CHAPTER 12

Piper

U nfortunately, I can’t go back home to where I used to live before coming to the Capitol, because that’s way too obvious.

I have to go somewhere they won’t be able to find me.

Frankly I’m not sure how powerful their abilities to scent me are, or how motivated they’ll be to find me, but I don’t want to take any chances.

I do not want to be found.

Why the fuck would they even want to find me? They each made it pretty goddamn clear what they thought of our mate bonds.

And I definitely would be happy if I never saw their arrogant asses again.

I need some place where my scent will blend in. . .or be so disguised that they’ll never find me.

The first thing I do once I get clear of the palace is roll up my pants and tromp with my boots through the pretty little stream that runs through the grounds.

The next thing I did was go to an ATM and take as much from the account Rook opened for me as I could.

There was unfortunately a daily limit, but I tried to drain it as much as I could.

Then, my pockets flush with cash, I bought a huge box of cheeseburgers since I hadn’t even gotten a bite to eat at my own wedding reception, and took the kitty carrier to Otis and Mary’s cottage.

Just as I knew they would be, they were happy to help.

“Do you know of anywhere I might be able to get Omega suppressants?” I asked as we ate the cheeseburgers around the kitchen table.

“Why, those are illegal ,” Otis said. “On account of Alpha laws that prevent Omegas from going into heat. We have to listen to our Alpha betters, you know. They know what’s best for us.”

I took a sip of my soda and we stared stone-faced at each other.

Then at the same time, we broke into uncontrollable laughter until the tears streamed down my face and Otis had to wipe his away with a handkerchief.

“Of course I know where to get those,” Otis said. “I also have Omega accelerants, that put you into heat faster.”

“I don’t want that ,” I shuddered. “But I will pay you handsomely for suppressants.”

“What will you do after this?” the sensible Mary asked. “Remember, the suppressants are only a temporary solution.”

“I’m not sure,” I said. “But as soon as I think it’s safe I’ll come back for my kitties.”

Then I took a bus to the farthest town away I could think of, right near the huge wild forest that separated us from the neighboring country.

It took all night to get there, but once we arrived I knew what I would have to do.

As I got off the bus, I allowed myself a long, luxurious stretch, then I went to find the closest perfume shop to ask for a job.
