Sable

“Why is this the only good bar in town?” I grumble, glancing over at Plum, who snorts. After Rhian left, I texted her that I needed a distraction tonight. I haven’t told her why yet, and I think this is my punishment.

Despite my best efforts to convince her we should stay in, she managed to drag me out the door. The best thing about living in a small town is how close your bestie lives. The bad thing? There’s only one place to go for a night out that isn’t ninety percent old people.

“Well, let’s see, the other bars in town are filled with the catty gossipers and grumpy boomers.

Taron loves this bar, and takes good care of it, so anyone who fucks around finds out.

He’ll kick anyone out if they can’t behave.

Doesn’t care who they are.” Plum leads me to the front door, but at the last second, I chicken out.

Today has been eventful enough already, with Taron, Colter, and Rhian showing up at the shop.

Do I really want to play with fire and tempt fate?

“Maybe this was a bad idea…” I step back, ready to flee, but Plum has a death grip on my bicep.

“I don’t think so, Sugarbat. We’re going in. Do you know how long it’s been since I’ve had a night like this? Six years,” she says, not letting me answer. “This town has been so dull without you, and I’m not letting you hide. Be brave!” she teases.

“Fine, but this is a bad idea,” I huff, straightening the black crop top. The tight black high-waist jeans are comfortable, at least, and I wore my favorite black boots. Thankfully, omegas heal pretty fast, so my legs feel fine.

Plum did my hair, leaving it down in long green waves, and my makeup looks amazing. I feel better, after my little balcony cry before Plum arrived.

“Oh hardly. Scared you’ll catch a dick?” She teases, bumping me with her shoulder.

Once we’re inside, drinks in hand and heading onto the dance floor, I break the news I’ve been holding in for the last hour since she arrived at my place after several songs and two more drinks each.

“I have a date with Rhian tomorrow night,” I shout over the music, as Plum and I dance, drinks in hand.

It’s so hot in here, saturated in the scents of alphas and omegas, all trying to have a good time.

It’s nearly overwhelming, but there must be a scent dampener in the air system because the worst of it seems like it's being held at bay.

“I don’t think it’s raining…” Plum frowns, shaking her head at me. I snort with a laugh at how badly she misheard me.

“No–” I shake my head, but she’s so lost in the music she probably won’t hear me anyway. “Bathroom,” I shout, waving my hand in the general direction. She simply nods, closing her eyes as she moves with the beat. I set my empty glass down on a table as I head toward the bathroom.

The bar is nice, but with it decorated for Halloween, it’s got a different vibe than I had expected, and I really like it.

Taron clearly invested a good amount of money on decorations, and it paid off.

You can tell his staff are enjoying it, since they’re all in costumes, bright smiles seeming to light up their faces easily.

There’s an alpha behind the bar with her long black hair in pigtail braids, and a Wednesday Adams dress on. The beta working the bar with her is dressed as a sexy IT clown. He pulls it off, somehow.

I don’t really need to use the bathroom, but I was starting to feel suffocated by the crowd dancing around me. Plum was completely unfazed. I’ll fix my makeup while I'm there and just freshen up or something.

“Oh fuck,” I murmur as I turn the corner into a hall I thought led to the bathrooms. The scent hits me so strongly, I stagger back a couple of steps before the sight before me fully registers in my mind.

“Is this what you wanted, Rhian? For me to snap…” Taron hisses, pinning my omega friend to the wall.

The hallway is dark enough that they don’t notice me, but I can see the two men very clearly from here.

Sweet fuck, they’re so hot… I thought maybe Rhian liked Colter, after the Trunk-or-Treat.

But my guess about there being something between him and Taron as well was spot on.

The sight of them pressed together would be enough on its own to trigger my instincts, but their scents? Autumn leaves and warm honeyed hay? Sweet chicken nuggets… slick pools in my thong, and I shift, pressing my knees together as a whimper breaks free. Thank fuck for the loud music.

“Yes,” Rhian growls, holding onto Taron’s wrists with white knuckles. The alpha doesn’t seem to mind one bit as he presses his nose to the omega's throat and breathes in his scent.

“Taking her for a date? You like it when I’m jealous, hmm?” Taron bites Rhian’s neck hard enough to force a whine from the omega, and I slowly take a step back. This is an intimate moment, and I’m an intruder. A very turned on intruder that really wants to join them.

“Fuck, her scent…” Rhian moans, his hips bucking forward into Taron, making the alpha groan.

“Is that what you want, omega? Sable pressed between us as I fuck her on to you?” Taron taunts, and the sound of my name on his lips draws another whine from between mine. My knees shake, my steps faltering when their whispered fantasy crashes through me.

They’re talking about me?

“Fuck yes,” Rhian moans, his voice a fucking siren call. I steady myself against the wall, desperately trying to fight my desire to shove myself between them the way Taron described.

“Should I tie you up so you can’t touch…” Taron grins, tightening his hold on Rhian’s throat. “I’ll fuck her sweet pussy as she sits her perfect ass on your slutty omega cock. Will you come with her ass sliding over your dick, Rhian?”

Rhian shakes violently against the wall, one hand dropping to the front of his jeans, but Taron yanks it away, pinning it against the wall above the omega’s head. I watch as my scent hits them, and both men breathe in deeply. Taron turns his head slowly, and our eyes lock.

I’m frozen in place as he grins at me. Oh fuck, I’ve been caught.

“We have an audience, little slut,” Taron growls, holding me captive in his gaze. “Sable can’t take her eyes off of you, can you, baby?”

I’m not usually stunned speechless, but at this moment, all thoughts have evacuated my brain. Shit, maybe I really am close to my heat.

I do the only logical thing I can think of, and run for it. Setting my sights on the first door I see, I make my escape.

Not today, dirty talking alpha…not today.

Taron

“Fuck,” Rhian groans, pushing me back a step. “I–I have to go,” he murmurs, the apple cider of his scent turning sour with rejection.

“Hey, stop that,” I bark, only using a hint of my dominance as I grip his chin, forcing him to meet my eyes, refusing to let him run away too. “She ran because she’s scared, not because she doesn’t want you. Just give her time.”

“I told her I was single… I asked her on a date after she spent the night curled up in my arms. Fuck, she probably thinks I’m a goddamn liar,” he groans, not meeting my eyes.

“You are single,” I frown. He is, right? The fuck did I miss? Jealousy burns in my chest for real this time, as I imagine him with an alpha that isn’t me.

“This doesn’t look single,” he argues, gesturing between the two of us. Oh, that. Right. He meant the way I thrusted against his cock.

“This is different,” I smirk, but Rhian narrows his eyes at me.

“Right,” he scoffs, shaking his head, pushing me back with more force now.

“Hey,” I growl more forcefully, pinning him once again because I might not be a genius, but I’m not that fucking stupid.

“What were you supposed to tell her, Rhian? That her ex sometimes stalks you in his bar?” And other places, but he doesn’t need to know about that.

“That he likes pinning you against walls and whispering dirty things in your ear, but you’ve never even kissed each other?

This, whatever it is, is complicated, sure.

It’s something, but…” I trail off as he relaxes against the wall, his scent softening as he threads both his hands into my hair.

“But her big bad alpha ex is just as scared as she is?” Rhian murmurs, and for a long moment, I want to kiss him.

Fuck, do I want to kiss him, but I don’t.

I can’t. “I get it now. You like the chase, but you’re the one that needs to be caught.

” Fuck, his smile is dazzling. “Game on, alpha.” Rhian leans in slowly, and just when I think he might kiss me, he nuzzles his nose against mine, respecting my unspoken boundary.

“Jesus, Rhian.” I sigh, eyes falling shut. I don’t deserve this perfect man. Sable does though. And I might not deserve either of them, but I don’t know how the fuck I’m supposed to resist either of them. Not when Rhian says shit like that.

“Follow her, Taron. She locked herself in a fucking supply room.” He chuckles.

“I’m going to court her, but I think she needs you more right now.

I’ll be back, alpha.” He slips away from me with a soft pat against my hard cock, and I watch him go, half dazed, and seriously turned on. Diabolical omega.

I’m not a clever man, but I know how to follow directions.

When I finally get my head screwed back on, raging hard on still firmly in place, I walk over to the room Sable fled to and try the handle.

Huh, not locked. Silly girl. Grinning, I pull the ghost face mask out of my back pocket and pull it on over my head.

I’m the one who wanted the employees to dress up every day this month, so it's only fair that I partake as well.

Didn’t anticipate using it for this, but the opportunity has laid itself at my feet, and I can’t resist. I am not good at denying myself the things I desperately want.

Her scent envelops me as I push the door open, temporarily blinded by the darkness as I step in and shut the door behind me. Locking it.
