tell when we’re keeping things from them.
“No need for that,” Abbott says, leaning against the wall nonchalantly. “Please, go on.”
“Oh. Well. As you know, we’ve been keeping Winter and Bellamy for observation. However, they’re both healing very well. Therefore, we’ll be discharging them tonight,” the doctor explains.
They kept Cassidy under medical sedation to keep her calm for the last week, and I want to know when she’s going to be awake. Winter and I hold hands tightly as we digest that information, our beds still pushed together.
One of our alphas has been sleeping with us each night, but even we can agree that it’s not particularly comfortable.
“Thank you,” Winter says politely. I can tell that she’s not feeling very nice or patient. “When will Cassidy be awake?”
“We actually stopped the drip to keep her under sedation this morning and she just woke up.”
Abbott’s eyes widen, and his scent gets very smokey. I can smell it from where I’m laying, leading me to believe that he didn’t know this.
“Did she,” he growls.
“Yes. If Bellamy and Winter want to visit, I’m okay with it. They’re no longer on IVs. I just ask that they take it slow in the hallways,” Dr. Marsden says brightly.
Oh this man has no idea the shitstorm he just released. Why the fuck didn’t they come find Abbott immediately? It doesn’t even sound as if he knew that they stopped the sedation.
Dr. Marsden leaves without a clue to how close he is to death, while Abbott’s knuckles go white from how tightly he’s clenching his hands.
“I want to go,” I tell him, trying to pull him out of the anger he’s feeling. “Please, Abbott. Take Winter and I to see her. She’s alone.”
Our alpha takes a deep breath and closes his eyes before blowing it out.
“Alright,” he says, opening his eyes. “You’ve been in bed for a week. Take it easy.”
Throwing the sheets to the side, Winter and I sit up, ready to get the fuck out of this bed.
“You’re going to make me crazy,” Abbott mutters. He’s torn on who to help out first, before he comes around to take my arm.
As soon as I’m upright, Winter scoots over to my side of the bed to stand, and Abbott relaxes slightly as he wraps his arm around her waist. This way, he’s standing between us.
“My ass isn’t showing in this, right?” Winter asks uncomfortably. “I swear, I feel a draft.”
Abbot checks both of our hospital gowns, frowning when he sees they’re too low in the back. He fixes the ties on both of them, and then we’re ready to begin walking.
We have to go slower than any of us would like because our legs are wobbly, but we eventually make it.
Cassidy is in a large bed, and looks tiny inside of it.
Her eyes open as we walk into her room, and she smiles weakly.
Her lips are cracked, and her cheek is less swollen where she was constantly slapped and punched.
While she looks tired for someone who’s been sleeping for a week, I’m very happy to see her.
“Hmmm. Hi,” she whispers.
“Abbott, can you get her water?” I ask, already getting into the bed with her.
Winter joins me on the other side of Cassidy, and I can feel the tension bleed out of her body. Abbott finds ice and water for Cassidy, and I hold the cup for her.
“I need some things,” Winter says, getting comfortable.
“Good, I need shit to do. Put me to work,” Abbott says, obviously feeling a little stir crazy as well.
Cassidy almost chokes on her water, gasping as she pulls away. She had a tube to help her breathe, and now that it’s all been removed, I expect that her throat is raw.
“Sorry,” Abbott murmurs. “I forget that I’m funny by accident.”
“You’re very funny,” Cassidy rasps with a choked laugh.
“Ready for my list?” Winter asks with wide eyes.
I put the cup on the table next to me, listening to them as I lay back on the pillows.
“Go for it,” he says, pulling out his phone and opening it to a note app.
“I need lip balm, dry shampoo, and a good barrier cream,” she says.
“Got it,” Abbott says, lips twitching in amusement.
I can see from here that Cassidy needs what Winter asked for. Her skin is so dry.
“Breath mints too,” Cass rasps. “Please. I feel like I probably smell too.”
“You don’t,” I promise.
“The nurses made sure you didn’t, and I washed your hair a couple of days ago,” Abbott says, blushing. “Do you need anything else?”
“No, I’m very happy right now,” Cassidy says, snuggling with us. She’s careful not to move too much because of her surgery, stitches, and bruised ribs, but I’m so happy I can see her and touch her.
“Alright. I’ll be back. I love you,” Abbott says.
We chorus that we love him back, and Cassidy hums under her breath as he leaves.
“Okay, what have I missed?” Cassidy asks. “How long have we been here? I haven’t even seen the doctor.”
Coward. He probably doesn’t want to say the wrong thing.
“We’ve been here for a week, and Bell and I are supposed to be discharged tonight,” Winter says.
“You had surgery, and they put you into a medicated coma to heal,” I add. “Winter and I have been poked and prodded like crazy, and we’ve been bugging the guys to let us see you.”
“If I was sleeping, I promise I was probably very boring,” Cassidy teases gently.
God, I can’t believe she can joke about any of this.
“What else? Where are Ansel and Shi?” she asks.
Her fingers move over my bite marks with a happy sigh, and Winter shows hers off. Things are slowly being set to rights.
“They went home to shower and change. They’re both going to be pissed they missed this,” I explain.
“I’m sure they’ve been losing their minds,” she sighs. “Ugh, I want to know what happened at the bunker, but the door is open. No, don’t get up. I’ll find out when Abbott comes back.”
“Abbott would video chat from your room so we could see you. We really missed you. Even if you were asleep,” I explain. “We solidified our bonds as soon we woke up, even though Abbott worried that it might hurt us.”
“Was there anything else?”
We have to say something, Winter whispers to me.
“There is, huh?” she asks.
“Apparently, I’m pregnant,” Winter squeaks out.
“You’re…what!” Cassidy gasps. “But the baby, they’re okay? After everything?”
“The blood test shows that the baby is more than two weeks old, and they did more tests yesterday,” I confirm. “The levels are increasing, which lowers the chance of miscarriage.”
“How do you feel about this?” Cass asks.
“I was shocked,” Winter says. “So much happened, I wasn’t sure if I could be happy about this. But now? I’m starting to feel excited. I know I’m young…”
“It’s not like you’re going to be doing this alone,” Cassidy says with wide eyes, taking her hand. “There will be more than enough people to help.”
Winter takes a deep breath, and rips the bandaid off.
“Even if there’s two babies?” she asks.
“Two? It’s too early to know that, right?” Cassidy asks carefully. “Do twins run in your family?”
I know that she’s trying not to make Winter feel insane, and I can appreciate that. I rub my thumb over the hand that has an IV in it, careful not to fuck any of the tubing up.
“No, they don’t,” I reply. “It’s not Winter, it’s you too. There are two babies. The doctor said when they were doing tests while you were in surgery, they found out that the doctors were wrong about your ability to get pregnant when you were younger.”
“You can get pregnant,” Winter confirms.
Cassidy’s eyes grow wide, and I can only imagine what she’s thinking. Her lavender scent gets even stronger, and I imagine she’s panicking.
“The pregnancy is not as far along as mine, but the doctor said that he doesn’t believe there’s a chance that the father is outside of our pack,” I say.
“How can he tell?” Cassidy wails. It’s more of a mewl and softer than a wail to be honest. Tears burn in my eyes as I swallow hard, hating that this can’t be a happy moment.
I can’t fucking wait to kill Clara. That stupid cunt.
“They know,” Winter insists.
Cassidy gasps in a breath as she shakes her head, trying to wrap her brain around this. Her tears trigger Winter’s and mine, and we hold her carefully between us as we cry.
Abbott walks inside the room and freezes as he takes us in.
“You,” Cassidy says, sniffing. “Close the door. Are you the asshole who got me pregnant?”
“I don’t know,” Abbott says, closing the door behind him as he clutches the plastic bag from the hospital gift shop. “It could technically be me or Bellamy.”
“I was pretty wrapped up in your body for a few days,” I admit, my nose running. God, we’re a mess. “It would be pretty cool if the baby was mine.”
“This is insane!” Cassidy yells.
“Mmm, baby. Yell some more,” Abbott croons, locking the door.
