Are you sniffing me?
monty
I launch forward past Anderson just in time to catch Jac before she hits the ground. Her duffle isn’t so lucky, smacking the dirt drive and creating a plume of dirt.
Chuckling, I turn around, “So what are the odds she says yes? This doesn’t give me much hope.”
Luke reaches out, brushing the fly away hairs from her face. “I think she’ll be in. This was just a lot, and it’s been a long day. Maybe we should take her to her place.”
Grabbing the duffle from the pavement, Luke snags Jac’s keys to the old truck off the ground. The truck used to be his back in the day before college, but his mom must’ve loaned it to Jac.
He moves toward the passenger side and opens the door glancing back at me. I’m not ready to let her small frame out of my arms just yet though. It’s like he sees right through me when he says, “Come on you big puppy, you can hold her while I drive. Taylor and Anderson, you guys follow us.”
Jac doesn’t even stir as I hold her, it’s a five minute drive, but I keep her close letting my purr rumble in my chest, hoping it soothes her as she rests in my arms. It’s just soft enough that I don’t think Luke can hear it, which is good as I’ve never done this for anyone.
Sure we’ve dated others but I never used my purr to soothe them.
I saw my parents soothe with it, and every moment felt so precious and sacred.
Like it was only meant for mates. I can only imagine the shit he’d give me if he heard me.
I never take my eyes off her delicate features, her cute little button nose that flows perfectly into plush, rose colored lips. Her long dark locks drape over my arm, bangs lightly falling across her forehead.
Everything about her is small and delicate, well compared to me. She’s short and has just perfect curves on her body. I just know she’s going to be so pretty presenting for her Alphas.
The way I just want to douse myself in her sweet scent should tell me all that I need to know.
This Omega is most certainly my scent match.
I really didn’t believe it would happen, my parents never were that lucky, but they always loved each other.
It just wasn’t that instant connection, not like Taylor’s parents.
Mr. and Mrs. Williamson were scent matches that didn’t even blink when it came to forming a pack. Their intense whirlwind romance was everything everyone always talked about, and probably still does. I know it’s all Taylor has ever wanted for us, even if he said he was okay without it.
I look up as Luke turns the truck into the gravel driveway that leads to his parents' small farm.
Deja vu hits as we drive up the road, the fields stretch out around us as we settle further into the small mountain valley just outside of town.
It never ceases to amaze me how truly stunning this area is.
Luke’s family farm is nestled along the base of the large mountain at the far end of town.
The peak rises above everything around with sharp beauty.
Snow still sits along the highest points of the mountain and its surrounding peaks.
The trees and fields are deep greens, with hints of yellow poking through as colors start to try and change for fall.
Fences along the road hold cattle in, black and brown masses dot the fields as we drive along the road.
As we drive, we pass Bev’s house where she and Clay lived for years.
Where we all spent many evenings for meals in our childhood.
There’s a barn tucked further back on the drive behind the house, it was really our hideaway.
It used to be our ‘man cave’ when we were kids.
It’s had some much-needed TLC since then, the old weathered exterior now gleams with pine trim and black paint.
Pulling up, I see how the eight stalls running along the length of the building now have pens attached, allowing the various animals outside. Fuck, I missed this place.
The truck comes to a stop near the large entrance leading to the stalls.
Luke hops out coming to my side to open the truck door, I scoot out carefully to not disturb the passed out Omega in my arms. I catch Luke’s eyes trailing after her with a sense of longing and something else that he quickly disguises when he sees me watching him.
Smirking, I walk behind him as he heads over to where the other two hulking men linger near the barn, attention solely focused on Jac.
Stepping through a smaller side entry, I’m greeted by a room that is blocked off from the rest of the barn and smells like the most amazing cinnamon roll bakery.
It has a set of wide stairs that lead to the upper level, the paint has been redone since our high school days, giving the whole space a much cozier feeling.
Looking around, I spot some shoe cubbies at the base of the stairs, so I slip my sneakers off before heading up.
As I make it to the top, I realize that maybe I’m out of my depth with this Omega.
I have walked into a witchy gothic cottage and not the gaming loft I once knew.
There’s a plush dark grey sectional facing the large glass windows looking out to the stunning pond I almost forgot was here.
The space is soaked in Jac’s sugary scent, my instincts are riding me hard, telling me to cover myself in this scent and never let another Omega near me.
I’ve never been this obsessed with an Omega’s scent. Shit, I am down bad.
Behind that is the spacious kitchen and dining area, black cabinets line one wall—the windowed doors allowing me to see all the mismatched dishes.
There's a small doorway on the far side. I’m guessing based on how her scent drifts heavily from that direction that her nest lies beyond the threshold.
The wall splitting the loft up is covered in a smattering of different gothic art prints, golden frames, mirrors, and has a tv worked in seamlessly with the flow.
It’s painted a deep forest green color making all the black and gold accents pop against it.
While I want to investigate what is likely her nest in more depth, my Alpha instincts tell me that I shouldn’t enter here without her permission, and who am I to disagree?
So instead, I make my way over to the couch and sit down with Jac still in my arms. I shift her so her body lays sideways with her head in my lap, on a pillow of course.
Once her and I are settled, the guys drop to sit beside us. At some point, Luke snagged a bottle of water from the fridge and set it by me. It’s only a minute or two before Jac’s eyes flutter open and she lets out the cutest little groan as she gets her bearings.
“Don’t sit up too fast,” I whisper as I brush her dark bangs out of her face. “You’ve been out for about fifteen minutes.”
“Ugh. Did I really pass out? Or am I dreaming that there are four extremely attractive men sitting in my apartment?” Jac grumbles as she slowly sits up, reaching for the water.
I hold it out to her with one hand, my other laying along her back to steady her as she gets her bearings.
She doesn’t make any move to get off my lap as she sips the water slowly, her body is relaxed as she watches the four of us in her space.
A space she clearly created for herself and no one else.
Yet somehow in these last few minutes it’s felt more like home than my own ever did.
“Runaway, you really passed out.” Anderson looks worried, but his voice portrays utter confidence.
Jac sits a little straighter and looks around, finally getting her bearings.
Where I expected anger or nervousness to find us all in her space; I find the opposite.
Lust, curiosity, and something like peace washes over her as she takes a deep breath.
It’s like she’s trying to take us all in and as she does her body melts into my side.
I can’t stop my own movement as I drop my head, pressing my nose to her hair.
“Are you… sniffing me?” Jac questions, but doesn’t make an effort to remove herself from me.
“I can’t help it, your scent is driving my Alpha instincts wild. I’m sorry Sugar.” I slowly pull my head away and try to scoot her off my lap, but her hand on my thigh stops me.
“No, it’s… I think I like having you close. You feel… Right.” She whispers that last word softly, looking up at me through her eyelashes with a slight blush tinging her cheeks.
My Alpha preens from her words.
Jac straightens herself after the admission and looks back towards Anderson, catching us all off guard as she dives right into things.
“I think I must have misheard you. There’s no way you are asking your brother’s runaway fiancé to be in your pack.” I chuckle a little as she addresses Anderson, earning a side glare from the dainty Omega in my lap.
Oh yeah. She’s definitely ours.
