Chapter 34
Chapter Thirty-Four
Audrey:My parents were here earlier today.
Liam:I thought they were going to Italy.
Audrey:They are, but postponed their trip to come. Mom wanted to fix our relationship.
Liam: Is it fixed?
Audrey:No, but we talked about it and we have a plan to start to heal.
Liam:Glad things are working out.
Audrey:They’re for me, how about you?
Liam:Mom agreed to help me with the bookstore. We’re interviewing store managers, cashiers, and other employees.
Audrey:Can the store afford them? I thought you said they were broke.
Liam:I’m injecting some cash into it. After all, this will be our children’s legacy one day.
Audrey:Whoa, buddy. That’s taking a million steps from the whole let’s start dating.
Liam:You’re right, but I couldn’t help but think about that the first day I saw how bad things were.
Audrey:Wow . . . children.
Liam:You don’t want to have any?
Audrey:I haven’t thought about it.
Liam:It’s just a thought you know, but I’ll be happy if it’s just the two of us.
Audrey:I think we concentrate on dating right now, what do you think?
Liam: I like that.
Audrey:So, will you be closing the store temporarily?
Liam:Yep, but I won’t do it until we have a real plan.
Audrey: Like?
Liam:Lily will be here tomorrow with her sister Zoe. She and her partner can do the work. He’s an architect who owns a construction company. She’s an interior designer who works mainly with retailers.
Audrey:Sounds like the perfect team.
Liam: Yep.
Audrey:How’s Grandma Cohen doing?
Liam:She’s doing well after her first treatment. Dad is hopeful.
Audrey: She’ll be fine.
Liam:I’m trying to stay positive too.
Audrey:What did she say about our engagement?
Liam:Oh, Dad doesn’t know and we all agreed to keep it that way. At least until Grandma is strong. It’s not like we’re going to break up tomorrow.
Audrey: Cocky. What if we don’t work out?
Liam:You mean lucky. I’m starting to date who I’m pretty sure is the love of my life. It’ll work out, obviously.
Audrey: You surprise me, Cohen.
Liam: How so?
Audrey:You’re pretty swoony, romantic . . . I could say the perfect boyfriend for me. Even when we’re not tying the knot.
Liam: Oh we will.
Audrey:I should get this ring back to you.
Liam:Take it as a promise ring.
Audrey: Promise?
Liam:Promise that I’m doing my damn best to make you fall madly in love with me.
Audrey:So far you’re doing great.
Liam:Glad to know it. Hey, can I call you later—when Max is asleep so we can have phone sex?
Audrey:Yeah. I wish he’d agree to stay at your place, but he insists that we need to bond.
Liam:I think there’s another issue with my house, I wish I knew what. I thought I was the problem, but nope.
Audrey:Hot neighbor he slept with and never called?
Liam: Nah.That’s like the entire population of the world and he doesn’t give a rat’s ass.
Audrey:We’ll figure it out one day. Talk to you soon.
