Chapter 27
Celeste
I just had the best sleep of my life. I stretched my arms, feeling the soft fabric of a comforter against my body - along with the warm, solid flesh of a man. My eyes popped open, and I turned to see Liam’s own green eyes as he looked at me. Memories came rushing back, and I quickly flung my arm over my face, emitting a low groan as I tried to sink deeper under the covers. I’d actually done it - I’d given in to my baser instincts and slept with Liam. It was so satisfying, so incredible, so good that I had lost myself in my desires in just one evening.
We’d spent the entire night together, connecting and riding the mutual high of finally sleeping together. As soon as we finished and thought we’d been done, another wave of desire would build up. We had spent at least six hours in the back of that SUV, on the side of the road, just letting out all our pent-up passion. Liam paused only to look at his phone, sending off a quick text to his pack as they checked in on him. I didn’t know what he told them. All I knew was that we finally made it home at five in the morning, unable to keep our hands off of each other even then. We stumbled into his room, collapsing on his bed before falling into slumber.
“Good morning.” Despite my exhaustion from last night’s activities, his deep whisper still ignited something in me. I wanted to crawl on top of him all over again.
“Ugh.” Was all I could muster in response. How could I have let this happen? I peeked out from under my arm. He was propped up, his head resting on his hand as he looked at me. His muscular torso looked perfect in this light, and the scent of our bodies and what we had done with each other permeated the room.
“I’ll take that as a not so good morning then?” He asked, and I let out a deep sigh.
“I have to run errands today. I need to go all the way over to my area of town to get my hair done, and stop by the house to pick some things up.” My voice was scratchy, and I was sure I looked like a mess. I hadn’t had time to take off my makeup before falling into his bed. Liam was staring at me like I was still perfect, with a look of contentment on his face.
“We were up late. Why don’t you just rest? Stay in here if you like. I’ll get us some breakfast.” He offered, and I started to shake my head.
“I can’t. I need to get back to my room.” I answered, not quite sure how to act.
“Well… if you want. But right now all you have is your skirt and top from last night, and the guys are probably out in the dining room.” His words invoked the image of me scrambling down the corridor wrapped in his comforter, makeup smeared and reeking of sex as I ran past Vigo and Dante. I cringed and sunk down even lower.
“Yea, I think I’ll just stay here for the morning.” I replied, and I heard him smile as he spoke.
“Alright. Rest up, I’ll grab some food when the coast is clear.”
“You know, you sure do love to feed me.”
“More than you know.” He said with a wink, then rolled out of bed as he reached for his sweats. I gazed at his body, losing myself again in how perfect he was, with a physique like a star quarterback.
He was right, though. I was far too tired from our, shall we say, physical expression of our grievances with each other to do much else. I wanted to stay in his bed all day, soaking up his scent and relaxing after we’d worked out our differences in the back of the SUV. After a few minutes, I decided I was not going to accomplish anything today. I had way too much to work through with this new development.
I grabbed my phone and privately reached out to my hair stylist, letting her know I couldn’t make it to the appointment. But I left my calendar alone. My uncle, and the rest of the company, didn’t need to know I was taking a day off to sleep in the enemy’s bed.
Soon, Liam returned carrying a tray with a cup of tea and a small selection of pastries. Without a word, he climbed into bed beside me, the mattress dipping slightly under his weight. I blinked in surprise, watching as he unfolded the tray’s legs and settled it between us. Then he picked up a pastry, offering it to me. I took it, still unsure what to make of his sudden gentleness. He must’ve caught the confusion in my expression, because he gave a casual shrug.
“I figure, in for a penny, in for a pound.” His words made me grin as I took a bite of the pastry, my eyes rolling back at the delicious taste of strawberry filling and sweet glaze.
“We definitely got the pound part in,” I replied as I chewed the flaky breakfast. Liam’s eyes went wide, then he quickly rolled me into him, wrapping his arms around my body as I gave a weak protest at being pulled into a cuddle position.
“We certainly did.” He said, breathing into my neck and getting a hit of my scent. “Not that it means we are on the same side or anything.” He added, and I nodded, taking another bite of the pastry.
“Of course not. You are, after all, blackmailing me.” I said sagely.
“And you are the woman who sabotaged my company, although I can admit that some of my assumptions might have been a bit overblown.” He countered, and I noticed a hint of concession in his voice. “Regardless, what we did was strictly a biological response to our urges, nothing more.” He said resolutely.
“Of course,” I said, my voice steady. “Nothing more, just sex. And we should definitely not do it, ever again.”
His breath fanned hot against my neck as he leaned in again, inhaling like he couldn’t stop himself - like my scent was something he craved deeper with every breath. If he kept doing that, it would only make him want it more. And now that I could feel his massive body pressing against me so perfectly, I knew that it would, in turn, make me want him more.
“Never again.” He agreed, his hands gently running along my skin.
I felt him get hard against my back, and despite our sex marathon just hours ago, I felt my body respond.
Crap.
We were going to do it again.
