18. Piper

CHAPTER 18

Piper

I don’t know if Rook, Erain, and Teddy are still out there. If they are, I hope they’re fucking choking on their own cocks.

I can hear various grunts and moans drift in the open window, but I’m too occupied by burning off some of my anger by fucking Mario.

Since we’ve been off and on and fuck buddies for a few years now, I’ve finally been able to get through his fat head where the clit is and how to touch it.

He’s not going to set the world on fire with his dirty talk, but at this exact moment his cock hits the spot.

I don’t know if it’s because it’s been several weeks or he’s picked up some new moves, but tonight he’s doing it just right.

With a few tiny adjustments, he’s got me at the brink in no time.

It’s kind of fun to be fucking out here in the Enclave, kind of like a mini-vacation.

“Damn, Piper! Want to get back together?” he asked after dumping the condom in the garbage.

“No, thanks,” I said automatically, wondering if I should tell him that technically I’ve been claimed by Pack Skystone.

I’m just cracking my neck and wishing I had a cigarette when I hear a crash.

Shit

This place is supposed to be a fortress!

I rush to the window and see the gates out front bowing and bent at the impact of Rook’s huge Jeep.

What the fuck

I realize three things at once.

One, apparently they are serious about claiming me as their Omega.

Two, I’m not getting a relaxing cigarette any time soon.

Three, I need to get Mario out of here because by the look on Rook’s face, he’d happily rip his head off.

I glance at my shadow clearly visible against the window and can’t help a little smirk.

Oh, maybe they did get an eyeful.

Well, if they did it serves them right and fuck them.

But now I’m moving fast as I hear Rook rev the engine again, throwing boxers and sweatpants at Mario. One or two more passes at that gate and he’ll break through.

“You better get out of here,” I said. “I’ll call you if I’m in the mood again.”

Mario was still staring out the window, slack-jawed.

“That’s a fuckin $500,000 Jeep he’s destroying,” he said in awe. “Fucking hell.”

“Put your floppy dick back in your shorts and get out of here,” I snapped at him. “Does that Alpha look like he’s fucking around? Do you want your Beta balls separated from your body?”

Mario finally headed out one exit and I ran for another, hoping they’d get distracted by Mario so I could melt away into the forest and make my way back into town.

It was a long-ass way into town, but it was better than having to deal with Rook, Erain, and Teddy, so I skirted the Enclave and began walking back.

However, I had barely gotten started when I heard loud roars and growls and the sound of the three Alphas pursuing.

“She’s gone this way!” Erain called.

And of all the people I didn’t want to see, Erain was the one I didn’t want to see the most, so of course it was him who came barreling out of the mist and shadows to hunt me down.

“Don’t you dare,” I began, but with a feral caveman grunt, he picked me up and throw me over his shoulder.

“Get the fuck away from me,” I yelled, drumming up and down on his chest with my muddy boots.

But it didn’t even make an impression on him.

Erain threw his head back and howled, a low curious wild sound that made something squirm deep inside me and I felt very grateful I had taken my heat suppressants.

I just hoped to hell they’d work until I figured out what to do.

He howled again, then stopped abruptly and I heard him take a long deep sniff of me, like some sort of scent addict, and I kicked at him even harder. Goddamn, he was practically panting.

“Stop howling in my ear,” I said irritably. “I’m sure you don’t need all that to make them hear you.”

“Sorry,” he said, in a gruff low voice.

I knew perfectly well it was useless to struggle, but I still beat on his back and kicked Erain as hard as I could in the chest, even though he didn’t make any sound. Apparently he was stronger than he looked.

“You were right,” I said. “We aren’t fated mates after all. Just put me down and we’ll call it even. Better luck next time, boys.”

“We are fated mates,” a low voice rumbled, and suddenly Rook and Teddy emerged from the shadows, both panting heavily.

“Are you ok, Piper?” Teddy asked anxiously, bounding toward me, carefully moving my long ponytail so he could see my face.

His hands were trembling.

“Call off your muscle,” I said, looking at Rook. “I don’t want to go with you.”

Rook looked even more like a stone gargoyle.

“I’m sorry,” he said after a moment. His face seemed expressionless, but if I concentrated, I thought I could see a muscle throb in his jaw, pulse in his cheek. “It’s not safe for you out here. You have to come back with us.”

“Of course we’re fated mates,” Teddy said eagerly.

His big baby blue eyes shone at me out of a face smeared with dirt and mud and he was shaking so hard that I saw him grip the side of his pants.

“No such thing,” I said.

“Let’s take her home,” Erain put in, and I felt him twist his head back and forth. “These woods might be dangerous.”

“There hasn’t been a feral Alpha in this country since before I was born,” I interrupted, but they seemed to be freaked out, so I was hauled through the woods and back to Rook’s Jeep, which was steaming in the front, and the front gates of the Enclave lay bowed and smashed in front of it.

“You’re going to have to pay for that,” I warned, but I was interrupted by Erain putting me down and then hugging me so tightly I wasn’t able to breathe for a second.

“What are you doing, freak? Stop that!” I protested, and Rook had to shove Erain aside to break us apart.

“Sorry, I’m just so—happy you’re all right,” he gasped and I rolled my eyes.

“You can sit up front with me,” Rook interrupted, opening the front door.

I contemplated making another break for it but apparently this was what I got for perfuming in my room so I hopped inside.

Rook kept swallowing convulsively, and there was a smear of blood on the front of what used to be a white shirt.

“What happened to you guys?” I asked, flipping down my mirror to look at Erain and Teddy in the back. “You were never much to look at, not compared to my Mario, of course, but you look like you’ve been dragged through a hedge.”

“His name is Mario?” Rook asked.

Fuck.

I forgot Rook was smart.

“Let me go,” I said as we pulled out and trundled down the road, smoke still gently bellowing out from under the hood.

“Piper, we care about you,” Rook said haltingly. “We—want to take you back to the Palace and start over and do things right this time.”

If this was all because of my perfume, I’d make sure they got a lungful of what they could never have and I tossed my ponytail over my shoulder, knowing it would spread my scent all through the enclosed space.

“I’m not going to make it easy for you,” I warned. “I do not accept this fated mate shit.”
