Chapter 37
Kane
Iknow Timber’s talking to Marilyn, but I don’t know how bad it is. Not that I’m hovering or anything. It’s absolutely a coincidence that I’m pacing outside the administration building, but maybe hoping to catch Timber and apologize for the umpteenth time.
It doesn’t matter how much effort I put into getting my mates together; the universe is working against me.
After meeting Luke, I thought Timber might mellow out, but the interview sent me straight back to square one.
Ollie is barely replying to my messages as well.
So, I have to find another new way to get them to forgive me and make it look like I’ve learned my lesson and stopped ‘influencing’ them, as I like to call it.
I’m rehearsing what to say to Timber when he suddenly shoots through the front doors and sprints off with a look so deathly serious that I flinch.
Before I have time to react, he’s already disappearing down the road, and I’m watching him go, completely stunned.
By the time I race after him, he’s nearly reached the edge of the Arena parking lot. Thankfully, my mate is wonderfully tall and wearing bright red, so I can’t lose him.
Fear beats in me as I pick up speed, frustrated by how big the gap between us is. We’re both fast, but I’m lighter. Plus, he keeps zigzagging, and it looks like he’s distracted by something.
It doesn’t take a genius to figure out something is going on. And my worry hikes the more Timber runs.
Sure, we all worked out together in the gym, but he’s too frantic, and I’m panicking, because I suspect there’s only one person who could make him act like this.
And then he suddenly stops in front of a parking garage, and I hurl myself down the street to catch up.
Considering how much Ollie loved it when I snuck up behind her during her run, I hold back and slow down to casually approach him.
Until he bolts again, like our favorite omega. I lose him in two minutes, and it’s just luck that I choose to run to the top floor and work my way down. And the only reason I find him quickly is that bright car of his.
When I finally see him, he’s leaning against the passenger door, suddenly sliding down behind it.
My heart clenches as I hurl myself toward him, because if he gets hurt before me and Ollie have the chance to apologize…
I slam my hand against the bonnet as I soar around the front of the car, my breath catching as I find Timber slumped over, his knees up, his head down, staring at something between his legs.
“Are you okay? What’s going on?” I ask hurriedly.
He tilts his head back, and I flinch at the haze in his eyes. He’s panting, his expression desperate, and his hands shaking as he clutches his phone. The tension beating off him is so thick that I can taste it in his scent.
Caution bolts through me as a low growl rumbles from him. With the rage in his manic gaze, it feels like I’m looking at a stranger.
As soon as my gaze lands on the screen barely visible between his thick fingers, shock beats away my concern.
“Oh my God, are you watching porn?”
His face scrunches and, as I look closer at the screen, I gape as I realize who’s there.
I dart forward in shock because how the hell does he have a video of Ollie like that? And why am I not involved?
I’m leaning right over him as I scan the screen to figure out where she is. And then I see the seconds ticking away on the video. Ones that match the time at the top of Timber’s phone.
“Hey, baby, is this real time? What the fuck is going on? Where is she?”
I make the mistake of leaning too close. As I turn my head, I’m only inches from his. His scent burns my nose with its bitterness as he growls.
“I just want to look, Timber. She’s my mate, too,” I say softly.
Which is absolutely the wrong thing to say to a giant alpha in rut.
“Shit,” I hiss as his lips draw over his teeth and a snarl rips from him.
I throw myself back as he swings his fist, thumping against the car next to us. Thank God he’s sitting, so I avoid his punch as he drags himself to his feet.
“I’m not your competition!” I shout as another growl rumbles from him, but it won’t work.
If we’d already bonded, his alpha side wouldn’t see me as an enemy. But since we haven’t exactly resolved things, it makes sense that his first instinct is to tear my head off so I can’t get to his omega.
When we’re out on the ice, we’re so padded up that a punch has half the damage, but this is no joke.
Timber hurls himself at me with a snarl, and I quickly spin away as he crashes into the car behind me. The small thing rocks, and he’d have pushed it over if he weren’t so focused on taking me out.
I use it as a chance.
As he crashes back and forth between the two cars, I drop to the ground, swiping up his car keys. In seconds, I have it unlocked, ripping open the passenger door to hover in front of it.
“Hey, baby. Are we going to go and see Ollie?” I ask with a grin. “Do you want to see our omega?”
The way I talk would have a dog wagging its tail. Instead, he roars as he flies toward me.
I dodge at just the right moment to knock him into the passenger seat. A firm kick to his tight ass gets his legs in there so I can slam the door behind him.
The giant green thing lights up as I lock it, trapping my frothing mate inside.
He still has his phone clamped between meaty fingers as he bangs his fist against the window. I know he’s yelling at me to let him out, but we need to get to Ollie ASAP, and I can’t let his rut stop us.
“Fuck,” I mutter as the car shakes. It’s like I’ve trapped a rabid werewolf, as if nothing will stop him getting to me.
It’s no secret that Timber never takes time off for his ruts. From everything the other guys have let slip, he literally just spends one night a year getting it all out of his system. He never releases the pressure that naturally builds up in other alphas when their omega goes into heat.
And now he’s a sexy monster trying to get at me through the glass.
A wave of pleasure burns through me as he scratches his nails down it, his breath misting the window as he snarls.
If he’s working this hard to get to me, what will he be like when he sees Ollie?
I run around to the driver’s side door, sucking in a breath.
I thought our first heat and rut together would be way more romantic, though I still include him tearing my throat out in my fantasies for a touch of realism.
But we’ve been through so much together, so what’s a little gouging between friends?
I harden my jaw as I rip open the door and throw my palm out, slamming him right in the chest as he leaps for me.
“You fucker!” he roars as he flies back onto the passenger seat.
I scrabble at the door handle to stop myself tumbling back onto the concrete floor.
“Why are you so big?” I growl as I jump into the driver’s seat.
He chokes, but he recovers too quickly, and he lunges for me again.
“Timber!” I yell as he grabs my arm, digging his fingers right in.
Even though I’m pretty sure he’ll fuck me rather than kill me, the odds aren’t high enough for me to take that bet.
I twist in my seat, my back slapping off my door as I snatch the phone from his hand before whacking his chest again, but it’s like hitting a brick wall.
It’s the only thing that’s distracted him so far.
Ollie is still writhing on the screen, but with Timber thrashing around, I can’t stop to admire her.
“Sorry, sweetness,” I murmur as I quickly enlarge the screen. She’s so insanely sexy that I need to avoid looking to keep my head on straight. I’ve always been right there in the action with her, so being able to watch her like this is damn precious.
Her ass bobs, and her face stays buried in a blanket as she draws the dildo from herself with aching slowness. The screen quality isn’t good enough to see her slick, but from the way she shudders, I’m sure I already know what sounds she’s making.
I don’t get more than a second before I shove it straight into Timber’s face. It’s so close there’s no way he can miss her.
He chokes out the same way I did when I first saw it.
“You piece of shit,” he growls. But I wiggle the phone, catching his attention again, and his eyes completely glaze over; he’s lost.
Like a dog with a ball, he’s instantly drawn to it, growling away as she cries silently on the screen.
If I were an honorable man, I would have probably put the phone on the dashboard and left him to it.
Instead, I zoom it around in a figure of eight, watching him stare at it wide-eyed. I love how he follows it, lifting his head in wide circles as I tease him.
I want to keep playing with him, but it seriously isn’t fair. I know he wouldn’t do that to me if I went into rut.
I got an idea of what’s going on when I saw the app, but I’m too focused on dealing with Timber’s rut to address the fact he’s been watching her through his home cameras.
As soon as he’s out of it, we’re sitting down and talking to Ollie. Him going wild on her because she lied about her gender when she had never cared about it is a different kind of violation to watching her like this.
I can’t say for sure she doesn’t know she’s being watched, but she isn’t acting like someone who knows she’s on camera.
And after all the times he’s yelled at me for my crap…
Holding it at his eye level, I lean forward to grab his seatbelt, and click it in. I quickly slap my belt on before he can react as well.
I hope the video will hold his attention while I fiddle with the sat-nav. I groan in relief as I see he has it automatically set to Home. I told Ollie I’d get the address one way or another.
The second it pipes up with, “Calculating Route,” another snarl rips from my favorite hockey player, and the car rocks as he snarls.
“Timber, come on! This is seriously hot, but just hold it in until we get back to yours,” I snap as he thrashes in the seat beside me.
He grabs his belt, tearing at it as he punches the dashboard and slams his fist against the window again.
